Chapter 169 - CHAPTER 168

A Story Written For You

Shirō looked at Taiyi's determined face, sighed, and said,

"Alright, let's do it this way. There's no other option—and it's better than dying. Give me two minutes to prepare!"

"Two minutes? Understood. Go, we'll hold them off."

Upon hearing Nakamura's words, Shirō didn't hesitate. He immediately retreated to the side, pulled out a magic crystal, and began charging the engraved crest.

This plan was crucial—failure meant death. He had to ensure the energy storage was filled to capacity. Now was not the time to be frugal.

On the other side, Shirō's sudden retreat caught Black Zetsu's attention. His gaze shifted from the rampaging Seven-Tails to focus on the boy.

"Alright… let me see if you really know that secret skill," Black Zetsu muttered, eyes narrowing with a sinister gleam.

Although Shirō's actions differed somewhat from the rituals he had once witnessed, there remained the possibility that this was an altered form of the same inheritance. Zetsu decided to watch carefully.

Meanwhile, Shirō guided magic power into the crest, synchronizing it with the structure of the Noble Phantasm he intended to project.

This wasn't the kind of weapon that could simply be invoked by shouting its True Name. It required preparation—careful calculation, energy storage, and mental alignment.

Fortunately, Shirō's habit of analyzing Noble Phantasms during his downtime gave him a foundation. Without that, this situation would have been disastrous.

Within a minute, the crystal was drained, converted into pure, storable energy. With a breath, Shirō traced the form and projected a book into his hand.

As chakra and stored energy bled away, words began to inscribe themselves upon its pages. The book itself would become the activation medium.

By the second minute, the Noble Phantasm was ready.

It was fortunate that the Seven-Tails remained trapped in its unconscious frenzy. Were it lucid, even Nakamura's experience might not have been enough to buy this much time.

After all, there was a vast difference between a beast relying only on brute force and one that wielded its chakra with full intent.

Nakamura knew this all too well. Their earlier survival against a Tailed Beast had only been possible because the Jinchūriki and Bijū had clashed internally at the last moment, leaving the transformed body unstable. This current rampage was different—but no less dangerous.

"Taiyi! Get ready!" Shirō called.

Taiyi broke off from the Seven-Tails, drawing closer to Shirō.

With resolve, Shirō raised the book. His voice rang out:

"A Story Written For You — Märchen meines Lebens!"

Noble Phantasm: A Story Written For You (Märchen meines Lebens)

Rank: C

Type: Anti-Unit

Range: 0

Maximum Capture: One Person

The original manuscript of Hans Christian Andersen's autobiography, The Story of My Life.

It is a manifestation of Andersen himself—a record of his life and ideals.

Each page can manifest an "Andersen" shaped by the reader's perception, creating functioning clones through magical energy provided by others. Alternatively, the book may be rewritten from blank pages, allowing the subject to embody the "ideal self" as envisioned by the wielder.

---

For this battle, Shirō chose the second function: reshaping Taiyi into his ideal form.

But such rewriting came with limits. The greater the divergence from one's true self, the more energy required. Moreover, it could not create powers surpassing the authority of the Noble Phantasm itself.

Thus, godlike states such as Six Paths Sage Mode were out of reach. Even Mangekyō Sharingan techniques, with their reality-bending properties, could not be truly replicated. At most, ocular power could be bestowed.

The transformation would not be Taiyi's own awakening—it was an external imposition. Its cost would mirror the genuine Mangekyō: eyesight degradation.

"Taiyi, how is it? Are you alright?" Shirō asked, noting his comrade had kept his eyes shut after the ritual.

Slowly, Taiyi opened them. Where the three-tomoe Sharingan once spun, now burned a flame-like Mangekyō pattern.

"It worked…" Shirō breathed, though unease gnawed at him.

"I'm fine. Just adjusting to the new power." Taiyi's voice was steady, his gaze fierce. "Teacher Nakamura—I'll handle it."

He strode toward the Seven-Tails with a confidence that made Shirō uneasy.

"Be careful! This isn't permanent—you'll go blind if you overuse it!" Shirō warned.

"I know what I'm doing." Taiyi's Mangekyō spun—and instantly, the Seven-Tails' massive eyes mirrored his own.

The bijū froze.

"What—Mangekyō Sharingan?! Impossible! That brat awakened it?!" Black Zetsu's shock echoed from the shadows. To him, Taiyi had become an anomaly worthy of surveillance.

Shirō, Nakamura, and the others were no less astonished. In a single glance, Taiyi had subdued the rampaging Seven-Tails. The sheer potency of Mangekyō genjutsu left them speechless.

Without hesitation, Taiyi forced the beast to fold its wings and collapse. He pressed the control further, compelling it to self-destruct.

The Seven-Tails' maw opened—chakra swirling into a black sphere: a Tailed Beast Ball.

"Not good!" Shirō cursed, immediately summoning his Giant Bird No. 3. He signaled the others to board, gathering them swiftly before steering the bird skyward.

As the genjutsu frayed, Taiyi gave one final order: release the transformation.

The Seven-Tails detonated in a roar of self-inflicted destruction.

Watching from the darkness, Black Zetsu chuckled.

"Heh… Emiya Shirō… Uchiha Taiyi… interesting."
