New York City
The portal above Stark Tower churned like a living storm, blue light spilling across the skyline as Chitauri forces poured through in endless waves. Leviathans cut through the clouds, their massive bodies blotting out the sun as they descended toward the streets.
The city had become a war zone.
Iron Man tore through the air between skyscrapers, HUD lighting up with red alerts that refused to stop. Chitauri flyers swarmed like insects, forcing him to constantly adjust altitude.
"Okay, note to self," Tony muttered as he fired a repulsor blast straight through one of them, "next alien invasion, bring bigger guns."
He angled upward, missiles locking onto a Leviathan's armored spine. The explosion rippled across its body but barely slowed it.
"Yeah, figured," Tony sighed, banking hard to avoid a counterblast. "You're one of those problems."
On the ground, Captain America was everywhere at once.
Shield up. Orders shouted. Lines held.
He intercepted a squad of Chitauri charging down a street, blocking incoming fire while NYPD officers evacuated civilians behind him.
"Move! Now!" Steve yelled, deflecting a blast that shattered a nearby bus.
He charged forward the moment the last civilian cleared the corner, shield crashing into alien armor with practiced precision.
Black Widow slid behind cover as an energy bolt scorched the pavement where her head had been a second earlier. She returned fire without hesitation, dropping a Chitauri soldier before vaulting over a taxi.
"Aliens don't bleed," she muttered, firing again, "but they fall just fine."
From high above, Hawkeye tracked targets with calm precision.
Arrows flew in controlled arcs—explosive tips detonating midair, shock arrows dropping flyers out of the sky. He repositioned constantly, never staying in one place long enough to be noticed.
Hulk slammed into a cluster of Chitauri like a living meteor, sending bodies flying in every direction. He roared, the sound echoing off buildings as he grabbed a charging Leviathan by its plating.
With a furious bellow, he stopped it.
Metal screamed as Hulk dug in his heels, muscles bulging as he hauled the massive creature downward and smashed it into the street.
BOOM.
The impact cratered the road.
Hulk stood tall amid the wreckage, chest heaving.
"Puny aliens," he growled.
Lightning cracked across the sky as Thor descended, Mjolnir spinning in his grip. He struck the street like a thunderbolt, the shockwave sending Chitauri soldiers flying.
"For Midgard!" he roared, hammer swinging in wide arcs, each strike charged with divine force.
"So anyone have an idea where Luke is?" Tony's voice cut through the comms, sharp and irritated. "That portal doesn't close itself, and the only thing that can shut it down is Loki's staff—which he has."
A brief pause, filled with static and distant explosions.
"You were the last one to see him," Steve replied, steady as ever. "Why are you asking us?"
Tony dodged a blast and fired back without missing a beat. "Because that was before this mess began."
Before anyone could answer, the portal above Manhattan pulsed violently.
Something huge began to force its way through.
Then another.
Then another.
Three Leviathans tore out of the portal, their massive armored bodies blotting out parts of the sky as they descended, roaring through the air.
Chitauri poured out behind them in swarms, riding the chaos like it was planned.
"Well," Tony said dryly as he banked hard to avoid falling debris, "that's definitely a problem."
Then the sky roared.
A deep, crushing sound that rolled across Manhattan like the world itself had taken a breath.
ROOOAAARRR—
A beam of red fire tore through the sky.
It slammed straight into the portal, washing over the Leviathans and the swarm pouring out behind them. The sound was deafening—like metal screaming as it melted.
Chitauri ships didn't explode so much as evaporate, their armor glowing white-hot before disintegrating into ash.
One Leviathan tried to push through.
The fire cut it in half.
Its body collapsed midair, crashing into a building in a wave of steam and debris.
Tony slowed, hovering in shock. "Okay… that's new."
He turned his head just in time to see it.
A massive dragon circled above Manhattan, wings spread wide, scales burning like living embers.
"…Finally," Tony muttered, "some backup."
Before anyone could process that, the air across the city rippled.
Thousands—no, tens of thousands—of blue swords formed out of thin air, hovering for a split second before launching downward.
WHOOSH—WHOOSH—WHOOSH
They rained through the streets, through the sky, through every angle imaginable, hunting Chitauri with brutal precision.
Riders were skewered mid-flight. Ground troops were pinned before they could raise their weapons. The sound of clashing metal was drowned out by impacts, screams, and collapsing armor.
At the center of it all, a blue flare tore through the sky—straight toward Tony.
Then it slowed.
Luke descended, surrounded by a burning blue aura, Loki's scepter held loosely in one hand.
He glanced up at the portal.
Then at Tony.
"Go," Luke said, voice carrying easily over the chaos. "Close the portal. I'll handle cleanup."
With a flick of his fingers, the swords shifted direction in unison, tearing into another wave of Chitauri like a steel tide.
Tony didn't argue.
He landed hard beside the platform where Selvig was already at the controls.
"NOW!" Selvig shouted, pointing at the core.
Tony raised the scepter. The energy flared violently, blue light colliding with the Tesseract's glow. For a split second, it felt like pushing against a tidal wave.
Then he drove the scepter down.
The beam cut the connection, slicing clean through the Tesseract's field.
CRACK—
The portal snapped shut like a slammed door. Chitauri ships caught mid-entry were torn apart.
"So… anyone hungry?" Tony asked casually over the comms. "Because I'm thinking shawarma."
