The father said, "Your mother is in heaven."
The little girl looked at her father with confusion. "Heaven. Is that a place we can visit?"
She asked with innocence and curiosity, and her father shook his head and went to grab her in his arms and sat down in a chair.
The little girl noticed the somber look on his face and knew something was wrong, but she couldn't understand what was wrong.
Her father said, "Someone who's in heaven can't speak to you anymore. They aren't here anymore."
Her father raised his hand across her heart. "This is what keeps us alive, and when the heart isn't beating any longer, she is not here with us anymore. I'm sorry, my sweet child."
Although the little girl couldn't sense the full meaning in his words, she felt a deep sadness, and she couldn't help crying.
Her father wiped the tears from her eyes. "Don't cry, my sweet child. Your mother wouldn't want you to be sad."
