Chapter 118 - DG 118: Carnival?

[Enkidu].

A divine weapon from the Mesopotamian plains, essentially a [Wedge] connecting gods and humans.

In most cases, he would answer the Holy Grail's summons as a Lancer.

Not because he's inherently suited to the Lancer class, but because he is a spear. At his core, he's not human but a Noble Phantasm given life.

The type of Noble Phantasm determines the class of manifestation... makes sense, right?

But this Holy Grail War seemed a bit different.

Enkidu, summoned as an Assassin, no longer represented the [friend] uniquely acknowledged by the King of Heroes Gilgamesh. Instead, he was the mythical weapon crafted by the gods solely for [slaying kings].

... His form at the moment of creation.

In this state, he knew of Gilgamesh's existence and was aware that he would one day become friends with that excessively dramatic king... but that had nothing to do with the current him.

"Knowing" And "understanding" Are entirely different things, not to be confused.

And Gilgamesh? Did he know this?

Of course.

As the only friend he ever acknowledged, a single glance at Enkidu told him exactly what state this divine weapon was in.

But he didn't care.

In fact, he was somewhat delighted.

"Yes, that's it."

"That look."

"The look of wanting to kill me."

"Hahaha, who'd have thought I'd see such a gaze on your face again!"

Gilgamesh laughed with glee... he was thoroughly enjoying himself.

There's always justice to uphold.

There's always grudges to settle.

There's always unfulfilled wishes to realize.

... This is the Holy Grail War, a stage crafted for [heroes].

"What a spectacle... "

In the ruined courtyard, the red-haired king standing atop his ox-drawn chariot gazed at the dragon's breath descending from the sky. Then at the king wielding a pillar of light, fiercely clashing with the dragon... he marveled at the hidden talents of the Holy Grail War.

But the fervor in his heart wasn't diminished by this terrifying power.

Quite the opposite.

The enemy's strength opened his eyes... and made his heartbeat pound even stronger.

"Emperor of Rome, what do you think?"

He turned his gaze to the rose-pink-clad Emperor ahead.

Nero was conflicted.

She glanced at the battlefield of man and dragon, then at the clash between the king and the king-slayer... she wanted to join in but found no opening. Yet simply standing by and watching left her unsatisfied.

She was Nero! An Emperor! The protagonist!

"It feels like I'm being sidelined, umu!"

"No, no, this won't do! My wish is to compete with heroes from different eras... I can't let them fight among themselves!"

As she spoke, the Roman Emperor glanced at the little Saint beside her, pale-faced, unsure if from fear or anger.

The little Saint caught her look.

In that moment, Jeanne Lily understood Nero's intent: Should they activate the "final plan"?

"There's no other choice…"

The little Saint sighed, as it was a wild, even "absurd" idea.

Designed with the friendly input of Nero, the infamous tyrant and fallen emperor.

But now, watching the white dragon locked in fierce combat with Artoria, its shockwaves shattering several buildings, the little Saint knew this war couldn't continue like this.

"I don't know what'll happen…"

"But… Lord, have mercy!"

The little Saint placed her right hand on Tohsaka Sakura's shoulder.

At the same time, Nero radiated a dazzling golden light.

"Let's make this battle official, Saber!"

"No problem, leave it to me!"

At the "command." Nero's face lit up with an excited smile.

She raised her deep crimson greatsword, and countless rose petals scattered outward from her, covering all of Fuyuki City in an instant.

"My name is Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus."

"Now, in the name of the Emperor, I declare to the world."

"Heroes, sheath your weapons for now."

"For here lies a grander battlefield!"

"Noble Phantasm, deploy... "

"[Open the curtains, Nero Fest]!"

[Nero Fest].

A festival founded by the Roman Emperor Nero, originally intended to showcase Greek culture to the Romans and celebrate a golden age.

Held every five years, it occurred twice. During these events, Nero, as Roman Emperor, personally participated multiple times. Not only did she win singing and oratory contests with her "talents." but she also competed in numerous sports, earning over a thousand awards at Greece's four major games.

Fair enough, right?

Now, summoned by the Holy Grail, the Emperor once again had the idea to "hold another Nero Fest."

Of course, her power and will alone couldn't achieve this... manifesting her [Golden Theater] was already a remarkable feat.

But now, with the little Saint's help, this impossible dream became reality.

"A Reality Marble?"

"No, this goes beyond a mere Reality Marble."

A Magus hiding in the shadows stared at the rapidly transforming surroundings with a look of disbelief.

The quiet, peaceful Shinto was gone.

In its place stood majestic Roman architecture... white marble pillars, wide roads, and grand triumphal arches.

And, most crucially, the cheers of tens of thousands of Romans.

"Emperor, Emperor, Emperor, Emperor... "

The cheering crowd wasn't an illusion.

Fuyuki's residents, upon entering [Nero Fest], transformed into Romans, joining the revelry.

And on the high platform, at the center of all attention...

The Emperor in her rose-pink gown smiled broadly...

"Dear subjects."

"Welcome to my Rome!"
