ROSS CAMERON
Ross leaned against the tree and watched people mill around the quaint little farm owned by Garrett and Natalie Hart. The orange, brown, and reds of autumn decorated the property; it looked like a scene captured on a picture postcard.
Clear blue skies offered good weather. Though it was unusually warm for late September, the air, crisp and cool, promised winter would soon arrive.
He glanced at his watch. Ellie would be here soon.
The party was in full swing. People danced, laughed, ate, and played games of Frisbee and tag.
He'd eaten a little and watched Susan a lot. She smiled at everyone but him. She'd avoided him all evening, ignoring his attempts to draw her into conversation. He felt edgy, restless. Nervous.
When Ellie showed up and blew this marriage business to hell, he'd feel better.
Ross found Susan easily in the crowd.
His stomach clenched as he looked at her. Her cheeks, flushed from dancing, enhanced the natural angles of her face.
