I bit the insides of my jaw while nervously waiting for him to come back. I knew he would but I couldn’t stop imagining the worse case scenarios. This was my idea and he kicked against it so I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself if anything happened to him.
But about a couple of minutes later, I heard a deep voice that sent an instant relief through me.
"Okay, coast is clear for now but I want everyone to stay close." Dominic's voice echoed weird off the stone walls.
"No wandering about or bickering." He directed his last words to the twins and they giggled mischievously.
“Daddy is serious.” I warned them as we went into the passage.
"Just keep walking straight, don’t touch anything or look for too long." I tried to sound calm. "All of these nightmares will be over soon."
"How do you know that, Mom?" Devon asked.
I didn't. But saying "I have no idea and we might be walking into a death trap" seemed counterproductive.
