Chapter 11 - Enegry

It had been two weeks, sense Ethan had found his Noibat, during that time, he was getting along with the Bat Pokémon.

As now he was with Kitsu in there Older Sister Voilet Library.

As her Delta Charizard was next to her, as she was explaining them Pokémon types.

Do to her gaol to be a professor, she was great in this, she opened her book as she started

"This is kind of common knowledge. What Pokémon use aren't the elements directly. They use a special force we call Type Energy. Every Pokémon has what we call an Energy Core. The color of their core determines their main Type—like Fire is red, Fairy is pink, Dragon is purple, and so on.

These cores let Pokémon perform feats that shouldn't be physically possible. Some Pokémon are born with two cores, like Bulbasaur. Others gain one through evolution, and sometimes the core can shift or upgrade, like Normal-types becoming something else later on.

So when a Water move hits a Ground-type, it isn't "water vs dirt," it's Water Energy disrupting Ground Energy. That's why the shower doesn't hurt—it's just water without the energy behind it."

She looked at her two siblings as she continues. "That's also why some Normal-types hit like a truck. Their "Normal Core" is broad and flexible, so they often tap into secondary energy streams. That's how Nidoking can learn Surf—it isn't learning to "control water," it's channeling Water Energy through a secondary core. It's not about the element itself—it's about the energy".

Ethan leaned back in his chair, watching his sister enthusiastically wave her pen like a wand as diagrams of type cores filled the notebook.

Kitsu's Flareion was beside her, tails swished lazily beside her, though one ear flicked with interest. "So... if Type Energy is the real source, does that mean humans can use it too?" she asked, voice curious and bright.

Violet blinked. "Technically, no. At least, not like Pokémon can. We don't have stable cores — our energy flow is scattered. That's why Aura users are so rare — they're the only humans whose bodies can form a pseudo-core."

Ethan froze. Aura again.

Drayden's words came back to him from two weeks ago: "I think your son can use Aura."

He tried not to react, but Violet noticed the flicker in his eyes. "Something wrong, Ethan?"

He quickly waved it off. "No, no, just… thinking. So, Type Energy is kind of like… a universal current?"

"Exactly!" Violet beamed. "Some researchers think it all comes from one primordial source — they call it Origin Energy. It's the theory that all Types are fragments of one ancient force that split over time."

Kitsu tilted her head. "Like Arceus?"

Violet paused. "Maybe. That's… still debated."

Ethan, internally, could only smirk. You have no idea how right you are.

As Violet returned to scribbling in her notes, her Delta Charizard gave a low rumble, its black-and-blue flames flickering in sync with her excitement.

The entire library felt alive with energy — literal and figurative.

Then suddenly, the lights flickered. The Charizard growled, wings flaring slightly.

Ethan blinked and looked up. "Did… something just drain power?"

Violet frowned. "That wasn't electricity. That was… energy interference. Something just spiked in the city's ambient field."

Kitsu's Flareion bristled.

"Meaning?" - Kitsu

Violet stood up, closing her book. "Meaning something — or someone — just released a lot of Type Energy nearby."

Ethan and Kitsu exchanged a glance.

Voilet looked at the twins as she sighed. "Seeing it's from our house".

She then screamed. "Midori Stop Experimenting in house!".

"Sorry Little Sis!". Came a voice from Midori lab.

Ethan sighed as he spoke. "Why is she like this".

Voilet sighed looking at him. "Blame dad for making her a lab in the Mansion".

Violet pinched the bridge of her nose, muttering under her breath. "I swear, one of these days she's going to accidentally turn the greenhouse into a miniature Ultra Wormhole again…"

Ethan's eyebrow twitched. "Again?"

Kitsu snickered, her Flareion tails flicking with amusement. "Oh yeah, you missed that one, big bro. Last month, she tried to test how Fairy Energy interacts with Dragon cores—ended up summoning a Cutiefly swarm from Alola. Dad had to call in gardeners for a week."

Violet sighed, leaning against her desk. "She's brilliant, don't get me wrong. But she's also… Midori."

Ethan groaned. "That's not a description, that's a warning label."

Before Violet could respond, a muffled boom echoed through the hall, followed by a puff of pink smoke curling out from under the door.

Violet slammed her notebook shut. "Okay, that's it!"

Kitsu giggled as Violet stormed toward the hall. "Here we go again…"

Ethan hesitated before following, muttering to himself. "Two weeks since Noibat, and I'm already questioning if our family needs a safety manual."

As they reached Midori's lab, the door swung open — revealing their older sister covered in soot, goggles askew, holding what looked like a Poké Ball… that was glowing rainbow colors.

Midori smiled sheepishly. "Good news — I think I made an Energy Converter!"

Violet deadpanned. "Bad news?"

Midori looked down at the Poké Ball as it sparked violently. "It might explode."

Ethan blinked. "Of course it might."

Kitsu looked at the Pokéball as she spoke. "Big Sis, please tell that not the Pokéball that has your Metagross".

Midori froze. The confident grin on her face faltered as her eyes darted down to the Poké Ball still sparking in her hand.

"...Define has," she said carefully.

Violet's eye twitched so hard it could've set off a Seismic Toss. "MIDORI!"

The Poké Ball blinked once—beep—twice—beep—then a blinding flash of light filled the room as a very large, very heavy, very confused Metagross materialized in the middle of the lab.

The floor cracked under its weight.

Ethan dove behind a table. "Why do all her sentences end in explosions or property damage?!"

Kitsu's Flareion tails puffed up like fireworks as she yelped. "You put a Steel-Psychic type inside an experimental unstable Poké Ball?!"

Midori, coughing through the rainbow smoke, waved her hands. "Okay, okay, nobody panic! It's just the energy field misaligning! It's totally fixable!"

Violet stomped her foot. "Midori, the last time you said that, Dad had to buy the League a new satellite dish!"

Metagross made a metallic grrmmm noise as its eyes flickered, scanning the chaotic scene. Then, without warning, it turned toward Noibat — who had fluttered onto Ethan's shoulder, trembling slightly.

The small Dragon Pokémon's eyes glowed faintly purple, and a pulse of energy shot through the air.

Midori's scanner on the desk went wild.

"Wha—That's… That's not Psychic, and it's not Dragon either! It's mixed energy resonance!"

Ethan blinked, shielding Noibat. "What does that mean?"

Midori's grin slowly returned, more fascinated than ever. "It means, little brother… your Noibat's Energy Core isn't just Dragon Type."

Violet's eyes widened. "You mean… it's hybridized?"

Midori nodded. "Yeah. Whatever those smugglers were doing underground—your Noibat was altered."

Noibat chirped softly, eyes glowing a faint violet-blue.

Ethan frowned, a protective hand hovering near his tiny partner. "Altered or not… it's still mine."

Kitsu smiled proudly. "That's my brother."

After a few minutes, the twins arrived back to Violets room after she rained in Midori

Violet adjusted her glasses and gave one final glare toward the hallway — just in case Midori tried anything again — before turning back to her younger siblings.

"Alright," she said, flipping open her notes. "Let's talk about Natures and Abilities."

Ethan leaned forward, interested again now that explosions weren't involved. Kitsu sat beside him, notebook open, pen ready.

Violet smiled at their focus. "Every Pokémon is born with an innate emotional pattern that influences how their Energy Core develops. That's what we call their Nature. Think of it like a personality blueprint — it doesn't just affect behavior, but how efficiently their energy flows."

She wrote on the chalkboard:

Adamant = Stronger physical energy flow.

Modest = Stronger special energy flow.

Timid = Faster energy reactions.

Calm = Stable defensive field.

"Some trainers ignore this, but professionals know that Nature alignment can make or break a battle. It's why Dad's Salamence fights differently than Grandpa's — their energy flows are opposite types."

Ethan tilted his head. "So… does that mean if a Pokémon's nature changes, their power can too?"

Violet nodded. "Exactly. It's rare, but possible. Intense emotional events or exposure to certain energy fields can rewrite a Nature partially — that's part of what researchers call Resonance Mutation."

Kitsu raised a brow. "Like Noibat's mixed energy?"

Violet blinked, tapping her pen. "…Yes, actually. That might explain its unique reaction earlier."

She turned the page. "Now, Abilities are different. They're like an extension of a Pokémon's instinct — a built-in way their Energy Core interacts with the world. Some are passive, like Intimidate or Levitate, while others are reactive, like Speed Boost."

Ethan leaned back. "So… Nature's the personality, Ability's the instinct?"

"Exactly." Violet smiled. "You're catching on fast."

Kitsu grinned at her brother. "He's been doing that since he was two."

Ethan chuckled awkwardly, rubbing his neck. "Yeah, well… I try to keep up."

Ethan looked at his sister as he thought. "This world really is different from the previous timeline, in my old world a lot more Numbers where involved, but this one it's a lot more".

Ethan then looked at her as he spoke. "So, what about, Hiddien Ability".

Voilet stopped as she spoke. "Wait, how do you? I didn't even start that lesson".

Ethan screamed in his head. "You dumass, what happened to not letting your past life knowledge out, ok say this".

"I read in one of your books, I am confused a bit, like how do they work" He said.

Voilet Decided not press it as she continues. " Hidden Abilities—what we call Locked Abilities—are special traits every Pokémon species can have. They're basically an ability sealed inside the Pokémon's Energy Core. We use an Ability Patch to unlock them, but only when the Pokémon is strong enough.

For example, Infernape's "Iron Fist" can't be accessed when it's just a Chimchar or Monferno. It only unlocks once it fully evolves, because the ability would overwhelm the earlier forms"

Kitsu looked at her as she spoke. "so, like once a hidden ability is unlocked does it replaced the main ability?".

Violet gave her a Gental smiles as she spoke. "No—they always work together. A Pokémon's Primary Ability and its Locked Ability activate side by side. That's why they're so powerful and sometimes dangerous

Still, a lot of times it's better to stick with a Main Ability. Some Hidden Abilities are too situational, or not worth the risk. And then there are… exceptions".

"Exceptions?" Ethan asked in Puzzlement

Voilet sighed as she pinched the bridge of her nose. "Like a certain Dark/Fire cat from a certain region. Its Hidden Ability is so infamous that every single trainer unlocks it. And yes—it gives me a headache every time."

Violet leaned back in her chair, rubbing her temple as if just thinking about that particular Pokémon caused her brain cells to burn out.

Kitsu tilted her head innocently. "Wait, which one?"

Ethan couldn't help but smirk. "Let me guess… Incineroar?"

Violet groaned. "Exactly. That blasted 'Intimidate' stacker. Every single one of my classmates in the Academy used it. You'd think a world full of dragons and psychic gods would make people more creative—but nooo, they all went for the Fire Wrestler Cat."

Kitsu giggled, picturing a bunch of students dramatically posing with their Incineroars.

Ethan sweatdropped. "Sounds like your academy was chaos."

"You have no idea." Violet sighed, setting her pen down. "But that's the point—Hidden Abilities can completely reshape how a Pokémon fights. Some change energy flow, others rewrite instincts entirely. In the wrong hands, they can even cause personality fractures in the Pokémon itself."

Kitsu's eyes widened. "Wait—they can do that?"

Violet nodded seriously. "Rare, but yes. A Pokémon's Ability is tied to its soul resonance. If it awakens one too early, it can distort that bond. That's why Ability Patches are regulated—you need a Professor's clearance to even use one."

Ethan hummed, staring at the Noibat perched on his shoulder. The tiny dragon yawned, its purple eyes glowing faintly for a moment.

Violet noticed and blinked. "Hmm… that Noibat's aura feels… odd. Almost like it's fluctuating between two energy frequencies."

Kitsu tilted her head. "So… like a dual Ability?"

Violet frowned. "No… more like it hasn't decided which one it wants yet."

Ethan tried to play it cool, even though inside he was reeling. "Guess Noibat's just special."

Violet gave him a thoughtful smile. "That's one word for it. Keep an eye on that one, Ethan. It might surprise you."

Ethan chuckled nervously, rubbing the back of his neck. "Yeah… it already has."

Voilet pulled out a red divice, it looked slick, but also janky, as she pressed a button as a very robotic voice came out

Ethan eyas wident as he spoke in his head. "Is that a Mark 2 Pokedex".

Ethan remember seeing this in his past life, in Elm lab, something about it being an old model, back then he didn't pay much attention.

Voilet looked at Noibat as she sighed. "Looks like it has Its Hidden Ability Unlocked, in other good News it's ability is Infiltrator"

Violet adjusted her glasses, watching the old Pokédex's holographic display flicker to life. The screen projected a rotating image of Noibat, with lines of data streaming beside it.

Species: Noibat

Type: Flying/Dragon

Ability Detected: Infiltrator

Hidden Ability (Unlocked): Telepathy

Secondary Signature: ??? Energy Pattern Irregular — Recalibrating…

Violet frowned as the device started to buzz, the hologram flickering between purple and blue before freezing entirely.

"Ugh, great. It's doing that thing again…" She smacked the side of the Pokédex, which let out a protesting beep before the screen stabilized.

Ethan leaned forward, pretending to just be curious, though his heart was pounding.

("Telepathy and irregular energy? That's not normal… even for a shiny Noibat…")

Kitsu blinked in awe. "So, it can talk to other Pokémon without sound?"

Violet nodded. "Essentially. 'Telepathy' allows it to communicate directly through thought. That's an extremely rare Hidden Ability, especially in Johto. But…" —she squinted at the screen again— "…this secondary energy signature doesn't make sense. It's not matching any of the core types. Not Dragon, not Flying, not even Psychic."

She tapped a few more buttons; the Pokédex emitted a faint hum as it tried to analyze the reading.

[Warning: Unknown Energy Detected — Resonance Unstable.]

The room went quiet for a second.

Kitsu's eyes widened. "Unknown… energy?"

Ethan forced a chuckle. "Maybe it's just because it's shiny? You know, rare coloring, weird readings?"

Violet hummed, not convinced. "Maybe. Or… it could be a mutation caused by exposure to an unnatural energy source—radioactive fields, Legendary residue, Ultra Wormhole activity, or even—"

She stopped herself mid-sentence, realizing she was starting to ramble in front of kids.

Ethan blinked innocently. "Or even what?"

Violet smiled faintly and shook her head. "Nothing. It's just speculation. I'll record the data for now—don't worry, little Noibat's healthy. If anything, it might just be ahead of its natural evolution curve."

Kitsu sighed in relief. "That's good!"

Ethan scratched his cheek, smiling nervously as Noibat fluttered onto his shoulder again, nuzzling his neck.

("Ahead of its evolution curve, huh? Or maybe… something else woke up inside it.")

Violet typed a few notes into her logbook. "Still, I'll keep monitoring that energy. If it keeps fluctuating, I might want to run a core-stability check later. With Dad's permission, of course."

Ethan mentally groaned. ("Great. The last thing I need is another adult poking around my weird energy signature Pokémon.")

Violet returned to jotting down her notes as the faint hum of the Pokédex faded. The air in the library felt still again—too still.

Ethan glanced at Noibat perched on his shoulder, its violet eyes glowing faintly in the dim light.

He smiled, but that same strange warmth pulsed faintly in his chest once more, echoing the energy in his Pokémon.

"…Yeah," he whispered to himself. "Definitely not normal."
