Chapter 196 - TOA 196: Medea's Examination

"What?! Morpheus summoned Medea?" Olga Marie's eyes widened slightly upon hearing the news.

She took a deep breath, frowning, but said nothing more.

Even though she'd known he would summon Medea eventually, and thought she'd prepared herself, seeing him actually bring forth this legendary witch made her feel deeply uncomfortable.

It was like something that was almost hers had suddenly been snatched away by someone else.

After dismissing the staff, Olga Marie sat in silence for a moment, muttering to herself, "I'm not jealous!"

She kept denying it, but this state only made her more uneasy.

If it wasn't jealousy, why emphasize it?

It felt like protesting too much.

So, Olga Marie shifted her thoughts elsewhere.

"Really, couldn't he take it slower? Couldn't he summon other Servants first? Like someone more powerful... that Indian Servant looked impressive; he could summon him first! Or Artoria or Mordred would work too. Why start with Medea?"

She grumbled under her breath, but no one else heard; it was just for her own ears.

...

"You tried summoning the destroyer god Shiva?!" After hearing Morpheus recount recent events, Medea stared at him with wide eyes, filled with reproach and worry.

She immediately stepped forward, pinning Morpheus to the bed and unceremoniously starting to strip off his clothes.

Morpheus quickly grabbed her hands, laughing. "What are you doing? Assaulting me? That desperate?"

Medea rolled her eyes. "I just want to check if your body's okay. If there's a problem, wouldn't that ruin my happiness for the rest of my life?"

Then, she pressed down more assertively, breaking free of his grip and skillfully removing his clothes until he was bare.

She examined his body carefully, not just with her eyes but using magical power as well. After confirming several times, Medea finally sighed in relief.

"Good, no issues."

But then she frowned again.

"However, the toxins in your body are built up. For a short time, you'll need the archangels' power to help. Without it, the toxins will spread instantly. They won't increase and will keep decreasing, but they'll still impair your movement."

Morpheus smiled faintly. "I know what you mean. During Rayshift, I have to retract the four archangels, and in that period, the toxins will spread, possibly robbing me of mobility. You're worried about that, right?"

Medea nodded. "But I have a way to ensure you won't be immobilized after transfer."

Morpheus chuckled. "I'm all ears."

"Just bring this great witch along. I've studied your magic too and know some techniques. I can borrow your necklace to call upon the archangels' power and suppress it for you." Medea smiled, extending her right finger to gently lift Morpheus's chin, her expression alluring. "Plus, I'm quite capable and can handle plenty of troubles for you. How about it?"

With that, she leaned over him and kissed him deeply, her hair cascading down like a waterfall, enveloping him. Her kiss was fervent and passionate.

But it was just a kiss... for now, with the toxins not fully cleared and still abundant, other activities were off the table.

This made Medea pout in dissatisfaction, slapping his chest.

"Hurry up and detox!"

"Yes, ma'am, Your Highness." Morpheus grinned.

Medea was, indeed, a princess.

...

In the cafeteria, Ritsuka, Mash, and the loli Jack... who stuck to Ritsuka like glue... were eating together. But while loli Jack focused on devouring her food, Ritsuka and Mash's attention was on another table.

There sat two women, facing each other: Medea and Jeanne Alter, both Morpheus's Servants.

Morpheus himself was sitting with them, also eating.

"Don't you need to go over?" Ritsuka asked quietly.

"They want to chat privately, without me hearing. It's fine... if anything happens, I can stop it right away." Morpheus smiled, patting Ritsuka's shoulder. "Relax, they won't fight."

Ritsuka smiled back, but her focus remained on that table. She wished her hearing was sharper so she could catch what they were saying.

Unfortunately, her hearing was just average; she couldn't pick up conversations from that far.

She started considering drawing out Ame no Murakumo a bit to subtly enhance her body.

That way, she'd definitely hear their exchange.

"You're the first Servant Morpheus summoned?" Medea looked at Jeanne Alter curiously. She could tell this woman was powerful... definitely top-tier among Servants.

What puzzled her was that Morpheus's first summon had been this one. She'd assumed, based on closeness, it would be her or Atalanta.

"That's me. And you are..." Jeanne Alter eyed Medea with confusion, but upon hearing her introduction, recognition dawned. "Oh, so you're Medea."

"You've heard of me?" Medea watched her, wondering if it was from epic legends or elsewhere.

"Your relationship with Morpheus isn't a secret in Chaldea. Besides you, there's the moon goddess Artemis and the huntress Atalanta... everyone here knows." Jeanne Alter said it casually, not shying away from matters between men and women; she even seemed interested. "How does it feel? Care to share?"

Faced with this attitude, Medea grew more curious. "When you first met Morpheus, nothing like that happened?"

Jeanne Alter shook her head. "No, back then we were enemies. He defeated me, and I went to the Throne of Heroes until he summoned me. This is my first proper summoning from there."

At the first Singularity, it wasn't a true summoning; she'd just been born, only to be slotted into the Throne right after.

Thinking back, it felt like she'd been fast-tracked through connections.

"So, you were summoned randomly?" Medea asked. "His first summon, and he got you by chance? Even if that was your first real entry to the Throne, you shouldn't have been strong enough for him to pull you randomly...

"With the Grail and Servant summoning mechanics, without any catalysts, those closest to the summoner are easiest to call. By that logic, it should have been me or Atalanta."

Medea didn't mention Artemis; she knew Artemis couldn't be summoned normally.

Unless exploiting loopholes to lower her rank temporarily, like in the previous Singularity.

But that couldn't work every time.

Now understanding the confusion, Jeanne Alter's lips curved smugly. "Because my bond with Morpheus is indeed very close."

"Very close?" Medea narrowed her eyes.

From afar, Ritsuka and Mash sensed danger in the air.

As for Morpheus, he kept eating cheerfully, unbothered.

"Yes, very close... probably uniquely so in the world!" Jeanne Alter continued, her words making Medea's expression turn icy. But then Medea suddenly laughed. "Uniquely close? Don't tell me you're saying you're his child?"

Jeanne Alter's face froze. "How did you come up with that?!"

"Well, close relationships like wife are already taken. It can't be you're his mother, so I can only guess child... or something else? Like master-servant? Possession?"

Trying various ideas, Medea's aura lost its menace, becoming relaxed instead.

Faced with these baseless guesses, Jeanne Alter's plan to tease crumbled. She relented: "Not that kind. Rather, he bore all my burdens."

"Bore all your burdens?" Medea blinked, not angry. As a magus and magician, she instantly sensed the mystical implication. "In a magical sense?!"

"Worth of the legendary witch... you spotted the key right away?" Jeanne Alter praised sincerely, no longer hiding, and explained what happened.

After recounting the events of her birth, and how Morpheus emulated the Son of God bearing original sin, Medea listened without interrupting, silent for a long while before sighing softly.

"Then you won't have issues anymore, right? Since the Son of God bore your sins, you're like anyone else... with a normal life ahead."

Medea smiled kindly, showing no hostility.

For such a pitiable person, she had no intention of conflict.

She also understood why Morpheus's first summon was Jeanne Alter... this unique bond was indeed one-of-a-kind, the most special connection.

This profound mystical link made summoning Jeanne Alter in a non-targeted first call perfectly natural.

They exchanged more, and upon hearing Morpheus's feats in subsequent Singularities, Medea glared at him, leaving him puzzled. He scratched his cheek, wondering what he'd done.

But he couldn't know yet; that was still girls' space, no entry for him.

"He's really something, rushing to solve everything alone... at least leave some for others." Medea said helplessly. "Similar to his past: if he can fix it immediately, he won't let it linger for practice. I still can't understand why he challenged Typhon."

"Maybe to gain Anti-Dragon traits?" Jeanne Alter suggested.

"Anti-Dragon from targeting Typhon is powerful, but how often do you encounter dragons in a lifetime?" Medea sighed. "And Typhon was so dangerous... I thought he'd really gotten hurt. Luckily, he and Artemis were fine..."

At that, Medea's eyes lit up.

"Right, maybe we can use the Grail to summon that guy!"

"Who?"

Medea smiled slightly. "Typhon died, and though his rank equals a god's... immensely powerful... his death allows direct summoning potential. After all, Typhon is surely recorded in the Root.

"A normal Servant circle might have issues, summoning only a weakened copy at best. But with proper modifications, we might call forth Typhon's Heroic Spirit true form!"

"Typhon's true Heroic Spirit?!" Jeanne Alter's eyes widened at the excited, eager Medea. She realized they matched well: one summoning god true forms, the other eyeing Typhon, father of monsters.

If they summoned Typhon's true form, its power might clash head-on with Goetia... even with Goetia's amassed strength, it could pressure him greatly.

After all, this was Typhon, who gave even Zeus headaches, sealed away and nearly counter-killed!

No, she couldn't let her dwell on this, lest it cause big issues like Morpheus's Shiva summon!

If she summoned wrong, pulling Typhon from Morpheus's world instead... that'd be disastrous!

Thinking this, Jeanne Alter decided to divert.

So, she smiled again: "You still haven't answered my question. How does it feel doing those things with Morpheus?"

The question indeed made Medea forget Typhon summoning temporarily. Her cheeks flushed slightly, yet she seemed thrilled.

"It feels amazing... the first time differs from later ones. Hard to describe, but definitely addictive! I think you should try it!"
