Chapter 40 - CHAPTER 40: HOW I BECAME THE DEMON KING PART 5

Amber and Franklin sat on the ground, their backs against the cold stone wall, the weight of Lyra's ultimatum crushing them. Amber's tears had slowed, but her eyes still shone with a mix of fear and desperation. Franklin's gaze was fixed on some point in the distance, his mind racing.

Suddenly, a spark of determination ignited in his eyes. "Amber, I think I have an idea," he said, his voice low and urgent.

Amber turned to him, a glimmer of hope in her eyes. "What is it?"

Franklin took a deep breath. "We need to bring the others back. All of them. Frederick, Alexander, Lucas, Michael, Emily, and Sophia. They need to know what's happening, and they need to be here to help train Finn."

Amber's eyes widened as she processed the idea. "You want to summon them from the capital?"

Franklin nodded. "It's the only way. We need their help, and we need it now." He quickly scribbled six letters, one for each of his children, sealed them with his signet ring, and handed them to a waiting servant. "Take the fastest horse you can find. Reach the capital by dawn. Deliver these letters to Frederick, Alexander, Lucas, Michael, Emily, and Sophia. Tell them to return home immediately. It's of the utmost importance."

The servant nodded, taking the letters and disappearing into the night. Franklin watched him go, a sense of hope rising in his chest. With his children by his side, maybe – just maybe – they could face whatever Lyra threw their way.

Amber let out a slow breath, her eyes still fixed on the door where the servant had disappeared. "Do you think they'll come?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Franklin turned to her, his expression resolute. "They'll come. They'll do whatever it takes to protect Finn."

Amber nodded, a small nod, but it was enough to convey her agreement. "What do we tell Finn?"

Franklin's jaw cliked. "Not yet. We don't tell him anything yet. We need to make sure the others are here first."

Amber nodded, then asked, "What about Aria? She and Finn have become good friends."

Franklin's gaze drifted to the window, where the moon was rising over the castle walls. "Let's not worry her with this right now. She's still getting settled, and we don't want to burden her with our problems."

Amber's expression turned thoughtful. "You think Lyra's watching her?"

Franklin nodded, his eyes serious. "I'm sure she is. That's why we need to be careful. We can't let anything slip until we're ready."

Amber's eyes narrowed, then she asked, "Should we alert the elves as to what's going on?"

Franklin's face turned serious, his eyes clouding with concern. "No, not yet. We can't risk it. If Lyra finds out we've warned them..."

Amber's voice trailed off, but Franklin knew what she was thinking. If Lyra found out, it would be a declaration of war.

"Let's wait until the others arrive," Franklin said finally. "Then we'll decide what to do next."

Meanwhile Early the next morning asThe sun was just starting to peek over the rooftops of the capital city, casting a warm glow over the bustling streets. The servant, dusty and exhausted from his ride, stumbled into the courtyard of the grand estate where Frederick, Alexander, Lucas, Michael, Emily, and Sophia resided.

A guard stopped him, his hand on the hilt of his sword. "State your business."

The servant bowed. "I'm here on orders of Duke Franklin and Lady Amber. I bring urgent messages for their children."

The guard nodded, disappearing into the interior of the house. Moments later, he returned, followed by Frederick, Alexander, Lucas, Michael, Emily, and Sophia, all looking concerned and sleep-ruffled.

The servant bowed, holding out six letters, one for each of the siblings. "The Duke and Duchess sent these, my lords. They said it's of the utmost importance."

The siblings took their letters, breaking the seals and scanning the contents in unison. As they read, their expressions changed, ranging from shock to alarm.

Frederick looked up, his face grave. "We need to speak to the king. This is urgent. We need to return home as soon as possible."

The others nodded, already moving to gather their things, their faces set with determination.

Sophia shouted, "Frederick, wait! The letter says we shouldn't say anything. We need to make up an excuse."

Frederick's eyes widened, and he nodded. "Right. We'll tell the king Finn's ill. We need to go visit him."

The others nodded, adjusting their plans. They quickly gathered their things, their faces set with determination.

"We'll need to make it convincing," Alexander said, his voice low.

Lucas nodded. "I'll start packing. Emily, can you prep the horses?"

The siblings moved swiftly, their movements practiced and efficient. Frederick took a deep breath, composing himself. "Alright, let's go."

They made their way to the palace, their faces grave with concern.

At the palace, Frederick spoke to the king. "Your Majesty, we received word that our little brother Finn is ill. We'd like to go visit him."

The king's expression turned sympathetic. "Ah, I'm sorry to hear that. Of course, you must go. Take as long as you need. You'll be excused from duties until he's better – you'll still receive your usual pay. If the kingdom needs you, we'll call you back."

The siblings nodded, their faces somber. "Thank you, Your Majesty."

The king nodded kindly. "Go, take care of your brother."

"Damn it all, how dare that evil wretch threaten my little Finn like that! He doesn't deserve this. We need to get back home and just hug him and keep him safe and warm." Sophia said, her voice trembling with emotion.

The others nodded, their faces set with determination. They urged their horses on, their hearts racing with worry and anger.

"We'll get there, Sophia," Frederick said, his voice firm. "We'll protect him, no matter what."

The siblings rode in silence for a moment, their minds racing with thoughts of Finn and what they needed to do to keep him safe.

"I'm gonna kill Lyra," Alexander growled suddenly, his voice low and menacing.

The others shot him a look, but they knew he didn't mean it literally. Well, maybe they weren't sure . Either way, they were all thinking the same thing: they'd do whatever it took to protect Finn.

As they finally reached their destination, the siblings dismantled their horses and handed them off to the stable boys. Without a word, they headed straight for their father's study, their exhaustion and worry evident on their faces.

As they entered, they were met by their mother and father, who were having a cordial conversation. Franklin's expression changed the moment he saw his children, and he sprung up from his seat, embracing each of them warmly.

"My children, I'm glad you're home," he said, his voice filled with relief.

When the greetings were over, Franklin's expression turned serious. "I want to brief you on what's to come. I've spoken to your mother, and we've decided it's time we started training Finn in earnest. When he leaves for the Demon Realm, he needs to be prepared."

The siblings exchanged worried glashes, but nodded in unison.

"The next ten years will be the roughest time of Finn's life," Franklin said, his eyes grave. "He'll face challenges we've never faced, and he'll need all the strength and wisdom we can give him. That's where you come in."

Franklyn's gaze swept the room, his expression somber. "I want all of you to train him, to teach him everything he needs to know. He's got a hard road ahead, but with you all by his side, I think he might just make it."

The siblings nodded, their faces set with determination. They'd do whatever it took to prepare Finn for what was coming.

The room fell silent, the tension palpable, as a mocking laughter echoed from within the shadows. Suddenly, a hologram of Lyra materialized, sitting on a throne-like chair, her legs crossed and a sly grin spreading across her face.

"Well, well, how nice?" she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "I'm getting to see all my little grandchildren. How have you all been keeping?"

"Come! come! give your dear beloved grandmother or hug." She said with a mocking tone of voice.

The siblings' faces darkened with anger, their hands instinctively reaching for their swords. Franklin and Amber's expressions remained calm, but their eyes narrowed, warning their children to stay their tempers.

"What hostility you have against your own grandmother?" Lyra continued, her voice laced with feigned hurt. "Franklin Amber, I'm ashamed Of you both. You would have your children raise arms against their own grandmother. I'm hurt. I'm shocked."

Her words dripped with sarcasm, and the siblings' faces grew red with rage. Alexander's jaw cliked, Lucas's eyes flashed, and Emily's hands balled into fists. Sophia's voice was low and venomous. "You're not our grandmother. You're a monster."

Lyra's grin never wavered. "Oh, how touching. The little ones are growing up, and they're so... spirited."
