Amir and Parks had just arrived on Floor 10 when they saw several researchers with five children, waiting for the elevator. Two stormtroopers were with them.
At this moment, the elevator was continuously transporting troops to the top floor and was in constant use. The researchers were getting bored waiting and could only flip through the test records in their hands over and over.
The five children were of various ages. The oldest looked to be twelve or thirteen, while the youngest looked only four or five. Heavy shackles were locked on their slender wrists, all chained together. Their exposed skin was covered in scars, and even scorch marks.
Amir tightened his grip on his lightsaber.
Five children? Why only five?
There should be six.
Just as Amir was trying to use the surrounding life Force to find the sixth child, the two stormtroopers spotted him.
They were too far away. It would take time for Amir to rush over, so he used the fastest method.
He snatched the blaster pistol from his belt. In less than a second, two shots were fired. The two stormtroopers had just reached for their blasters when holes appeared in their heads.
The children, frightened, all ducked down, covering their heads in panic. The researchers, seeing the two approach, began to shout for support. They abandoned the children and fled.
Amir stretched out his hand and gently pulled. The four researchers were pulled by the Force, flying in the opposite direction of their escape.
Their heads hit the ground. One of the researchers, in pain, opened his eyes, only to see a hand wave in front of his face.
"Tell me where the children's experiment data is."
The researcher's eyes went blank. He said calmly, "The latest data is on the datapad. The previous data is on the computer on Floor 101."
"There should be six children. Where is the other one?" Amir continued to ask.
"One test subject died today. Already sent to the waste pool."
Hearing this, Amir's eyes instantly turned red. The waste pool! He remembered standing in front of that bloody pit, seeing a corpse fall from the pipe! Just a short while ago!
Parks's face was like ice. He walked up, fired three quick shots, and killed the other three researchers with headshots. Then, suppressing his rage, he forced a smile, walked over to the children, and said, "Don't be afraid. We're not bad guys. We're here to save you."
As he spoke, he pried open one researcher's hand and took the datapad.
The children looked terrified. You say that, but you look terrifying!
Parks, seeing that explaining would take too long, said directly, "I won't hurt you. Follow me!"
Using a commanding tone, the children actually calmed down and stood in front of Parks.
Sighing silently, Parks looked at Amir, who had just finished off the last researcher.
"Their data..." Amir suppressed his emotions, speaking as calmly as possible.
"Going up is too far, and that's the central area. The defenses will be strong. We should go back directly." Parks saw Amir's idea of going to 101 to steal the data and said calmly.
"You go back and help Obi-Wan first. I'll wait for an elevator here. It'll be quick," Amir said.
Parks hesitated. The group of children they rescued on Coruscant hadn't fully recovered yet, precisely because they didn't have the complete data. They could only rely on that captured researcher to continue the experiment to keep them alive. He hated this situation. He was afraid the same would happen to these children.
But going up was too risky, with too many uncertainties.
"I'll run if there's danger." Amir had made his decision. He gave Parks one last reassurance and turned to look at the elevator.
Parks gritted his teeth, patted Amir's shoulder, and then grabbed the chain on the children's shackles. Without pulling, he said, "Follow me. I'll take you to a safe place, to find your families!"
The children, who had been full of vigilance, couldn't hold back their tears when they heard this. This was the deepest pain in their hearts. They remembered the last time they saw their parents. They couldn't remember how long ago it was, but they still remembered the warmth of their embrace, the words full of love, and their parents' pained and desperate faces as they were taken away.
Can we really see them again?
"Let's go!" Parks said again. The children, this time, all moved, following behind him, stumbling but determined.
Amir walked to the elevator. Climbing over a hundred floors will kill me. I have to rely on this.
The number above was 57, and it was ascending.
Amir directly used the Force, sensing the complex structure within the wall.
He wanted to try... if he could control this elevator with the Force.
He had tried to influence mechanical facilities with the Force many times before, but it was just flipping switches and the like. However, as his Force grew stronger, he gradually felt he could do more. He could "see" the fine circuits, see the gears turning, even see the flowing magnetic fields. He could change the trajectory of everything he "saw."
This not only required a high mastery of the Force but, more importantly, a detailed understanding of mechanics, a familiarity with internal structures, operating principles, and other knowledge.
And mechanics just happened to be Amir's specialty.
The Force flowed along the circuits, guiding, changing, and interrupting the direction of the current, tampering with the set procedures, making it follow his own thoughts. Sparks jumped from the wall, and the panel showing the floor number began to flicker.
Amir opened his eyes. The number on the panel, which had been increasing, suddenly stopped at 66.
Less than half a second later, the 66 flickered and changed to 65. Then, it began to descend continuously, more than twice as fast as it had been ascending.
Amir smiled. It actually works. Another new trick!
BD-4, on the backpack, was completely shocked.
The elevator descended all the way. As it approached Floor 10, it gradually slowed and finally stopped.
The valve opened. Five dizzy stormtroopers and Amir stared at each other. Then, they saw the ignited lightsaber.
The stormtroopers, facing this sudden disaster, forgot to resist. They were just taking an elevator to provide support. Who knew that after just a few floors, the elevator would go crazy and descend rapidly? The feeling of weightlessness made them think the elevator had crashed. They had just stopped, thinking they'd been spared, only to see a man with a weapon waiting at the door.
Amir felt no sympathy. His lightsaber slashed quickly. In the confined space, the stormtroopers had no room to dodge or counter-attack. Faced with the blade, they could only struggle and wait for death.
With a few piercing sounds, the elevator went quiet. Amir reached out and pulled the five corpses into the corridor, stacking them with the researchers.
Stepping into the elevator, Amir maintained his Force control, closed the doors, and the elevator once again ascended at high speed.
Amir set the target floor to 101.
