Her voice was bitter, unrelenting in its accusations. Ross felt a peculiar surge of anger and sympathy. "You don't know me," he said. "How can you judge me like that?"
"The same way you judged me," she responded. "I saw it in your eyes, Ross. Admit it, you thought some unflattering things about me."
The idea that he'd been unfair—hell, judgmental—hit him like a stone fist in the solar plexus. "You're right. But what am I supposed to think? My uncle is in love with someone else. Why would he marry you?"
"Thanks a lot, Cameron," she said, her lips quirking. Then she frowned. "What do you mean in love with someone else?"
"Elizabeth."
"George told me it was over," she replied. "Ellie hasn't spoken to him in months."
"It's obvious to me that my uncle still wants her. He explained about your agreement about extramarital affairs, but Elizabeth wouldn't indulge in an affair. I think she's stringing him along—teaching him a lesson."
