Chapter 127 - Happy without a future

Kang-Dae's POV

The taxi had barely turned the corner when I already regretted getting in.

I feel so stupid and embarrassed, I'm just talking nonsense.

But, lost in my thoughts, the driver asked me for the address a second time.

I repeated it to him before sinking into the seat, then took out my phone to check the time.

No messages, no calls.

Logically, I only have 5 contacts.

Every night when I get home I still wonder if I had stayed.

Would my life have been better?

Maybe I could have had a real job?

If I had taken enough responsibility, but I cannot regret it because every time I imagined my parents dying, the only pain I felt was the fact that there would be no one left to pay for my living expenses.

I would have done it by being the murderer.

– (Being an adult isn't easy, I alone cost a lot, so adding a wife and kids...)

I'm going to stay single.

The taxi stopped in front of my building. I paid, went up the stairs and pushed open the door to my apartment; my roommates weren't there tonight.

The sink was full of dishes and a bill I had been putting off for three days was on the table.

I turned on the light,

Tac

I took off my jacket and stood for a few moments in the middle of the room, unable to decide where to begin.

My phone is getting me out of the task.

A message from the store manager informed me that a replacement would be needed the following morning. I replied that I could take the shift, then put the device away.

I'm just going to go to bed.

Lying on my bed, my eyes fixed on the ceiling which threatens to hug me.

Silence total.

I smiled for no reason and fell asleep without even knowing it, alone in the sunlight I allowed myself to get out of bed and take a shower.

I was the first to arrive at the store, twelve minutes early.

I noticed it immediately, because Ki-Moon was never early without a reason. He was wearing the same clothes as the day before, his hair was still damp, and he kept his eyes fixed on the ground as he put on his uniform. When he passed me on his way to the reserve, I handed him a paper bag.

– Take this before you start.

He stopped moving.

- What is this ?

– Food. A fairly widespread invention, it seems.

He opened the bag and found a sandwich and a bottle of milk. His gaze flickered from the contents to my face, then back to the bag.

– Thank you, you didn't have to

– call me "big brother"

He finally let out a muffled laugh.

The morning passed without incident until a man entered the store and headed towards Ki-Moon's cash register.

At first, I paid him no attention. He was wearing a dark coat, carrying a folder under his arm, and seemed rushed enough that I assumed he was just popping in to buy something before work. However, when I looked up a few minutes later, I noticed he wasn't looking at the products displayed behind the counter, but at the face of Ki-Moon, Et Ki-Moon's hand froze above the barcode scanner.

His expression hadn't really changed, but his shoulders had stiffened and his fingers had closed around the article he was holding.

"20 please," he murmured.

The man consulted the document he had taken from his file and placed it on his counter with marbles.

Ki-Moon placed the item on the counter and picked up just the money before folding the paper and throwing it aside.

Strange .
