MHGA Chapter 215 – Arasaka Yorinobu, Witness to It All
Through their binoculars, Laios and Tanjiro clearly saw that the bullets fired from Naofumi Iwatani's Heavy Bowgun didn't hit Kirin directly. Instead, they struck something just before contact, bursting into a shower of sparks.
That was Kirin's electric force field, generated by the electricity surging across its body.
This is precisely why a Kirin in a charged and enraged state becomes even tougher and harder to handle.
"No damage."
Naofumi shouted to the driving Kairo Retsu:
"All it did was slow it down a little. No other effects."
"Swap ammo once the Wyvernheart Rounds run out!"
Kairo shouted while flooring the accelerator.
"Did you bring Cluster Bombs? Slicing Ammo? Spread Shot? Whatever works—just hammer it with everything you've got!"
"Got it."
Naofumi's gaze sharpened as he observed Kirin's assault.
With Tanjiro's warning, he deployed a Spirit Shield in defense.
Then, after the last Wyvernheart Round was spent, he quickly reloaded his bowgun with massive shells from his backpack.
Cluster Bombs—
Powerful shells made with locally sourced Blastnuts and Gunpowder from the Monster Hunter world.
When mixed properly by Hunters, these explosive materials give Cluster Bombs enough force to penetrate even monster hide and lodge into flesh—
before exploding moments later.
With impact like a warhammer, it can even knock a monster unconscious.
But the downside: Hunters can only carry a limited amount.
Sure, they could mix more on the fly—
But Naofumi hadn't learned that skill yet…
He couldn't help but wonder just how Kairo Retsu could craft more explosives in the middle of a monster's assault—
reaching into his pack and hand-crafting shells during mere seconds of opening…
What kind of profession is a Hunter even supposed to be?!
"BOOM!!"
The massive recoil of the Cluster Bomb nearly dislocated Naofumi's shoulder as it launched.
The round flew straight at Kirin's head—
And even the enraged beast, not inclined to dodge, sensed danger.
It turned its head just in time, and the shell embedded in the lower neck instead.
Moments later, the explosive detonated under Kirin, landing a clean hit.
But for an Elder Dragon with such immense vitality—
This damage was barely a scratch.
"I brought Cluster Bombs too!"
Laios leaned out the window, eyes fixed on Kirin.
"I've got Spread Ammo and ingredients too.
I figured normal rounds wouldn't work, so I prepped for this in advance."
"I'll help mix them!"
Laios pulled out more Cluster Bombs from his own backpack.
"I get it now… Kairo Retsu! Can't you go any faster?! Kirin's almost on us!"
Naofumi yelled.
Kirin, furious, was rapidly closing the distance with the car, even though Kairo had the pedal floored.
"How the hell should I know!?
I've already floored it!!
Just how fast can Kirin even run?!"
Kairo had both hands gripping the wheel, foot jammed on the gas.
"I think it can go faster."
Laios peered through his binoculars.
"This Kirin… looks like it's giving it everything it's got."
"It almost feels like…
it's trying to drive us somewhere?"
Laios analyzed as he watched.
The chase, along with the thunderous sounds of combat, echoed for miles across the Badlands.
Many scavengers in the outskirts of Night City were startled by the noise—
afraid some megacorp had started a war again.
But there was one person who saw the whole thing with his own eyes.
Arasaka Yorinobu, en route to Night City via a fleet of floating transports,
was seated in his grav-car when the electromagnetic interference struck.
The interference diverted their route—
and from a long-range camera, he saw the battle unfold.
Possibly due to the distance, his equipment remained unaffected.
And from that extreme range, Arasaka Yorinobu witnessed the chase between the Hunters and the Kirin.
"What the hell is that?!"
He stared at the unicorn-like figure of Kirin, mind reeling as his worldview began to collapse.
Was this some new piece of technology?
A mech modeled after a unicorn?
Or some grotesque product of biotech?
While Yorinobu wrestled with his doubts—
He saw a figure rise from the sunroof of the speeding car.
A youth with dark red hair drew a massive Great Sword from his back.
"?!"
In stunned silence, Yorinobu watched as the youth leapt from the speeding car—
and swung the colossal blade at the charging Kirin.
In the very next moment—
A colossal lightning strike shot down from the clouds, vaporizing the car.
The explosion was catastrophic.
Yorinobu assumed everyone in that car had perished—
And that red-haired youth would soon be crushed by the unicorn-like creature.
But then—
From the charred wreckage, several figures slowly emerged.
"Goddammit!
It actually blew up our car!"
Kairo Retsu growled, a bottle of Potion in his mouth.
He reached for the Great Sword on his back.
"Even running isn't an option anymore.
Now what?"
"…There might be a way."
Laios' eyes lit up with fervor.
"Just not right now.
Guess I'll have to die once first…"
"Something's definitely wrong with your understanding of mortality…
But I agree."
Naofumi readied his Heavy Bowgun again.
"Elder Dragons… are true monsters."
The Hunters engaged Kirin head-on in the Badlands.
And Arasaka Yorinobu—
witnessed it all.
In utter disbelief, he stared as these so-called superhumans clashed with that unicorn-like monster—
and were mowed down.
