"Kane, Arya, and Alfa just went out, and they looked worried," Genevieve said to her mate.
"So?" Kane asked, still sitting on the chair by his bed.
"My love, I know you're upset, but your son is out there..."
"He would have told me if he needed my help."
"K, sweetheart, Arya's family hasn't ret...." "She insulted me! I don't give a fuck if she died..." Kane said, getting up abruptly, clearly upset about Kimberly saying all those things. It was because of her that he lost his seat in the council.
"Everyone thinks you're a monster. I know you're not anymore. Show them that you can be a bigger person by helping them." Genevieve held his hand in hers. "Don't do it for Kim. Don't do it for Arya. Do it for our son."
Kane saw the eyes he fell in love with. They still held that power. Genevieve was the most beautiful, most amazing person he had ever seen, and he still felt like it was the first time he had seen her.
She was also the one who always told him not to wage war on innocent packs, as one day, he would regret it, but he never listened.
The intoxication of winning a war was more than the best liquor could give. The way his pack members cheered for him and the fear in his enemies eyes were his mission.
"The more they fear you, the stronger you are. One day, this pack will belong to you, and showing mercy means weakness. Weakness means other packs rule over you. With the vampire lord Caspian on our side, we are unstoppable." Kane's father would tell him.
"K? What are you thinking?" Genevieve interrupted his thoughts.
She knew him all too well. She knew how he was raised and how he was treated by his father if he showed a little sympathy.
The difference between the father and son duo was that Flowerew was a master of deception. While Kane was straight forward.
Everyone knew Kane as a monster, but only if they had known the terrifying beast that raised him.
Flowerew was always known as the kind-hearted alfa who could do no wrong, an alfa who protected the less fortunate.
If only they knew who he truly was.
Genevieve also thought that Kane was a monster, an alfa not worthy of living... so much so that when asked about which werewolf, dead, or alive would she have killed, she named her own mate.
The shock on everyone's face was worth seeing, mouths gaped open, eyes so wide their eyes could fall off the socket.
Kane was even more shocked and heartbroken at her answer. It took months for her to gain his forgiveness.
"Love, you seem distracted," Kane said, moving closer to her.
"Remembered my first meeting with the council. I almost lost the most amazing person that the Goddess had sent for me," Genevieve said, leaning for a kiss.
Kane loved this move of hers. She always dominated in their bedroom, and she is the only person who was allowed to rule him; in his room.
He leaned in for a passionate kiss, then asked, "Which way did your son go?"
"He'd probably gone to the prison first."
Kane rushed out of the room and headed straight for the prison. He still thought that his son was alright, but a mother wouldn't rest until she was certain.
"Alfa and Luna?" He asked the prison guards. Although he was no longer the alfa, the pack held as much respect for him, as they did their current alfa.
"They walked into the forest," the guard replied, respectfully.
Kane turned to go when another guard called out, "Gerald, Alfa mindlinked for the beta and gamma and some other men. Somethings going... old alfa Kane? Sorry, I didn't see you there," The guard was white as a sheet.
"That's all right. What were you saying?" Kane waved it off, encouraging him to continue.
"Alfa mindlinked the beta, gamma, and their men to get to the forest. I think something is happening," he replied.
"Why do you think that something is happening?"
"Because alfa said that the guests are missing, and that servant girl had told alfa that luna is in danger, so Alfa thinks this could be a trap for the luna."
Kane stood there deep in thought. Then he said, "Steve, I need some men with weapons to come with me into the forest. I need weapons in case they run into some kind of trouble"
"Old alfa, the only weapon at hand are some grenades."
"They'll do just fine," Kane said, smiling.
Soon, he was running through the forest in his huge grey, brown wolf form, his old team following behind him.
Though the wolfs had retired, their sons taking over them, they still remained strong, and their bond with the alfa they served remains stronger.
Catching the scent of their Alfa, they ran through the forest, stopping at the mouth of a cave.
"What should we do now?" one of the wolf asked.
"We should wait. Wait and watch. Can we hear anything? Kane asked.
"There is talking. I think the luna is in danger... no... the Alfa is also in... my son! He's also in danger," replied the old beta.
They waited for some time, Kane studying the cave from outside. It was clear that whoever was inside was brilliant since trapping an alfa was close to impossible.
They kept eavesdropping on the conversation inside until they heard, 'You will get plenty of time in hell to get to know everything.'
That when Kane knew he had to act fast or lose everyone.
"Grenade, now," Kane said, gesturing towards the cave.
One of the man pulled the pin, and threw the grenade inside.
Boom.
Kane and his men remained outside, in case any of the goons came out. They waited patiently, and soon enough, the pack members ran out towards safety.
Alfa soon emerged, followed by Ronald, Trevor and Garry. Arya was the last to get out, followed by Pete who was carrying his wife, Kimberly, bridal style.
"Where's William?" Arya inquired, as soon as she reached outside.
"Luna, he was able to escape," one of the men said.
"Did someone go after him?" Alfa asked.
"No, Alfa. He simply disappeared before we could see him!" His beta, Sinclair replied.
Arya took a deep breath. Turning to Garry, she asked, "Garry, who was he?"
