Chapter 30 - Who am I ?

There was no light in sight—only a thick fog of darkness, heavy and unyielding. I stood in the middle of it, swallowed whole. I turned left, then right. No door. No path. No way out. I couldn't remember how I got there, or why. My mind searched for answers, but none came.

Then, out of nowhere, two figures emerged. As they stepped forward, a soft beam of light revealed their faces. They looked just like me.

One stood tall—neat, calm, a soft glow in her eyes and a gentle smile resting on her lips.

The other… she was also neat, but her aura was darker. She looked down, a smirk creeping across her face before letting out a low, twisted laugh. It sent chills down my spine—the kind of laugh that echoed through villain monologues in TV shows I used to watch.

"Mia..." the first one spoke softly. "You've come this far. You can't fall apart now. You've fought too long to shatter at this point. What would all the pain have been for?"

She stepped closer.

"After everything you've done... after all the wrongs, life still brought you somewhere new. A new place. A new beginning. And here it is again—another chance. Are you really going to waste this one too?"

Her words hung heavy in the silence. They sank deep. Was she right? Was this really life giving me a reset? A new shot at being who I was meant to be?

Then the second one laughed again—louder, harsher, more bitter than before. It stung.

"New chance?" she scoffed. "Opportunity? Please."

She raised her head, eyes piercing into mine. The voice… it was so familiar. I couldn't place it, but something about the way she spoke—it felt like I'd known it my whole life.

"Why do you think life keeps moving you from place to place?" she said. "Because you still don't know who you are. If life really wanted to give you a new beginning, wouldn't it have happened already? Wouldn't your demons have disappeared? Wouldn't the voice in your head shut up? Wouldn't your past stop haunting you like a shadow you can't escape?"

She paused, her smirk widening.

"No, right? It's because you are the darkness. And the more you suppress who you are, the more it tears you apart from the inside. You might try to change your personality—but no one ever truly escapes who they are."

Then, just like that, they both vanished.

The light? Gone.

Darkness wrapped around me again.I stood frozen—between light and darkness, between truth and doubt, between who I was and who I could become.

Suddenly, two loud voices boomed from every corner of the space:

"Who are you?"

"Who do you want to be?"

"Don't run away from it… you are it."

"You can craft your destiny—don't ruin yet another opportunity!"

Then, a third voice—different, softer… familiar.

"Mia..."it called.

I turned around, trying to locate it.

"MIA!" the voice snapped louder this time.

My eyes flew open.

Cecilia stood above me, nudging me awake.

"Come on,"she said, "we'll be late for class."

I blinked, confused. Looked around.

It was just the two of us in the room.

"Was it all... a dream?" I whispered.

"Go take a quick bath, Mia," Cecilia said, dragging me out of bed and toward the bathroom.

And as the water ran, one question echoed in my mind—

Who am I?
