Lianhua and Yinxue moved toward that relationship with several nearby elites while the rest of the army continued advancing. Lianhua used Cloud-Sundering Steps to cross the outer pressure and force the nearest defenders to reposition, opening the formation relationship long enough for Voidpierce Sword Sutra to damage it. Yinxue followed through the weakened support with her own sword, and the connection failed before the station could redistribute the burden elsewhere. The elevated systems lost enough power that the Celestara cultivators above the road could drive the remaining ranged defenders away without requiring the coalition to halt beneath them.
Lianhua and Yinxue returned to the moving formation rather than entering the station. The structure remained standing behind them with most of its equipment intact, but its ability to interfere with the current march had been removed. By then the demons elsewhere in the stronghold had begun understanding that the coalition's turn was permanent, but none had closed enough distance to influence the main body.
The third major road contained more demonic soldiers because several companies had reached the intersection from different directions while trying to respond to the changing reports. They had not arrived together or established a prepared defense, and the appearance of the coalition forced them to turn separate movements into one battle before their officers had finished placing them. The coalition pressed directly through the incomplete center.
Blue Sphere cultivators carried the first collision while Pyrelith fighters concentrated attacks into the places where multiple demon groups compressed around the same stretch of road. Marephoros support disrupted the side approaches enough to prevent incoming companies from joining the central defense at full speed, leaving the demons to fight in pieces rather than as the larger force their combined numbers might otherwise have created. Xiangyin remained inside the same forward pressure, while Yanfei used Frostfire against one damaged side road where another company was trying to force itself into the coalition's flank.
Haotian, Lianhua, Yinxue, Yueru, Ziyue, Xiangyin, and Yanfei remained with the leading body rather than separating into different fights. When a demonic officer with several elites tried to establish a stronger center around himself, Haotian moved against that point because it was beginning to slow the Blue Sphere formation. The officer's heavy polearm required space to build power, and Haotian entered before the man could secure that space, deflecting the first broad strike and driving Seraph Shatter Palm into the defensive layer around his chest.
The officer absorbed enough of the first impact to remain standing, but the force drove him back into the elites surrounding him. Lianhua and Yinxue prevented those cultivators from closing around Haotian while Yueru and Ziyue pressured the formation node the demons were trying to bring online beside the road. The mixed teams continued moving through the same area, and the officer gradually lost the room he needed to restore the defense he had intended to create.
He withdrew with the rest of the companies once the intersection could no longer be held without becoming trapped. As soon as the central road became usable, the leading formations resumed their march and the deeper legions followed through the ground the demons had abandoned.
The upper sections of the front-defense towers became visible above the surrounding structures not long afterward. They were larger than the towers the coalition had encountered through the interior, built to dominate the exterior approaches to the gates and support systems designed around an enemy outside the walls. From the direction Haotian was approaching, their alignment revealed how much of their strength depended upon relationships extending away from the coalition rather than toward it.
Tianlan remained with the forward-middle formations and watched the towers rise above the rooftops while the two Frost Rainbow Falcons stayed close to the Celestara cultivators overhead. Neither bird was sent ahead into the front-defense district because Haotian had not yet examined the formation relationships there closely enough to know which elevated spaces were safe.
The Umbrel reports became more frequent as the roads converged around the rear of the front district. Local defenders were beginning to turn inward, and some soldiers from nearby interior roads were moving toward the towers and command structures after finally receiving reliable information about the coalition's direction. Those movements were local and hurried rather than part of a stronghold-wide response, because the coalition had crossed most of the distance before the information became clear enough for the front district to act on it.
Xuanyin moved nearer the leading half of the army once the final approach shortened. "The groups following from behind are still several roads away. They will not reach our rear before we enter the front district unless we stop."
"We are not stopping for them," Haotian said.
"The local defenders are beginning to turn their formations inward."
"They can move the soldiers already there. They do not have enough time to rebuild the entire front-defense system around an attack from inside."
The coalition crossed the final broad interior road without clearing the neighboring streets, allowing several demonic groups to hurry toward the front district ahead of them rather than fighting those same soldiers in the open. By the time the army entered the rear approaches to the front-defense district, the clockwise sweep lay several districts behind them and the forces that had finally begun following were too distant to influence what came next.
Haotian slowed the leading formations only after they entered the rear approaches. The army had crossed the interior quickly enough to preserve the advantage created by the sudden change in direction, and there was no reason to waste that advantage by attacking the first visible tower or barrier before understanding how the district worked. Xuanyin therefore spread the leading formations only far enough to secure the roads immediately behind Haotian while the deeper legions continued closing the distance.
The front-defense district occupied considerably more space than most of the interior military areas the coalition had already crossed. Broad roads led toward the main gates, defensive towers stood at intervals designed to command the ground outside the stronghold, and several elevated platforms faced the exterior approaches rather than the streets behind them. The thickest barrier relationships ran along the walls and the gate structure itself, while the roads, maintenance areas, and command systems feeding those defenses extended deeper into the stronghold.
Haotian remained near the front of the leading legion and allowed the Dao of the Universe to spread carefully through the district. He followed the relationships connecting one structure to another, beginning with the systems nearest the coalition and tracing how power, commands, and formation support moved toward the gates. The network was more complex than anything they had crossed during the march, yet much of that complexity served a straightforward purpose: concentrate the district's strength against an army approaching from outside.
Several towers could turn individual weapons inward, and some barrier systems could be adjusted to protect structures from attacks originating inside the stronghold, but those changes did not reverse the entire front-defense network. The strongest firing relationships still depended upon exterior targeting zones, while the heaviest barriers remained tied to the walls, gates, and ground beyond them. Local defenders were already moving companies onto the internal roads and redirecting whatever systems could be turned in time, but they were working within the design of a district that had never been intended to fight a major army approaching from behind.
Xuanyin remained beside Haotian while several officers updated the map with information from the Umbrel scouts. "They are concentrating soldiers around the internal roads instead of the gates themselves. How much of the front-defense network can they redirect against us from this side?"
"Enough to hurt us if we attack without understanding the system," Haotian said. "They can turn some weapons and reinforce individual structures, but the main formation relationships still face outward. I need to identify the systems that let the district function as one defense before we commit the legions."
Xuanyin looked toward the western towers, where several weapon mounts had already begun turning away from the exterior. "Then I will hold the leading formations here until you finish. We do not give them time to prepare more than they already have, but we also do not enter before we know what actually needs to be destroyed."
The Umbrel scouts remained close to the coalition now rather than moving deeply into the district. Their task was limited to the surrounding roads, visible troop movements, and any side route through which a large demonic group might reach the coalition before the attack began. Celestara cultivators maintained control over the space above the army instead of challenging the taller defensive towers by themselves, while the Frost Rainbow Falcons remained with Tianlan and the Celestara formations.
Tianlan studied the towers from the forward-middle formations before moving close enough to speak with Haotian. "These formations are much denser than the ones we crossed inside the stronghold. If they were built to face outward, can the towers still attack us effectively from this side?"
"Some of them can," Haotian replied. "Their weapons may turn, but their strongest firing patterns, barriers, and formation relationships were built around the exterior battlefield. That does not make them harmless from behind, but it means they cannot bring the full front-defense system against us the way they could against an army outside the walls."
Tianlan looked from the towers toward the internal support structures. "Then we need to reach the systems feeding those defenses before they can redirect more of them inward."
"That is what I am looking for."
Haotian continued tracing the formation relationships until one concentration beneath the center of the district became increasingly difficult to ignore. It originated beneath a broad command platform positioned high enough for officers stationed there to observe much of the front-defense area, but the visible platform was only the surface expression of a much larger system. Formation lines descended through its foundation and spread outward toward gate defenses, tower systems, command relays, and several points supporting the exterior barrier network.
The platform did not provide all of the district's energy, but it coordinated how many separate structures shared power and information. When one exterior barrier required more support, the relationships beneath the platform could redistribute energy toward it, and when firing systems needed information from another section of the walls, the same network allowed those structures to operate as parts of a larger whole rather than isolated towers. Haotian narrowed his perception beneath the visible platform and found that the most important relationships passed through buried supports under the foundation rather than through the structure above.
Xuanyin noticed where his attention had settled. "What did you find beneath the command platform?"
"The platform coordinates much more of the district than the structure above suggests," Haotian said. "The important relationships are beneath its foundation. If we destroy those supports, the gates, towers, and local formations will still have their own systems, but they will lose much of their ability to function together as one defense."
Xuanyin marked the platform on the map. "Then we treat the supports beneath it as one of the primary targets. Breaking coordination first should make everything else easier."
Haotian shifted his perception toward the eastern side of the gates and followed another dense relationship buried through layers of reinforced stone. At first it appeared to be part of the gate foundation alone, but the deeper lines showed that it reinforced part of the eastern gate, supplied defensive barriers along that side, and distributed force through the foundation whenever the entrance absorbed attacks from outside. Because the system was buried directly beneath the gate complex, the demons could not easily move or replace it once the coalition reached it.
The western side used a different arrangement. Rather than mirroring the eastern foundation exactly, much of its support ran through one of the larger defense towers positioned farther from the gate. That tower connected elevated attack formations, wall defenses, and part of the western gate district through several heavy relationships running beneath its base. Destroying the tower would therefore do more than remove one firing position; it would break a substantial part of the western support network at the same time.
Haotian compared the three systems repeatedly through the Dao of the Universe before drawing his perception back enough to maintain awareness of the district around him. The central command-platform supports coordinated the network, the eastern gate-foundation system carried much of the eastern defensive burden, and the western tower supported the opposite side. Many other structures remained dangerous, but these three gave the front-defense district the cohesion that allowed its separate parts to behave like one integrated fortress.
Xuanyin waited until Haotian finished examining the relationships. "Have you identified the systems we need to destroy?"
"Three of them matter more than the rest," Haotian said. He indicated the central platform first. "The support relationships beneath that platform coordinate the major front systems. If they fail, the district becomes much harder to control as one defense. The gate foundation on the eastern side supports the barriers and part of the gate itself, so we destroy it before trying to force the entrance."
Xuanyin followed his attention toward the western tower. "And that tower carries enough of the western formation network that destroying it weakens the other side at the same time."
"Once those three systems are gone, individual towers and formations may still function, but they will have to operate independently. The gate will also lose much of the support that makes it difficult to breach from outside."
Xuanyin looked beyond the district toward the main entrance. "Then after those systems fail, we force the gates and continue directly out of the stronghold."
"We destroy the support systems, break the gates, and leave through the front. We are not capturing any of their controls or trying to operate Abyssal infrastructure."
That distinction settled the objective clearly enough that Xuanyin began turning Haotian's analysis into deployment orders. The leading mixed formations would enter the district as one body and prevent local defenders from concentrating around any single target, while Haotian and his family remained close enough to the spearhead to redirect their strength wherever the front opened first. Coalition elites would support them without ranging so far from the mixed legions that the demons could isolate them inside the dense defensive network.
The later legions would preserve the coalition's depth rather than crowding around the three objectives. Their role was to maintain the roads behind the spearhead, absorb whatever local demonic companies tried to reach the main battle, and keep a protected route open for the wounded and healer formations while the front systems were being destroyed. Once the gates opened, those formations would continue moving through the entrance instead of stopping inside the district and creating unnecessary congestion.
Shuyue stayed with the recovering formations for the opening stage of the attack, while Liora and the healers moved farther toward the protected center. Tianlan listened while Xuanyin distributed the assignments and then asked Haotian where he should remain once the leading formations entered the district.
"Stay with the forward body and work with the Celestara formations," Haotian said. "Do not move ahead of the legion to reach one of the targets on your own. The towers can still redirect some fire inward, so keep the Frost Rainbow Falcons within supporting distance until we know exactly how much pressure those systems can place on the airspace."
"I understand. I will keep them with Celestara until the front opens."
Lianhua studied the three marked targets after Xuanyin finished moving the formation markers. "Do you want the family divided between them before we enter?"
"No. We stay together through the first contact. Once the legions open enough space inside the district, we separate only as much as necessary to destroy the support systems. I do not want three isolated fights developing while the demons still have the front-defense network intact."
Yinxue looked toward the command platform. "That also means they will not know which structure we intend to reach first."
"They do not need to know the order before we are already moving through the district."
Xiangyin rested one hand along her spear shaft. "Then we advance with the legions, break the local defenders as part of the same push, and move toward whichever of the three systems becomes accessible first."
"Exactly. The army and the family remain one advance. We are not leaving the mixed legions behind while we fight separate battles around the district."
The demons had used the short delay to strengthen the internal approaches as much as their systems allowed. More soldiers now occupied the broad road leading toward the central command platform, several barriers had been redirected to protect structures behind them, and the western tower had turned additional firing mechanisms inward at the cost of part of its exterior coverage. The eastern gate system remained more rigid because its deeper relationships could not simply be reversed through local orders, leaving much of that side still oriented toward the exterior battlefield.
A final report from the rear reached Xuanyin while the leading companies completed their preparations. The demonic groups following the coalition through the interior had reached the second military road but remained several streets away from the district, slowed by the damaged crossings and broken routes the coalition had left behind.
"The nearest forces behind us are still too far away to join the front defenders before we begin," Xuanyin said. "The rear formations can handle them if they close the distance while we are attacking."
"Then keep the rear moving with the army. We do not delay the front because those forces finally found our route."
The leading formations arranged themselves according to the order in which they would enter the district, leaving enough room between layers for the front to absorb attacks without being driven backward into the companies behind it. Celestara cultivators adjusted above them, Umbrel scouts withdrew from the immediate approaches after delivering their final reports, and Veridian specialists marked only the underground routes beneath the district that could interfere directly with the advance.
Haotian extended the Dao of the Universe across the district one final time before the attack. The command-platform supports still coordinated the major systems, the eastern gate foundation remained tied deeply into the gate and barrier network, and the western tower continued carrying too much of the opposite side's defensive structure. The demons had moved soldiers and redirected weapons, but they had not changed the relationships that mattered.
"The three support systems are still connected the same way," Haotian told Xuanyin. "We move now, before they have any more time to redirect the district."
Xuanyin turned toward the commanders around her. "The leading formations advance together and maintain the rear roads as they move. Once the front systems are destroyed and the gates are open, every formation continues through them instead of stopping inside the district unless Haotian or I order otherwise."
Haotian moved toward the leading mixed formations with Lianhua, Yinxue, Yueru, Ziyue, Xiangyin, and Yanfei around the same forward body rather than spreading them toward separate objectives. Tianlan remained several formations behind with the Frost Rainbow Falcons and the Celestara groups, while Shuyue stayed among the recovering teams farther back. The coalition had crossed the stronghold before the demons could prepare the front district for an attack from behind, and Haotian now knew exactly which systems had to fail before the main gates could be forced.

The demons had concentrated most of the available soldiers around the broad interior roads leading toward the central command platform. "Do not send anyone toward the tower yet," Haotian told Xuanyin. "Let them keep drawing power through the same relationships."
"The leading companies can hold this pressure for now," Xuanyin said. "I will keep Celestara on interference instead of committing them to the structure."
"That gives us more information without separating the army."
The demons on the central road attempted to stop the advance before Haotian reached the command platform. Their front line thickened as additional companies arrived from the surrounding structures, and several barrier formations came online behind them in an effort to create enough resistance for the ranged positions farther back to work. The preparation had been hurried, but the soldiers themselves understood the importance of the road and fought to keep the coalition outside the deeper portion of the district.

Blue Sphere cultivators absorbed the first collision while Pyrelith attacks passed through the openings between them and struck the denser demonic formations farther back. Veridian members inside the mixed teams watched the ground beneath the engagement for underground movement, while Umbrel cultivators remained close enough to prevent smaller groups from using side streets to reach the coalition's exposed edges.
Haotian moved with the pressure at the center rather than separating from it. Whenever a stronger demon attempted to hold enough space for the surrounding soldiers to stabilize, he entered that point long enough to break the position and then returned to the collective advance instead of turning the exchange into a separate duel. Lianhua, Yinxue, Yueru, Ziyue, Xiangyin, and Yanfei remained within the same forward body, reinforcing whichever section needed additional strength without dividing toward the three main objectives before the coalition had penetrated deeply enough to reach them safely.
The demons gradually lost ground because they were trying to build a fixed defense against an army that already possessed momentum. The two Frost Rainbow Falcons moved with the aerial formation above him, responding to targets that entered their established range rather than flying independently toward the towers. The coalition pushed through another section of the central road and finally entered the part of the district where the command platform became fully visible. Demonic soldiers filled the ground around it, but the structure itself remained intact, its upper level crowded with officers and formation specialists directing whatever parts of the network they could still control. Beneath them, the support relationships Haotian had traced continued distributing information and energy toward the western tower, eastern defenses, and several smaller nodes throughout the district.
Xuanyin looked toward the platform as the mixed formations secured enough width on the road for the deeper legions to continue entering. "We are close enough now. Do you still want the three systems attacked together?"
"As close together as we can manage. The central supports should fail first or at the same time as the others. Once coordination breaks, the western tower and eastern foundation will be harder for them to reinforce."
"Then I will keep the legions pressing the center while the family moves into position."
"Not yet. We need a little more room before anyone separates."
That space came gradually rather than through one decisive breakthrough. The coalition continued forcing the central defenders backward while the local companies tried to maintain enough contact to prevent the mixed legions from reaching the command platform freely. Several times the demons attempted to thicken one portion of the line by drawing soldiers from nearby roads, only to weaken another section enough for the coalition to press through it.
Haotian waited until the leading formations had secured enough ground that the family could move without leaving the spearhead unsupported. He then expanded the Dao of the Universe across the three critical systems again, checking for any changes caused by the fighting. The central command supports remained intact, the eastern gate foundation still carried the same major relationships, and the western tower continued drawing heavily upon its buried network while firing inward.
"The targets are unchanged," Haotian said.
Lianhua looked toward the central platform. "Which one do you want us to reach first?"
"The command supports. Once they begin to fail, we split only as much as necessary for the eastern foundation and western tower."
Yinxue looked toward the west. "Then the first opening needs to come through the center."
"We break their coordination before we attack the two sides."
Xiangyin adjusted her grip on her spear. "And the legions keep the defenders occupied while we move through the opening."
"That keeps the district from turning all of its remaining strength onto us at once."
The family remained with the mixed formations for another short stretch while the coalition pushed closer to the platform. Behind them, Xuanyin maintained the flow of the army into the captured space, keeping enough depth to protect the healers and wounded while preserving the rear route against any forces that eventually reached the district from the interior.
"The forces behind us are still outside the district," Xuanyin reported. "They will not reach us before we engage the platform."
"Then the rear maintains its current formation. Do not turn anyone back unless those forces actually reach us."
The coalition advanced another section of the road, and the command platform's lower structures finally came within practical striking distance. Haotian could now see the physical supports corresponding to several of the buried relationships he had identified through the Dao of the Universe. They were reinforced heavily enough that ordinary attacks against the visible structure would accomplish little, but the deeper formation connections beneath them were no longer protected by the same distance that had made them difficult to reach from outside the district.
The western tower continued firing, though its attacks had become less regular as Celestara interference and the demands of redirecting power inward complicated its targeting. The eastern systems remained more rigid, still preserving much of their exterior orientation even while nearby defenders tried to activate smaller internal barriers. Haotian compared all three one final time and confirmed that the central support network remained the best place to begin.
"We have enough room," he told Xuanyin.
"I will keep the legions pressing the defenders around the platform," she said. "Once you move, the front will widen only enough to prevent them from closing behind you."
"That is enough."
Lianhua, Yinxue, Yueru, Ziyue, Xiangyin, and Yanfei moved with Haotian toward the forward edge of the mixed formations. Shuyue remained deeper with the recovering formations for the moment, while Tianlan and the Frost Rainbow Falcons stayed within the forward-middle depth alongside Celestara. No one rushed ahead before the supporting companies were ready.
The demons around the command platform could see the family concentrating now, but understanding that something was about to happen did not give them time to change the structure beneath their feet. Their soldiers tightened around the central approaches, formation specialists poured more power into the barriers protecting the platform, and the western tower redirected another set of weapons toward the coalition's front.
Haotian watched those changes without altering his target. The support relationships beneath the platform remained connected, the eastern gate foundation remained dependent on its buried network, and the western tower remained tied to the same western structure. The front-defense district was still functioning as one system.
Haotian stepped forward with his family as the mixed legions pressed into the defenders around the command platform, bringing the coalition close enough for the first coordinated strike against the front-defense network.
