Chapter — Ancient Chaos
Kaosu's first punch never reached Karma.
The Escutcheon bent its path.
Kaosu smiled.
"Good."
Karma raised an eyebrow.
Kaosu punched the ground instead.
One crack appeared.
Then another.
A loose shard of stone shifted beneath Karma's heel.
The Escutcheon corrected it.
That correction displaced air.
The displaced air struck a broken piece of Raiyo's sword.
The fragment changed direction.
Karma tilted his head.
The fragment wasn't aimed at him.
It struck the ground behind him.
That impact altered a nearby fracture.
The fracture destabilized a buried layer of the Karmic Battlefield.
A violent eruption occurred beneath Karma.
He stepped aside.
That step positioned him directly inside Kaosu's next strike.
BOOM.
Karma blocked it.
But moved.
One inch.
Kaosu grinned.
"Got you."
Karma's smile disappeared.
Not from anger.
Recognition.
Kaosu attacked again.
Every missed strike created another consequence.
Every consequence seeded another.
Karma's Escutcheon corrected one threat only to strengthen the next.
Calamity fed itself.
Recursive.
Precise.
Intentional.
Karma stared at the red threads spiraling around his son.
"That technique..."
Kaosu's grin sharpened.
Karma's eyes narrowed.
"The precision. The way you force chaos into an intended conclusion rather than merely producing uncertainty."
Kaosu said nothing.
Karma looked genuinely unsettled now.
Not afraid.
Something more personal.
"Ancient."
Kaosu raised both fists.
Karma asked quietly, "Who taught you that?"
Kaosu smiled.
"Aoikishi."
Silence.
For the first time, Karma didn't immediately answer.
Then Kaosu vanished.
He struck from above.
Karma blocked.
Another Kaosu appeared from the left.
Then another.
Not clones in the ordinary sense.
Calamity manifestations.
Each one carried a separate cascading sequence.
Karma destroyed the first.
Its destruction increased the probability of the second landing.
He destroyed the second.
That consequence fed the third.
The third hit.
Karma slid backward.
Kaosu didn't let him recover.
His Chaotic Energy changed.
The red threads around him collapsed inward.
Then split.
Not into clones.
Into paths.
Voss stared.
"What's he doing?"
Raiyo coughed from the crater.
"Learning."
Kaosu could see every misfortune he'd created.
Not as possibilities.
As inheritance.
One accident carrying debt from the previous one.
Every calamity multiplying the next.
Kaosu clenched both hands.
"Advanced Technique..."
Karma's eyes widened slightly.
Kaosu smiled.
"Calamity Inheritance."
Every failed attempt against Karma became fuel.
Every deflected strike.
Every broken path.
Every correction made by the Escutcheon.
The Battlefield had been recording all of it.
Now Kaosu called the debt.
The next punch carried every denied consequence behind it.
Karma's Escutcheon screamed.
Reality bent.
Then bent harder.
The punch still came.
Karma caught it with both hands.
The ground vanished beneath them.
For the first time, Karma's arms shook.
Kaosu laughed through gritted teeth.
"What's wrong?"
Karma looked at him.
Kaosu shoved harder.
"Reality getting tired?"
Karma's expression slowly changed into delight.
"There you are."
He twisted.
Kaosu's arm broke sideways.
Then Karma drove a knee into his stomach.
Kaosu folded.
Karma grabbed him by the throat and threw him through several layers of the Battlefield.
Kaosu tried to stand.
His body refused.
He laughed anyway.
Karma walked toward him.
"You improved."
Kaosu spat blood.
"Understatement."
Karma smiled.
"Still arrogant."
"Genetic."
That actually made Karma laugh.
Then Yamiya stepped between them.
