Among the four great families, the one that stood to suffer the greatest loss from the division of the Empire was none other than the Ambrose Family.
The other three families had foundations that could survive even if the Empire was divided. The Halcrest Family was known for its healing abilities, while the Cravik Family was famous for its swordsmen. The Devine Family had a strong foundation in magic and magical research. Their skills were valuable in almost every region, so even if the Empire was split, they could rebuild their influence under a different ruler.
Ambrose was different.
The greatest strength of the Ambrose Family was its financial capital. Their influence had been built through businesses, trade routes, banks, merchants and countless other deals spread throughout the Empire. In fact, the other three families depended heavily on Ambrose for many of their businesses and secret dealings.
If the Empire was divided, those connections would be broken.
