"Hippogriff."
"Beautiful, isn't it? Majestic and mighty, like creatures from myths and legends—like griffins..."
Hagrid had prepared extensively for this class.
His tone excited as he introduced his new pet to students. The peculiar appearance—like various creatures stitched together—made Slytherins frown.
"Knockoff griffin?"
Blaise Zabini examined it carefully.
One of his stepfathers bore a griffin family crest. Such creatures symbolizing royalty were extremely rare. Even classified as mythological. But they did exist.
Lion and eagle combined. Plus massive, imposing body. True apex predators among magical creatures. Some Pureblood noble families even kept specimens.
Fur like golden silk. Still radiant despite years. Wings spanning seven or eight meters when spread. Gleaming with deep metallic luster.
Sharp, cold beast eyes like crystalline gems. Each griffin's pupil color different—dragon blood red, flame yellow, ice crystal blue, and more.
"Don't compare it to griffins, Blaise."
"That's an insult."
Theodore spoke flatly.
The Nott family once possessed two adult griffin specimens. Symbols of family glory and power.
Unfortunately, those precious assets were sold off by shallow-minded relatives.
He'd touched a griffin's wings once.
An unforgettable experience.
Though the thieving relative discovered him. Dragged him back to his room in fury.
Theodore didn't regret it.
Instead, a strange longing quietly sprouted in his heart. He yearned to become a griffin himself. Possess that unrestrained power and freedom to soar through vast skies. Even now...
As for the Hippogriff before them—it did look imposing. Curved, sharp beak. Long, sharp front talons. Perfectly displaying predator nature.
But compared to griffins? More like a malnourished dwarf. A clumsy imitator.
Especially that high-held head.
Made the snakes particularly uncomfortable.
Orange beast eyes slightly murky. Glossy fur gradually dulling in color transitions.
Dark gray, bronze, and pink mottled feathers—far from adding nobility, they looked like random patches. Awkwardly stitched on. Jarring and inferior.
Lion body versus horse body—
Worlds apart.
"It's proud."
"So don't offend it lightly. Even for adult wizards, that's not wise."
"We must be polite... Of course, if you want to approach it, first step—feed it some... Second step—bow to it..."
When Hagrid introduced the Hippogriff's diet, Slytherin snakes couldn't help snickering.
"Insects? Birds?"
"Rats? Ferrets?" Miss Pansy's face showed disgust. "So what exactly is it proud of?"
"Bow?"
"You want me to bow to it?"
Draco narrowed his eyes at Hagrid. As if asking what's wrong with you.
True beasts weren't bound by chains. Didn't feed on insects. Facing life-threatening danger, Slytherins could lower their heads. But not to just anyone.
Certainly not to this livestock.
Like Muggles might pray to hungry lions. But would never bow to snarling stray dogs. Even dangerous ones.
"If only it were a real griffin."
Blaise sighed somewhat regretfully. Then shrugged rather flippantly:
"I'd even crawl on the ground to kiss its toenails..."
Laughter erupted.
Seemingly sensing mockery from the crowd, the Hippogriff suddenly shook its neck. Sharp, angry screeches rang out. Wings spread abruptly.
Instantly—gravel and dead branches swept up by strong airflow. Splattered toward the Slytherins.
"No, no, Buckbeak."
"Calm down..."
Hagrid frantically gripped the chain. Continuously soothing the Hippogriff.
"Motherfucker!"
"Damn it, is it tired of living?!"
"Kill this bastard!"
Accompanied by angry curses, many snakes drew wands. Pointed at the Hippogriff.
Red light shot from wand tips.
Gryffindors stared dumbfounded at this scene. They'd thought last year's Slytherins were excessive enough. Didn't expect this year's volatility to completely exceed expectations.
"Calm down, calm down."
"Buckbeak's just a bit uncomfortable."
"It doesn't like being chained..."
Seeing Draco and others even draw revolvers—
Hagrid hurriedly blocked the Hippogriff. Several red beams hitting him dissipated as smoke. Stunning Spells had zero effect.
Half-giant magic resistance made Slytherins' eyes widen in surprise.
However, in that moment of stunned hesitation—the Hippogriff broke free from chains. Knocked Hagrid aside. Charged at Slytherins, attempting attack.
Facing the instantly approaching Hippogriff, Slytherins didn't panic. While scattering backward, they cast Transfiguration on the ground.
Dense profanity mixed with incantations.
Wand-tip light fell like rain.
Softened mud trapped the Hippogriff's hooves. Dead branch ropes tightly wound its horse body. But only delayed it momentarily.
Powerful wings beat wildly. Mud solidified and shattered. Sharp talons easily severed ropes.
Magic-breaking?
Theodore's pupils contracted.
Pansy and others quickly reacted.
"Everyone scatter! Dorm number order! Girls construct barrier frames, boys handle projectile strikes, anyone with guns—shoot this bastard!"
Magic-breaking? So what? Bulletproof?
Under Draco's gritted-teeth commands—
Snakes efficiently cast Lightening Charms on themselves. Drew revolvers while skillfully using Levitation Charms to lift hunting ground stones and boards. Constructed layered, overlapping spike barrier frames in midair.
Dense obstacles instantly surrounded the Hippogriff. Blocked its vision. Prevented short-term breakthrough to the snakes.
Heavy stones rotated rapidly outside.
Intense gunfire erupted continuously.
Pained, angry screeches came from above. Orange-red beast eyes overflowed with wildness and fury.
The Hippogriff used front talons to split barrier frames. Charged out despite bleeding.
But next second—
Whistling stones slammed heavily into it. Blasted it back into the encirclement.
Scalding blood spilled from above.
Broken feathers fluttered down.
Shattered barrier frames seemed alive. Rapidly reorganized. Sealed gaps seamlessly.
This consumption wasn't small for Slytherins. Just minutes—magic nearly depleted.
But the problem was—
Pureblood nobles lacked everything except money.
Potion bottles continuously smashing on ground—like hammering Ron's heart...
"No! No! Don't hit it!"
"Buckbeak!"
"Come down!"
Dense gunfire showed no sign of stopping.
Seeing the Hippogriff nearly unable to hold on, Hagrid had to push past Harry and others. Tried to stop Slytherin's attack.
But just then—
Familiar oppressive presence descended from above.
Terrified, shrill screeches abruptly stopped. Hagrid was also blasted away by Venom's sudden punch.
The half-giant's massive body traced a heart-stopping arc. Finally crashed heavily before Gryffindors. Raising dead branches and grass.
"Shh..."
Venom spat out a few feathers with some disgust.
The headless Hippogriff in its hand casually tossed aside. Then it raised an index finger before terrifying fangs. Grotesque, bizarre smile overflowing with cruel cunning.
"Tiger told me to kill whoever made noise. Dear friends, I'm guessing that's not you..."
The scene instantly quieted.
Draco and others nodded in unison. Unanimously hid their guns. Smiles very stiff.
Looking at the distant crowd—
Hermione quietly sighed. Pale fingertips gently stroked Tiger's slightly furrowed brow. Trying to smooth the irritation there...
