Moonstone Haven is beautiful, no doubt; it has everything one might need. Food, water, and even the internet, which is protected by a firewall. Yeah, no joke, there is a pack member who learned about coding and shit that created a firewall for every device that is used.
Catherine gave me lots of clothes too, and I have even started eating together with everyone. To be honest, I was expecting them to eat suspicious things like raw animals. But apparently they don't; they consume foods that I do.
But even after all this, I don't like it here much. I'm feeling homesick; I miss Wisteria. Besides, I have been rotting in the room all day. I asked Cyrus if I could go out, and he just gave me a look and said no.
Jokes on him, I'm going out. When he leaves the pack house to patrol the border, I'm tagging along whether he likes it or not. I closed the door to my room after I turned off all the lights.
I even laid some pillows and covered it with the cover to make it look like I'm sleeping. I tiptoe my way to the stairs, occasionally looking around to see if anyone is around.
Though it's highly unlikely for anyone to be in this area of the packhouse, it falls under 'exclusive to Cyrus Grayson' territory. Only Catherine, Tristan, and Rowan are allowed to enter this area.
And Catherine and Tristan are already off to bed, and Rowan and Cyrus are on their way to the border, so I'm safe from everyone's eye.
I descend down the stairs and immediately duck, hiding myself. Cyrus and Rowan are still here talking about something I can't hear. I peek from the side of the wall to see them walking away. Phew. That was close.
I start to come out, but Cyrus stops just in time and turns around, causing me to step back and hide once more.
God. I hope he didn't see me.
I count to ten before I look again; they are gone. I hurry to follow them after I quietly close the gate. After a minute of walking, I don't see either of them. Are they flying or what?
I walk further into the woods, and the more I don't see Cyrus, the more my unease grows. Coming here wasn't a mistake, right?
Should I call out Cyrus's name? But what if he gets mad? Of course he's going to. He made it very clear that I am not allowed to go out, and I didn't listen.
I think I should just go back; tomorrow I'll ask Cyrus to take me out. I'll even beg him if I have to—
A low, almost vibrating groan fills the space, cutting the sudden silence. My body freezes at the sudden sense of cold filling me. I gulp audibly before turning to the source of the sound.
Another low groan reaches my ear before I finally lay my eyes on it. A spotted hyena.
Oh shit. My heart leaps to my throat at the sight of it. Its entire attention is directed at me. I slowly take a step back, hoping and praying it doesn't see.
Wrong move. The hyena perks up and slowly opens its mouth, baring its teeth at me. Moreover, it takes a threatening slow step towards me with a creepy smile on its face.
A cold sweat prickles along my spine, my pulse throbbing at the base of my throat. My breath hitches once I see that ugly creature slowly advancing towards me with the same creepy smile on its face.
I look around hoping to see Cyrus nearby so I could alert him. My heart trembles with fear, and a tear slips from my eye. The hyena, now closer to me, flares its nostrils before letting out a high-pitched squeal and charging at me full speed.
My survival instinct kicks in as I turn to the side and sprint. The hyena laughs like a damn psychopath as it chases me through the woods. I have no idea how the fuck I am running so fast, but I'll assume it's adrenaline.
My lungs burn with the lack of oxygen as I don't risk stopping, not even for a second. I take a moment to look back at the damn creature; however, I bump my legs against a fallen branch and fall on my side. The impact knocks the breath out of me, and I gasp for air.
I hurry to sit up and see the hyena has stopped now, and it's staring at me. It moos at me almost in a taunting tone, and rage baits me successfully. Oh, you ugly thing.
This time I look it dead in the eye and reach my hand for the branch that caused me to fall. The hyena follows my movement with its eyes, and its smile drops. It's my turn to smile now, bitch.
I stand up with the support of the branch and hold it out with both my hands. The hyena lets out a high-pitched scream before lunging at me. I take the moment to hit it right on its jaw with the branch.
It falls on the ground, head first, but ends up scratching my arm through my sleeve with its claws. It gets up pretty fast and growls at me, anger filling its eyes.
"Dropped the creepy smile?" I can't help taunting it. Two can play the game.
The hyena flares its nostrils before it jumps up. I swing the branch once again, aiming at the other side of its jaw, but it catches the branch on its mouth and snatches it out of my hands.
I stumble forward with the force. The creepy little bitch throws the branch away after snapping it in two. I had heard the stories about their strong jaws, but I didn't realize they were this strong.
The creepy smile returns on its face. My face hardens as I glare at it. With my fear long gone, all I want to do is to hang it in the air and choke it before throwing it on the ground.
My fingers curled with rage. The hyena stops smiling and coughs once. I blink once I see it breaking into a fit of cough before it rises into the air and stays there hanging. It thrashes wildly, kicking its feet everywhere, fighting something or someone invisible.
My eyes widen once its eyes roll back and it lets out a soft whimper. I extend my hands, the ones that were just curled, trying to help it. But the hyena dropped to the ground before I could.
I hurry to check if it's dead, but it stands up and jumps in the air, attempting to attack me once again.
I lift my hand in the air, and the hyena stops in its tracks, suspended in the air. I gape at the scene, shocked, and judging by the looks of it, the hyena is too.
It's when the hyena stares at my palm lifted in the air that I notice my hand is still lifted. I stare at the back of my hand before turning it around to face the palm. I squint between my palm and the suspended hyena in the air before I relax my palm and let it stay at my side. The hyena falls down on the ground right at the cue, and I realize with horror that I was controlling it.
The creepy bitch, however, still in the mood to fight and pounces at me one final time. But before it could reach me, it was pushed away and clawed in a swift motion.
A huge gray wolf claws at the hyena while letting out deep, angry growls. The wolf opens its mouth, ready to snap the hyena's limbs.
"Stop it!" The wolf turns his head to look at me, his glowing purple eyes softening. The hyena takes the chance to claw at the wolf's neck and runs away.
The wolf only flinches as the reaction before it runs to me, wagging its tail. Once I notice its eyes, I realize I'm looking at Cyrus's wolf form.
And he is beautiful.
