"It's a form to renounce my identity as a Ryker and as a member of the Alpha family in the Royal Hunters pack," Celeste said clearly. "All you have to do is sign it, Mother. Disown me. Make it official. Then you'll only have one disappointment to deal with instead of two."
The room went completely silent. Even the air seemed to stop moving as my mother stared at the document in Celeste's hand.
I moved quickly, positioning myself between them. I could feel the war brewing, could sense that we were seconds away from something that couldn't be taken back.
"Celeste, let's think about this—" I started, but my sister cut me off with a scoff.
"Can't do it, can you, Mother?" Celeste said, her eyes fixed on Luna Helene's shocked face. "Can't quite bring yourself to officially admit that you failed as a parent?"
"Celeste, stop," I pleaded.
