Chapter 729 - Chapter 729

Garp strode across the training ground with heavy, deliberate steps.

Each footfall struck the earth with a dull thud, almost like the beat of a war drum, as he headed toward the man who had been standing quietly off to the side.

Bogard.

The swordsman had followed Garp for years, always present like a loyal shadow.

"Bogard."

Garp raised his head and fixed his subordinate with a serious look.

The booming, carefree tone he normally used was gone.

What remained was the voice of a commander giving an order that would not be questioned.

"Mr. Garp."

Bogard immediately straightened.

He had already noticed the unusual weight surrounding his superior.

There was expectation in Garp's expression.

Responsibility.

And beneath both, a worry deep enough that Bogard knew better than to treat this as an ordinary conversation.

Garp lifted one enormous, calloused hand and pointed toward Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji.

Those hands had survived countless battles, every scar and rough patch carrying traces of the life he had lived.

"I'm leaving those three brats to you."

Garp's voice was firm.

"Train the hell out of them."

"Their potential goes far beyond what they've shown so far, so don't you dare go easy on them."

His eyes burned with expectation.

It was almost as though he were entrusting Bogard with all the training and guidance he himself would no longer be able to provide.

There was no room for negotiation.

Bogard drew in a deep breath.

Then he nodded heavily.

"Understood."

His gaze shifted toward the three young men.

"As long as they can still get back on their feet, the training won't stop."

His answer rang across the field.

Garp gave a small nod.

That was enough.

He trusted Bogard completely.

After all the years they had spent together and everything Bogard had proven at his side, Garp had no doubt that if he placed something in the man's hands, it would be handled properly.

So he said nothing more.

He even softened his footsteps as he turned away, unwilling to interrupt the three young men still immersed in their training.

Then, in one practiced motion, Garp reached back and pulled his Justice coat properly over his shoulders.

The heavy fabric settled behind him.

He straightened to his full height and began walking toward the Marine warship waiting near the shore.

His steps were slow but unwavering.

Every one of them felt like another step away from the peaceful life of Foosha Village and back toward the brutal world waiting beyond it.

The sea wind whipped through his graying hair.

It caught the hem of his Marine coat and sent it snapping behind him like the opening notes of a battle anthem.

The broad face that normally carried an easy grin was now as grim as the sea before a storm.

Garp knew exactly what waited for him.

Marine Headquarters was a disaster.

Its surviving officers were struggling to hold together a shattered institution.

The World Government was applying pressure from above.

The God's Knights had stepped openly into the conflict, casting an ominous shadow over everything.

And beyond all of that—

Sabo's life now hung in the balance.

Compared with the quiet of Foosha Village and the sight of those three idiots growing stronger every day, the outside world seemed almost unreal.

For a brief while, this place had felt like a dream.

A peaceful interruption before reality came calling again.

But Garp could no longer remain inside that dream.

He had to return to the world of blood, war, duty, and impossible choices.

Before long, the warship began moving.

Its hull slowly pulled away from the tranquil shoreline of Foosha Village.

Garp stood alone at the bow.

He did not look back.

His gaze remained fixed toward Marineford.

Toward the place where the next storm was already gathering.

No one aboard the ship could guess what thoughts were raging beneath his silence.

Duty to the Marines.

His own belief in justice.

Concern for his comrades.

And Sabo.

All of it had become hopelessly tangled together.

The sunlight remained bright over the village even after Garp's ship had begun shrinking into the distance.

Yet as his broad figure disappeared farther out to sea, an unusual stillness settled over the training ground.

For once, Luffy did not shout after him.

He did not complain that his grandfather had suddenly left without saying anything.

He did not make a scene.

Instead, he walked quietly toward the enormous boulder Garp had thrown at him during training.

His steps were unusually steady.

When he reached it, Luffy slowly raised both hands and touched the deep fist mark carved into its surface.

The indentation was unmistakable.

A simple reminder of Garp's monstrous strength.

But to Luffy, it seemed to carry something more.

Something his grandfather had left behind without putting it into words.

...

Luffy slowly traced his fingers along the outline of the fist mark embedded in the boulder, feeling the sheer power that had been left behind in that deep indentation.

Something hot stirred in his chest.

Then he turned toward Bogard.

For perhaps the first time, Luffy looked at the swordsman with complete seriousness.

There was none of his usual carefree laughter or childish mischief in his eyes. In their place was a calm determination that seemed strangely out of character on someone as naturally reckless as him.

"Uncle Bogard."

Luffy's voice was not loud, but there was no uncertainty in it.

"I'm going to get stronger."

He stared straight at the man before him.

"And until I can really beat you, I'm not leaving this place."

There was no mention of distant adventures.

No talk of sailing the Grand Line.

Not even his dream of becoming the Pirate King.

For now, all of those things had been pushed aside.

Luffy had only one goal.

Get stronger.

Then defeat the powerful man standing in front of him.

And as for the companions he had lost—

he would bring them back himself.

Beneath the brim of his straw hat, Luffy's eyes gleamed like newly sharpened blades.

Sanji flicked open his lighter.

Click.

A small flame sprang to life and lit the cigarette between his lips.

"You really do get fired up over the weirdest things, don't you?"

He inhaled slowly, then exhaled a thin stream of smoke into the air.

His gaze shifted briefly toward Luffy.

There was trust there.

But also the stubborn refusal to be left behind.

Then Sanji looked toward Bogard, whose true strength still seemed impossible to measure.

He snapped his lighter shut and slipped it back into his pocket.

"As the cook, there's no way I'm losing to some reckless idiot of a captain."

His expression sharpened.

"I've got my own reasons for refusing to back down."

Zoro said nothing.

He simply raised Wado Ichimonji and clenched its hilt between his teeth.

His other two swords came free from their sheaths in the same motion, cold steel flashing beneath the sunlight.

That was answer enough.

Three pairs of eyes locked onto Bogard.

Luffy's burned with raw determination.

Sanji's were sharp and unwavering.

Zoro's carried the fierce hunger of a swordsman who refused to accept defeat.

Bogard stood calmly before them with one hand resting on his sword.

He accepted the sudden change in their demeanor without moving an inch.

For the briefest moment, the corner of his normally expressionless mouth seemed to rise.

Almost imperceptibly.

"Good."

His voice remained as calm as ever.

But the presence surrounding him began to change.

The power he had kept buried until now slowly emerged, like a blade beginning to slide free from its sheath.

Bogard narrowed his eyes.

"If your determination really is that strong…"

His fingers settled around the hilt of his sword.

"…then show me how far it can carry you."

The last word had barely left his mouth.

His sword had not even fully left its sheath.

It merely trembled.

BOOM!

A terrifying wave of sword pressure erupted across the training ground.

Unlike Garp's overwhelming but casual displays of brute force, Bogard's pressure was sharper—far more concentrated, refined into something that felt like an invisible blade sweeping across the entire field.

The air itself distorted beneath it.

Visible ripples spread outward as the ground trembled.

Luffy, Sanji, and Zoro all changed expression at the same instant.

It felt as though an entire ocean had risen above them and was crashing down with enough weight to flatten everything beneath it.

Their bodies tensed instinctively.

Breathing became difficult.

Every muscle screamed beneath the pressure.

Yet none of them showed fear.

Instead, the light in their eyes burned brighter than ever.

Luffy gritted his teeth and forced his feet beneath him.

Sanji lowered his center of gravity and steadied himself.

Zoro tightened his grip on all three swords.

Step by step, they resisted the crushing pressure until all three managed to plant themselves firmly on the ground.

Then they raised their guards.

Ready to fight.

Bogard watched them in silence.

And just like that—

a new round of training began.

One far harsher than anything they had endured before.

Their real hell training had only just started.
