Just then, Saitama stepped out of the portal.
"A newcomer? Him?" Wolverine had just deflected a claw strike with his metal claws and was forced back a few steps. Seeing what Saitama looked like, he couldn't help muttering.
One of the Demon Worms noticed the newly arrived target. It let out a piercing hiss, threw open its jagged maw packed with sharp claws, and lunged to bite Saitama—fast as lightning!
Saitama watched the massive worm charge at him. He didn't dodge or retreat. He simply raised both hands and precisely grabbed the armor plates on either side of its head, steadily stopping its momentum.
The impact that could have flipped a tank meant nothing in his hands.
The worm thrashed wildly, the claws on its head flailing—but it couldn't even touch Saitama.
"It's really ugly," Saitama commented. Then he pulled his right arm back and drove a heavy straight punch into the very center of its head!
Bang!!!
A dull crack rang out, like someone smashing a giant walnut.
The Demon Worm's enormous body stiffened. Starting from the fist mark on its head, its shell shattered inch by inch. The dark energy inside lost control and spilled out. It collapsed limply, twitched twice, then stopped moving—its body gradually dissolving into black smoke.
Wolverine, Colossus, and the others—who had been struggling bitterly just a moment ago—were all stunned.
"Jean!" Professor X's voice rang inside Phoenix's mind. "Now!! Use your power to seal the rift!"
Phoenix snapped back to her senses and immediately focused. The immense Phoenix Force surged out, turning into streams of rainbow-colored energy that wrapped around the unstable spatial rift like a woven net, forcibly stitching it together and smoothing it shut.
The other Demon Worm seemed to sense the threat and tried to interfere with Phoenix. But the instant it moved, Saitama appeared right in front of it.
"Don't interrupt someone while they're working."
As he spoke, he sprang up and delivered a sweeping side kick!
The worm's side armor instantly caved in and burst apart. Its entire body was blasted away by the tremendous force, crashing through several trees, rolling across the ground a few times—then going still as well, dissolving into black smoke.
At last, Phoenix wiped away the final trace of the rift, and space returned to stability.
All that remained at the scene were wisps of scattered dark energy and the torn-up ground—proof of the battle that had just taken place.
Wolverine retracted his claws and walked up to Saitama, looking him up and down. He clicked his tongue. "Buddy, your style… even rougher than Logan—yeah, me—over here. Straight to the point… but thanks."
Saitama nodded. "No problem. What about the students?"
Professor X rolled over in his wheelchair. "Thank you for your help, Saitama. The rift is sealed, but the students who were sucked in are still on the other side. However, now that the energy source has been cut off, that space should gradually collapse. We'll locate them immediately and bring them back. This time, we really owe you."
"As long as you can save them," Saitama said, glancing around. "So I'm done here, right?"
"Thank you again," Professor X said with a slight nod, opening another portal leading to Saitama's apartment.
Saitama waved and stepped through. The portal closed behind him.
This time, before Saitama could even properly sit down on the couch, his phone rang again.
It was Fury.
"Saitama, come to Trident Headquarters immediately," Fury said, his voice tight. "We've made some new discoveries about the dark energy, but… something went wrong. We need your help."
