Chapter 38 - Hacked

Wren went to the library to have silence, today she wanted to finish one of the missions and that was hacking into the academy surveillance system. The principal had given her a list of students' information she should hack into. Wren had a slight idea why they gave her that task. The academy wanted to test how strong their firewall is, and if there is any need to upgrade it. If Wren managed to hack and break into the system as a nine-year-old it would mean two things, she was very intelligent and good at the hacking field and also that their firewall is weak, that even a nine-year-old could hack into it. Wren knew it wouldn't be so easy. So she started off by looking into the students. The first student was Takashi Nakamura, a student from the Celestial class, really intelligent and talented. Not someone to mess with, and he was an SS rank student, a level that wasn't yet introduced to them.

Wren's eyes widened as she read through Takashi's profile. His grades were impeccable, and his extracurricular activities were impressive. He was a member of the academy's debate team, a pianist, and a black belt in karate. Wren's fingers flew across the keyboard as she dug deeper into Takashi's digital footprint. She discovered that he was a prolific coder, and his GitHub repository was filled with complex projects. His coding skills were on par with some of the best developers online.

As Wren continued to read, she found that Takashi was known for his analytical mind and problem-solving skills. He had solved complex puzzles and challenges on online forums, and his reputation as a genius was well-deserved. Wren's respect for Takashi grew as she realized that he was a formidable opponent. She would need to be at the top of her game to hack into the system using his credentials.

Wren took a deep breath, her eyes fixed on the screen. She began to formulate a plan, thinking of ways to exploit potential vulnerabilities in the system. With Takashi's profile in mind, she knew she had to be meticulous and strategic in her approach.

Wren's fingers flew across the keyboard as she created a custom program to bypass the academy's security measures. She began by crafting a sophisticated phishing email that would trick Takashi into revealing his login credentials. However, Wren knew that Takashi's SS rank status meant he would likely have advanced security protocols in place, making it harder to deceive him.

To overcome this, Wren designed a complex algorithm to analyze Takashi's online behavior, identifying patterns and vulnerabilities that she could exploit. She spent hours studying his social media profiles, online forums, and coding projects, searching for clues that would help her craft a convincing phishing email.

Once she had gathered enough information, Wren created a highly targeted phishing email that appeared to come from the academy's IT department. The email was designed to look legitimate, with convincing logos and formatting, and it asked Takashi to verify his login credentials due to a supposed security update.

Wren's program would then simulate a login attempt using Takashi's credentials, and if successful, it would grant her access to the academy's system. However, Wren knew that the system would likely have multiple layers of security, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and encryption.

To bypass these security measures, Wren's program would need to use advanced techniques such as SQL injection, cross-site scripting, or buffer overflow attacks. She carefully crafted her program to exploit potential vulnerabilities in the system's code, using a combination of automated tools and manual testing to identify weaknesses.

After hours of intense focus, Wren's program finally breached the system's defenses, and she gained access to Takashi's information. She quickly retrieved the data she needed, but as she was about to log off, her laptop suddenly froze, and the screen went black. The system shut down abruptly, and Wren was left staring at a blank screen. Her laptop had overheated, and the system had crashed, leaving her with nothing but a useless device and a sense of frustration..

After a while...

Wren's eyes widened in frustration as she stared at the black screen, the five crimson bolded words seeming to mock her: "Nice try junior, Takashi out." She grunted, her fingers clenched into fists. It was clear that Takashi had sent a virus to her computer, and if she wanted to continue her mission, she would need a new laptop. The problem was that laptops in the academy mall were ridiculously expensive.

Wren rubbed her eyes, feeling a mix of frustration and disappointment. She took her broken laptop and headed to the trash bin, feeling a strange sense of unease. She didn't know what she was scared of, since she had nothing important on the laptop, but the feeling of being watched lingered. After confirming that no one was behind her, she threw the laptop into the trash.

As she turned to leave, she didn't notice the figure emerging from the shadows, a mischievous smirk forming on their face as they retrieved the broken laptop from the trash bin. The figure's eyes gleamed with curiosity as they examined the laptop, wondering what secrets it might hold.

Meanwhile, Wren made her way to the academy mall, the bright lights and bustling atmosphere a stark contrast to the dimly lit library. The mall was still open, despite the late hour, and Wren walked to the tech section, scanning the shelves for a less expensive but efficient laptop. However, her heart sank as she saw the price tags - every laptop was over 100,000 points, and she only had 5,000 points in her account.

Wren's eyes widened as she browsed through the laptops, her mind racing with calculations. She knew she couldn't afford any of the laptops, and she would need to find another way to complete her mission. She felt a sense of determination rising within her, and she knew she would have to think outside the box if she wanted to succeed.
