Chapter 332: Subdued with Ease
However, the aura around these attackers suddenly became violent. The vines released by Serie, which should have been as hard as steel, were actually slashed apart by them directly. Their speed undiminished, they continued to charge at her.
In response, Serie chose to repeat her previous trick. Four diamond-shaped light shields appeared around her instantly and smashed outward!
The attackers attempted to swing their weapons, imbued with anti-magic effects, to forcibly break Serie's light shields, but it was useless.
As the earliest beings to encounter attacks with anti-magic properties, Serie and Rhodes had long since improved their shield magic.
Let alone anti-magic attacks, even Zoltraak—the killing magic that hadn't appeared yet—wouldn't be able to break the shields released by these two.
One could only say that for some demons, their magic might be obsolete the moment they were born.
All the attackers were knocked flying by the light shields. Although they weren't embedded into the walls like the lead warrior, they were forced to distance themselves from Serie.
Their plan to subdue the Elven Saint by closing the distance had failed. The attackers exchanged glances and made a decision immediately.
They quickly split into two groups. One group continued charging at Serie, while the other rushed swiftly toward Alvin and the other disciples, who were still staggering from the previous shockwave!
"Defend, quickly!" Alvin shouted.
They naturally noticed the shift in the attackers' targets, so they hurriedly cast various magical shields, trying to block the attacks.
However, their shields were clearly not improved like Rhodes and Serie's, and were soon shattered by the attackers.
After suppressing the attackers rushing at her, Serie caught a glimpse of the other group pouncing on her disciples from the corner of her eye. Her face instantly became incredibly ugly.
"Truly disgusting!" The elf lady was furious.
Attacking her could be seen as a challenge, and she didn't mind fighting them for fun.
But turning their target to her weaker disciples, attempting to use them as hostages to threaten her... this behavior thoroughly touched her reverse scale.
She stopped tangling with these attackers and cast a high-level Gravity Magic directly, attempting to immobilize them.
But Serie hadn't expected their strength to be far greater than imagined. The Gravity Magic only slowed their movements slightly; they weren't immobilized on the spot like the adventurers earlier.
However, Serie wasn't worried about her disciples' safety, because she noticed Rhodes had acted.
Just as the attackers rushing at Alvin's group reached them, their bodies suddenly stopped moving.
This wasn't Gravity Magic, but a spell that directly imprisoned space.
Rhodes had appeared beside Alvin and the others unnoticed. Centered on his position, an indescribable restrictive force spread silently, precisely shrouding every attacking figure on the field.
Everyone covered by this force, no matter how fast or strong, froze in place, maintaining their last posture. They couldn't even move their eyeballs.
But their consciousness was still active. The terrifying suppression that prevented even a finger from twitching filled their hearts with extreme fear.
Just what kind of existence have we provoked?
Rhodes lowered his hand, his gaze sweeping over the chaotic crowd around them.
He could only say this country had been peaceful for too long. Even with a brawl of this magnitude, there were still plenty of onlookers.
Curiosity truly was human nature.
"How annoying..." Serie walked to his side, her anger slightly quelled by his timely intervention.
She wasn't good at magic that controlled people's actions; she excelled at high-powered destructive magic.
Rhodes nodded. "These people are just the vanguard. The true threat might still be in the dark."
His detection magic activated at maximum power again, rapidly analyzing the energy fluctuations of everyone in the surrounding crowd.
Rhodes didn't believe there were only this many attackers. There must be accomplices hiding in the crowd.
"In the crowd, there are quite a few mages whose mana has reached a certain level."
He suspected these powerful mages were likely in league with the attackers but had temporarily abandoned the idea of acting after seeing his strength far exceed expectations.
"Heh! Eighty percent chance they are accomplices! I don't believe any qualified mage has the leisure to watch a street fight," Serie sneered.
"Since they want to hide..." A cold glint flashed in Rhodes's eyes. "Then let's bring them all out."
He stopped being polite and had no patience to screen them one by one.
He raised his right hand, fingers slightly spread, and grasped at the crowd before him.
In an instant, an invisible spatial force descended. This force wasn't a crude attack but carried a property of repulsion.
In the crowd, mages whose strength reached a certain level suddenly discovered with horror that the space around them was forcibly imprisoned by an irresistible force.
Like the attackers, they couldn't move at all. Then, involuntarily leaving their spots, they were forcibly "pulled" out of the crowd!
One, two, three... over a dozen mages with considerable strength were dragged out and thrown to the ground in front of Rhodes and Serie, piling up with the attackers.
They looked up. Some of them, seeing Rhodes and Serie radiating suffocating pressure, lost all color in their faces instantly, leaving only boundless fear.
They finally understood what terrifying existences they had provoked.
"Can Spatial Magic really do this?" Seeing Rhodes's near-miraculous operation, Serie asked curiously.
She knew Spatial Magic too—she could do small-scale teleportation and spatial fracture attacks—but she wasn't nearly as proficient as Rhodes.
"Actually, I incorporated some other magic into it. I will teach you later."
"Mn." Serie's mood improved instantly.
As expected, staying with this man always led to discovering the many mysteries of magic.
"However, for now..." Rhodes looked at the numerous attackers before him. "Let's take these guests back and entertain them properly. See if we can get anything interesting out of them."
The street was a mess, but the disturbance had been quelled.
The surrounding citizens looked at Rhodes and Serie with awe, voluntarily making way.
Rhodes used levitation magic to drag the bound captives like balloons, walking with Serie toward the Magic Association.
"Hurry up and follow! You disgraceful lot!"
After walking a few steps and realizing her foolish disciples hadn't followed, Serie turned around and shouted angrily at them.
Alvin and the others immediately followed their teacher, though their faces were all quite ugly.
After all, they had been humiliated this time. Who knew how Master Serie would scold them when they got back?
