The renovation came together in stages, each one building on the last, the whole thing growing from a set of principles Noah had been developing for years into something that could actually be built and tested.
He started with the foundation.
Every function he had in mind needed power to run, and the scale of what he was building meant the power requirements were not small. The solution was a Magic Power Collection Device built around an ultra-large Magic Crystal that he had spent considerable time modifying. The modification changed what the crystal did at a fundamental level. Instead of simply storing magic power that was placed into it, it drew from the environment continuously, pulling magical energy from the air and the earth across a wide collection radius, accumulating it passively without anyone needing to feed it. The collection speed was fast enough to be genuinely useful rather than just theoretically viable.
He added manual input interfaces alongside the passive collection, so guild members could contribute directly when the situation called for it. He also left expansion interfaces open throughout the design, space for functions that didn't exist yet or that he hadn't finished developing.
The collection device went underground, buried deep beneath the guild's basement alongside several additional ultra-large Magic Crystals that served as the storage bank. The collected power flowed into them and sat there, ready to be drawn on by whatever function needed it.
With the infrastructure in place, he started building the functions.
The first was the one that mattered most: protection.
He had studied Fairy Sphere carefully, the guild's ultimate defensive magic, and used it as a reference point while going considerably further. The result was a large spherical barrier that, when active, covered not just the guild building but the library and a significant volume of the surrounding sky and ground. Complete coverage in every direction.
Fairy Sphere sealed everything inside it when it activated, which was fine for its original purpose and deeply inconvenient for actually running a guild during an attack. Noah removed that aspect entirely. The tradeoff was a reduction in raw defensive power, and he compensated for that tradeoff by building the compensation directly into the barrier's mechanics.
Rather than simply absorbing incoming attacks, the barrier processed them. Energy that could be fully absorbed was absorbed and converted into stored power. Energy that exceeded the absorption threshold got transferred or deflected, distributed across the entire surface area of the barrier rather than concentrated at the impact point. No single hit could find a weak spot by focusing force in one location because the force immediately spread everywhere at once.
It blocked physical attacks. It blocked magical ones. It filtered out poisons and curses. It handled extreme temperature attacks, both heat and cold, without difficulty. He went through his complete knowledge of offensive magic types and built in a defense for each one.
The element he was most satisfied with was borrowed from Fairy Glitter. The original magic gathered the light of the sun, the moon, and the stars and compressed it into an offensive force of considerable power. Noah inverted the application. The barrier would continuously draw on that same ambient light and use it to maintain and strengthen itself, which meant it was not purely dependent on the stored magic crystals. During daylight it drew from the sun. At night it drew from the moon and stars. The self-sustaining aspect meaningfully extended how long it could operate at full capacity.
He built the whole thing into a Magic Crystal, creating a Magic Tool, connected it to the collection device, and buried it.
Then he tested it.
In an empty field outside the city, he ran the barrier at full power and hit it with everything he had available. Concentrated bombardment magic, the Starlight Burst variant he'd developed that carried force ten times that of a standard Magic Concentrated Cannon. He ran it at maximum output and sustained it.
The stored magic power in the crystals dropped rapidly. He watched the levels fall and kept going, pushing until the point where continuing further would damage the device rather than just drain it, and then he stopped.
The barrier had not broken.
He noted the power consumption figures and filed them for later. The solution was more storage capacity, more crystals, or more efficient storage methods. The defensive capability itself was proven. That was the priority for now.
He also tested specialty attacks, things that relied on unusual vectors rather than raw force. Curse-type magic. Temperature extremes. Toxic applications. The barrier handled all of them cleanly.
The second function addressed a specific and entirely predictable aspect of daily life at Fairy Tail.
Natsu and Gray fought almost every day. Erza and Mirajane fought regularly. The general membership treated the guild hall as a venue for magical combat with a frequency that had kept the repair crews busy for years. All of that magic discharge represented a substantial and consistent resource that was currently going entirely to waste and, in the process, doing structural damage.
Noah set a threshold. Magic use below the threshold ran normally. Magic use above the threshold got weakened, and the excess power was captured and fed into the collection system. Guild maintenance costs went down. Storage levels went up. The fights continued, because nothing short of a physical barrier was going to stop the fights, but they became net positive for the guild's power reserves rather than net negative.
The same threshold applied to hostile magic from anyone who broke through the outer barrier. Guild mark holders were exempt. Enemies were not. A hostile mage who made it inside the barrier would find their magic operating at reduced capacity while the defenders around them operated normally.
The third function was the part that felt most like Fairy Tail.
Passive defense was fine. Passive defense was necessary. But the guild had never been the kind of place that absorbed punishment without answering it, and building a fortress that could only take hits and had nothing to say in return was philosophically incomplete.
Magic Concentrated Cannons, significantly upgraded versions built to Noah's specifications, were installed in concealed positions across the guild's rooftop. Inactive and invisible under normal conditions, they would emerge when needed. The improvements he'd made to the design pushed their output to ten times the standard model, and he'd incorporated long-range targeting capability so they didn't require someone on the roof to aim them manually.
If enemies came to the guild's door, they would find the door could shoot back.
The fourth function drew its design inspiration from Tenrou Island itself. The island had always had a particular quality to it for guild members, a strengthening effect, an enhancement of magic power and vitality that came from being within its influence. Noah built a version of that into the barrier system.
When the defensive barrier activated, guild members inside it would receive an enhancement: stronger magic, stronger bodies, accelerated wound recovery, and active suppression of any abnormal status effects they were carrying. Curses that couldn't be immediately removed would be kept from progressing. Poisons would be stabilized rather than allowed to worsen. The full range of hostile status conditions would be managed rather than ignored.
Critically, he tied this function to the barrier's activation state rather than running it continuously. Permanent enhancement during daily life would mean guild members were always operating above their normal capacity, which would distort their training, skew their sense of their own actual strength, and ultimately slow their development. The enhancement was for emergencies. During regular operations, the monitoring function ran instead, conducting passive checks on all guild members within range and triggering an alert if anything unusual was detected.
The fifth function was organizational. Noah had been thinking about information management at the guild for a while, and this was the moment to address it properly.
He built an Archive Magic system into the infrastructure, a Magic Tool constructed from a dedicated Magic Crystal and connected to the collection device, buried alongside the rest. The ground floor counter got an interface terminal, a reserved page through which authorized members could access the system.
Permission levels were structured according to responsibility. Receptionists could access quest listings, member records, and communication functions appropriate to their role. The guild master could access everything. The information itself, personnel records, quest details, historical data, operational logs, lived in the Archive Magic system rather than in physical files that could be lost or damaged.
It also enabled rapid communication between guild members, which had been possible through the marks but was now supplemented by a structured system that could handle more complex information exchange.
The sixth function was surveillance.
Ultra-wide-area detection magic extended outward from the guild in a circle of approximately one hundred kilometers. Within that range, the system could identify individuals carrying significant magical power, track their location, and cross-reference their magical signature against the records stored in the Archive system to determine whether they were known allies, known members, or unknown quantities.
Unknown high-power signatures entering the detection range triggered an alert automatically. Guild members would have warning before a threat arrived rather than after.
Noah registered all current guild members' magical signatures into the system and set the calibration for what constituted a significant enough power level to warrant monitoring. The threshold was set high enough to avoid constant alerts over ordinary travelers and low enough to catch anything that actually needed attention.
While he was working through the detection system, a related idea had been developing in the back of his thinking.
The Magic Council maintained a network of magic collection devices in low Earth orbit, using them to power the satellite cannon that represented their most significant deterrent capability. It was a logical application of the principle. In orbit, there was no atmosphere to attenuate a beam's travel, no terrain to navigate around, no obstruction between the source and any point on the surface below.
Fairy Glitter was one of the guild's foundational super magics, and its operational principle was the collection of sunlight, moonlight, and starlight, compressed and directed into an attack of enormous power. In its current form, used on the ground, it was extraordinary. In low Earth orbit, with unobstructed access to solar light, no atmospheric loss, and the geometric advantage of an elevated firing position, the power ceiling would be categorically different.

Noah worked through the engineering requirements in his head.
The problems were not small. Getting a device to orbit required either a delivery method that didn't currently exist or a creative application of spatial magic that he hadn't fully worked out yet. Maintaining it up there required either autonomous operation or a communication link that could function across that distance reliably. Aiming it from the ground required targeting systems more precise than anything he'd built so far.
None of these problems were unsolvable. They were just not solved yet.
He noted the concept in full detail, set it aside, and continued with what could actually be completed now.
