Chapter 308: The Descent of Angels (V)

A squad of white-robed clergy surged past the two leaders, gripping their relics as they charged straight into the fog.

Unable to use holy arts, they had no choice but to fight at close range.

They seized brief openings, striking wildly at what they believed were the Scavengers' "weak points."

For a moment, the monsters were pinned down.

But those so-called weaknesses…

Were nothing more than wishful thinking.

Within seconds, the air filled with wet, tearing sounds.

Blood sprayed. Limbs flew.

Bodies dropped one after another.

Falco Medici glanced back at Rolcie.

Seeing that she still hadn't acted, he gritted his teeth and pulled out a cross from inside his robes.

It radiated an ancient aura—powerful, unmistakable.

Pain flickered across his face.

Then he activated it.

A hundred-year relic.

Earlier, it had been the Saulo family charging headfirst, while the Saddu family remained clustered around Rolcie.

In a situation like this, as a member of the Medici family, Falco had no choice but to act.

Otherwise, he'd be branded for dereliction of duty.

"Damn it… I should've let that idiot Hugh come instead," he muttered bitterly.

At the same time, a voice echoed in the minds of Calvis and Rolcie.

"Heh… hand over the fragment, and I'll let you live."

Neither responded.

"The evil spirit has already abandoned other regions—it's focused entirely here now. You really want to die here? As fellow humans, I'd hate to see that…"

Calvis's voice was icy.

"We do not negotiate with heretics."

Rolcie followed calmly,

"The Lord will guide us out."

"Heh… you think no one knows what you've done?"

Rolcie frowned slightly, forcing the voice out of her mind.

Not far away, Haggai was still struggling to break the barrier.

Progress was painfully slow.

Meanwhile, Falco's formation was already on the verge of collapse.

Rolcie turned to Calvis.

"We can't afford to lose too many people—not with that presence outside the gate, and the heretics waiting beyond."

"My people have confirmed it," Calvis replied.

"Conventional attacks won't kill them."

He looked at her.

"It's time you used that relic."

Rolcie sighed softly as she glanced at the corpses.

"As you wish."

She pulled out a glass vial.

Inside—

A pale blue mist.

She uncorked it.

The mist spilled out, shaping itself into the form of an old man.

After chanting an obscure incantation, the blue figure spread its arms—

—and embraced everyone within.

No matter how the Scavengers attacked—

They couldn't break through.

Rolcie smiled faintly.

"My talents aren't exactly suited for offense. The Saddu family can't compare to the Saulo family in that regard."

Calvis snorted.

"A Primordial Spirit Soul… You're willing to spend quite a lot."

Then—

He moved.

From his sleeve, Calvis produced a small knife.

Rust covered its blade.

The handle was wrapped in grimy cord.

Without explanation—

He threw it.

The knife rose into the air on its own.

In an instant, it flew toward the Scavengers.

A crimson glow erupted from its edge—

The surrounding mist dissolved rapidly.

And for the first time—

The Scavengers' souls became visible.

Bound by chains of fog.

Under the crimson light—

Both souls and chains began to disintegrate.

Rolcie narrowed her eyes.

"That power… the Holy Spear? But that relic is supposed to be on the Sacred Mountain… and it doesn't look like this."

She remembered witnessing it during the earlier attack.

Yet now—

The same power manifested through a crude knife.

Calvis offered no explanation.

Rolcie's thoughts churned.

Legend held that no single Sacred Family could fully control a relic.

Yet—

The Saulo family had broken that rule.

With the combined power of both relics—

The Scavengers were pushed into a disadvantage.

Outside the barrier, Mashal's expression darkened.

"Hypocrites."

He tried to push more power into the barrier—

But something went wrong.

The sky twisted.

Massive vortices opened.

Then—

Blood began to fall.

Not droplets—

A torrent.

The barrier trembled violently.

But instead of being blocked—

The blood seeped through.

Falling directly toward Calvis and the others.

Mashal's entire body trembled.

"My blood… they're using it?!"

He struggled to regain control.

Around him—

Heads began to fall.

One.

Then dozens.

A bald man with glasses.

A blonde girl with twin tails.

A dark-skinned woman…

Soon, the ground turned into a grotesque mire.

Mashal sneered.

"I won't die like this."

Green sludge spread across his body.

Inside the barrier—

The blood drenched the blue spirit.

Steam hissed.

The spirit grew thinner.

The knife was swallowed in red.

Within moments—

Both relics were contaminated.

"Damn it." Calvis narrowed his eyes.

The Scavengers roared again.

Chainsaws screamed.

He stepped back—

Then turned.

Rolcie had already grabbed Haggai.

"We're leaving."

Suddenly—

Bang!

A sharp explosion.

Blinding white light flashed.

The Scavengers staggered.

Rolcie turned—

Three figures emerged from the forest.

At the front—

A young priest in black robes.

Behind him—

Two figures who looked anything but human.

"A priest…?" Rolcie murmured.

Moments later—

Another object flew from the priest's hand.

Another explosion.

The Scavengers groaned again.

Two consecutive blasts—

Bought precious time.

Rolcie immediately let go of Haggai and rushed toward the young priest.

He clearly knew how to deal with Scavengers.

And the bag in his hand—

Was heavy.

Full of tools.

With the barrier still intact, escape was pointless.

This—

Was their chance to turn the tide.

Calvis reached the same conclusion.

On Gideon 's Side

After throwing the second stone seal, Gideon tapped Freddy Krueger on the shoulder.

"You've got this."

Then he grabbed Jason Voorhees and ran.

The text in his mind faded:

Flash Bomb — blinds Scavengers temporarily with light and sound

Firecrackers — creates a zone that blinds anything entering

Rare Tier-3 tools.

He had been saving them.

Originally, Gideon hadn't planned to intervene.

There were too many Scavengers.

Even with Jason and Freddy—

Victory wasn't guaranteed.

He only intended to toss a few items and distract them.

A small act of mercy.

But Jason had said—

The barrier's weak point was here.

And Gideon had seen it too.

Spirits were attacking a specific location.

Survivors were working on it.

And among them—

Haggai.

The man who had once taught him reverse formations.

That changed things.

So he acted.

He handed Luen to Bettice and the others.

Called Freddy back.

And stepped in.

Back to the Battlefield

Freddy stared blankly.

"…What?"

But before he could protest—

Gideon and Jason were already gone.

Calvis stepped forward, blocking their path.

"I am Calvis. You are now under my command. Stall them."

The two figures—

Didn't even slow down.

They brushed past him.

Calvis froze.

Ignored.

For the first time in his life.

Then—

Gideon tossed him the bag.

"Don't just stand there. Help out."

Calvis blinked.

"…Help out?"

The phrasing—

Made him sound like a lackey.

Unthinkable.

Rolcie arrived beside him, smiling faintly.

"If I were you, I'd listen."

"That man clearly knows what he's doing."

Calvis clenched his fists.

Just as he was about to chase—

Another figure approached.

Freddy.

He tipped his hat.

"Hey… don't just watch."

"These two are yours."

Calvis turned his head—just in time to see a roaring chainsaw tearing toward him.

He dodged sharply to the side, one hand already fumbling inside the cloth bag.

Rolcie snatched it away from him.

"Now isn't the time to be picky."

Without hesitation, she tossed him two stone seals.

At the same time, she couldn't help but feel a jolt of shock.

There were far too many Tier-3 seals inside.

Even a Sacred Family team like theirs had only managed to gather a little over a dozen.

Did that man rob an entire vault…? she wondered.

Meanwhile, Gideonand Jason Voorhees reached the designated spot.

"Gideon?"

A familiar voice called out.

"Long time no see. Taking a stroll?" Gideonreplied casually.

"A… stroll?"

Haggai twitched, glancing at the dozen or so relics scattered at his feet.

Using a high-tier Vatican relic, they had also identified this location as a weak point in the barrier.

Haggai had tried everything.

Nothing worked.

In the end, he resorted to constructing a reverse formation using lost relics—slowly eroding the barrier's power.

That was why Calvis hadn't been freely using relics in combat.

But because relics were suppressed here, the progress was painfully slow.

Like a snail crawling.

Haggai had already lost hope.

And yet—

Here stood Gideon .

"So… you're here to break the barrier too? And this is…?"

"Yeah," Gideon replied, narrowing his eyes as he pinpointed the final node.

Haggai began explaining his findings—

"The barrier's power is high-tier. Even weak points aren't easy to—"

BOOM.

The ground shook violently.

When the dust cleared—

A massive crack had torn open the crimson barrier.

Haggai's jaw dropped.

"I dealt with the spirits too."

Jason crooked a finger.

A hockey mask flew out from Gideon's robes.

Jason caught it—

And slowly placed it on his face.

Then—

He clenched his fist and slammed it into the ground.

"Crack… crack…"

The earth split open from beneath him.

The fissures spread rapidly outward.

From below—

A surge of heat erupted.

Molten lava churned beneath the surface.

Gideon frowned.

"What are you doing?"

Jason's voice turned cold.

"Our cooperation ends here."

He gestured downward.

"This is the prison the evil spirit prepared for its slaves. If you can't escape… you'll die here too."

Then, with a low chuckle:

"Priest Gideon… if you survive, come visit Crystal Lake sometime."

The ground beneath Jason collapsed.

He shot upward like a cannonball—

Straight into the sky.

Another explosion followed—

A vortex in the heavens was blasted apart.

And Jason vanished into it.

Haggai stared in shock.

"W-What… is that thing?"

"A Scavenger," Gideonsaid calmly. "We worked together for a while."

"Scavenger… cooperation…?"

Haggai struggled to process the words.

"Now's not the time for chat."

Gideon felt the surge of power within him.

The moment the barrier shattered—

Holy power returned.

Jason's sudden departure didn't concern him.

The man clearly had no intention of staying.

And right now—

There were bigger problems.

Gideon glanced ahead.

Freddy Krueger was still holding the line alongside two clergy members.

They were at a disadvantage—

But still standing.

The rising lava severely limited the Scavengers' movement.

Behind him, Bettice, Caroline, and the others had already guided the survivors closer.

Gideon raised a hand and pointed ahead.

There—

Lay the Final Gate.

At least Jason hadn't lied about that.

But before they could reach it—

A new threat appeared.

At the broken edge of the barrier—

A lone figure stood.

It wore a black hooded robe, embroidered with wing-like patterns.

From its sleeves—

Thick green slime dripped continuously.

"Zzz… zzz…"

The ground hissed and melted wherever the liquid touched.

Steam rose into the air.

The man stared at Gideon with pure hatred.

"It's you again…"

Haggai's eyes widened.

"It's him! The one who set up the sacrificial ritual in Philadelphia!"

Gideon smiled faintly.

"Still alive, huh?"

Mashal's fists clenched.

"You—"

He didn't get to finish.

Three glass bottles came flying toward him.

Each filled with powerful holy liquid.

Mashal was forced to dodge sideways.

When he looked up again—

Gideon was already gone.

The priest had sprinted straight back toward the battlefield toward the Scavengers.
