Chapter 100 - Cleaning Duty

Today was the day we started to clean Lora's new home and business. We had all hands on deck, Zephy, Steph, Vershund, James, everyone was here. Even Shen was here, although she was here to help clean out lungs. Apparently no one wants her to clean.

Which is understandable… if you see her general messiness everywhere but her ears, hair and tail. She'd cause a bigger mess than anything. Verschund too, he was only there to watch on the sides and move heavier things. Shen'd probably get distracted half-way through too.

Whilst… Well the women and I took care of sweeping the rooms, then mopping. The guys went out to buy furniture and everything for the shop. I tried joining them due to the immense amount of things in the air but they had me stay in this building. It was a strict 'men only' trip or so they said.

Thankfully, they did think of something to help me. I had a cloth wrapped around the top of my head to protect my ears. Then I had a mask to cover my nose and mouth, paired with the eyepatch to protect my eye. I was basically fully kitted out.

Before I actually knew it, I was fully prepared for cleaning. But, I have no idea how my body would do it, I was feeling badly crampy today.

Melinda was dusting the windows edges in the front room, Zephy and Steph swept the front room. Allisa was helping her mom… I was given the task to sweep up her future bedroom. Lora was with the guys to buy furniture.

So, why do I have to do this room myself? I thought as I stared at the wooden walls around me. This room was much larger than my room at home. So used to having someone next to me.

So this is it, my diary us once again? By ourselves like that forest and now… here. I started to sweep the dust. Just the amount was enormous, it clouded my vision in seconds. A dust pile started to surmount.

Should've got eye cover… I could feel the stinging already, so I rubbed it. I don't know if they made protective glasses or not in this world. It has a lot of helpful advancements so I was wondering if any personal protection equipment existed. Just gotta get it done… I turned my head to the window to this room.

There's a latch…

I got it open then started to sweep again. This time the fumes weren't trapped in here and I could see the dust fly outside. This is going to be so boring…

So what's the best thing to do when cleaning and bored? Talk to myself of course, there's really no way else to. I never really get time to myself anymore…. I prefer it that way. Whenever I do it feels like things won't go right.

But hearing the laughing outside eased my worries; Zephy was annoying Steph… I could hear the latter's frustration rising. Her voice was calm when discussing the jobs, but now it was low and stern. If I hear something hitting the floor, I'd know Steph was at her limit.

Why am I the only one that has to be in a room to herself? I wondered and asked myself. Surely you don't know either, my dear old diary… At least gives me time to think to myself.

The first major concerns I can think of where I'm at… James and Shen most likely want me to join that damn cafe. It's pretty obvious.

Why else would Shen bring me there, then James and her keeping it a secret? At breakfast they were trying hard not to spill anything. I'll worry about it later. Despite no one there I rolled my eyes. I prefer adventuring.

I like casting magic and learning my own spells. Speaking of which… I stared at the pile of dust I made. Can't I move this with my mana?

To test that theory, I kneeled on the ground and maneuvered my mana into the pile. There was an immediate issue I felt, I needed to make a connection with every grain of dust.

Do I have to make all of these connections…? I closed my eye and pictured a line connecting to the piles, then it split into an enormous amount. Let's… see…

I shot mana into these individual particles and commanded them to levitate. In a second I felt a quarter of my mana disappear. Try-

It took all I had~ but I managed to make at least half the pile float. However I tried to force it to shoot out. And… I nearly fell face first into the pile when I nearly sapped all of my mana.

Welp… that was a failure…

"Uh…" James let out as soon as he saw me. "Do you need help?"

"N-No thanks…" I managed to stutter as my face got hotter. "I-I got it in here… I'm almost done…"

That's embarrassing… Ugh! How I kept myself from falling, I stumbled nearly into the wall; basically I caught myself on the wall. But he walked in at that moment.

He had furrowed eyebrows and a bit wide eyes staring at me. This'll just make him further worried and pushy.

We awkwardly stared at each other for a moment, then he said, "If you need help call for one of us…"

"I thought you were grabbing furniture with the other guys…" I replied before fixing my appearance and grabbed the broom I dropped. "And I'm fine… This is nothing."

"Yukina, you look exhausted already."

"I can do this." I held the broom and fixed my posture.

"... Just don't get hurt." James commented before shutting the door behind him.

I'm not some helpless girl. I rolled my eyes and started going at this damn room. Just don't use mana…

Thank god the window wasn't that high, I forced the dust to fling out. So, repeatedly I made piles of dust by the window and swept with all my might. It got to the point my arms started to burn and my good eye started to tear up.

Before I knew it, I managed to get all the dust out of the room. Yet my body was sore, and my mana was barely recovered; my body was sweating like I ran a marathon. Outside I could hear everyone talking.

James— melinda… Lora's meek voice, Shen sounded bored. Of course there was Sage who sounded depressed since she couldn't help. Am I just that slow or is everyone too quick…?

When I walked out, I could see multiple stacks of crates near the front door. Neither of the guys seemed to be sweating… The ones who cleaned the front were not sweating or out of breath.

Everything was clean, and efficient. None of the ladies, nor I could help tear open the boxes. Shaun and Verd were strong enough to pry them apart with slight struggle. And for the rest of the day… I just sat idly by and watched.

By the time they were done, I was starting to feel myself doze off. My eyelids… were feeling very heavy.
