Chapter 3 - Episode 3: The Homework Thief

Judy, Kevin, and Stella were skateboarding at the skate park, showing off their favorite tricks—Judy nailed a perfect kickflip while Kevin and Stella raced each other down the sidewalk. Their laughter echoed through the park as they cheered each other on, just enjoying the afternoon together. "Skateboarding is way more fun with friends," Stella said with a wide grin as they regrouped, ready to see what other adventures the day might bring.

Judy's watch then started beeping. She answered it, saying, "Hello." Sally replied, "Spies, there's an urgent mission for you. Homework has been disappearing all over Los Angeles for kids and teenagers. Your task is to find out what's happening—kids do their homework, but when they try to turn it in, it's gone without explanation."

Sally pressed a button on her control panel, sending three backpacks full of gadgets parachuting down to them. "These gadgets will help you," she explained. "Inside, you'll find P.A.L. Pens." Judy pulled one out. "Pal Pen?" she asked. Sally clarified, "P-A-L Pen stands for Pole and Laser Pen." Judy pressed a button, and a laser shot out. She pushed another button, transforming it into a long rod. "Wow," said Judy, as she changed it back into a pen and put it away.

Stella then found a necklace. "What a beautiful necklace," she remarked. Sally explained, "That's the Invisible Processor Necklace, Stella. Pressing its button makes the wearer invisible. You'll also have X-Ray Sunglasses, the Code Cracking Comb, Mini Smoke Bombs, Earring Listening Devices, Bungee Belts, Super Bubble Gum, and a Tracking Powder Makeup Set. Plus, your backpacks double as jetpacks. And you'll be flying this jet to Los Angeles." With that, Sally sent a jet to pick up Judy, Kevin, and Stella.

Judy, Kevin, and Stella flew to Los Angeles on their jet and landed right next to Los Angeles High. After arriving at the school, they used their disguise belts to pose as teachers. Peering into the detention room, they noticed it was full of students. "Things seem to be getting worse here," Judy remarked. "If we check the classrooms, maybe we'll find some clues."

Kevin pointed out, "The science room is empty; let's look there." The trio entered the lab, where Judy examined the area with her X-ray sunglasses but discovered nothing unusual. She removed her glasses and said, "There's nothing here." Stella agreed, noting, "This lab just looks like any regular science room." Kevin then questioned, "Or is it? Take a look at this." He spotted a Hound Pictures flyer on the teacher's desk, rolled it up, and tucked it into his backpack as they heard a class nearby. "I'll show it to you outside," Kevin whispered. Before the students and teacher arrived, the three quickly climbed out the window.

After exiting, the class entered, and Kevin showed Judy and Stella what he had found. "It is a flyer for Hound Pictures, a film production company," Kevin explained. Judy questioned, "Why would a science teacher possess such an item?" Kevin responded, "I'm not sure, but I suggest we listen in." The group positioned themselves beneath the window through which they had exited, activated their earring listening devices, and monitored activity in the classroom. Ron, the science instructor, addressed the class: "Please submit yesterday's homework. Mandy, we'll begin with you." Mandy replied, "Certainly," and searched her backpack, only to realize her homework was missing. "My homework is gone. I completed it and placed it here last night," Mandy said, distressed. Ron stated, "Because you do not have your homework, you will need to complete twice as much to compensate and attend detention for one week, similar to other students who claim their homework has disappeared." Stella began to suspect Ron's involvement and mused, "Hmm." She discreetly threw a rock into the classroom to create a diversion before swiftly applying tracking powder from her makeup set onto Ron while the class was distracted. "Come on," Stella instructed, leading Judy and Kevin away. Judy inquired, "Why are we leaving? We should continue investigating the school for more clues." Stella reassured, "We are not departing entirely. I hope the tracking powder proves effective." Stella accessed her watch, revealing that Ron was in the detention room. "Excellent work, Stella," Judy commended. Stella observed, "It seems he will remain occupied in the detention room until 3:00 p.m., so we must wait until then."

After school, Judy, Kevin, and Stella put on their spy uniforms using their disguise belts. Equipped with tracking powder Stella had previously used on Ron, they followed him. When their locator indicated he had stopped, they looked up at the building—Hound Pictures. They made themselves invisible with their invisible processor necklaces and slipped inside undetected. Quietly, they tailed Ron to the third floor, where they discovered him inside the president's office with Emily Saleem, the studio president.

Using their earring-listening devices, they overheard the conversation. Emily asked, "Did you bring it?" Ron confirmed by showing Mandy's homework and replied, "Yeah, I brought it." Emily responded enthusiastically, "Excellent. Now let's judge it." She entered Mandy's assignment into the grading system, which immediately awarded it an A+. Delighted, Emily remarked, "100%. An A+. This homework will make a great science fiction movie." She then sealed Mandy's homework in an envelope and mailed it off to the movie directors.

Realizing what was happening, Judy whispered, "That's what's going on. We need to call Sally." They turned off their invisibility, and Kevin called Sally on his watch. Sally answered, asking about their progress. Kevin explained, "Great—we found out that teachers are stealing smart students' homework and turning them into successful movies." Sally raised another concern: "What happens to the kids whose homework isn't as good?" Stella guessed that the directors must have rejected those assignments and done something else with them. Stella said, "It's okay, Sally. We'll figure it out."

Kevin ended his call on his spy watch, and the group started searching Hound Pictures for clues. They tried to open several rooms but quickly discovered that someone had locked every door. Thinking swiftly, Stella put on her X-ray sunglasses, allowing her to see through the walls. She noticed something unusual behind one of the doors and called out, "Guys, in here." The door wouldn't budge, so she pulled out the Code Cracking Comb, inserted it into the lock, pressed the button on its handle, and the comb identified the code to unlock the door. With the door now open, they entered and discovered several dogs in cages.

Suddenly, they heard footsteps approaching. The team shot their bungee belts at the ceiling and launched themselves up to hide. From their hiding spot, they saw Ron come in, accompanied by a security guard. Ron announced, "Here's a student's history homework; they scored a C+, a student's math homework; they got an A+, but we have no need for math homework in the movies, and a student's book report, they got a D-. All of it is useless to us, but not to you. Now feed." Ron then released the dogs, who ran straight for the piles of homework and began eating it. "Looks like those students will be in detention for a long time. Since their grades keep going to the dogs," Ron remarked.

Kevin whispered, "So that's what's happening to all the students' homework." Judy added, "And I bet that's why they call this place 'Hound Pictures.'" Unfortunately, the security guard overheard Judy and looked up, spotting the Spy Teens. "Oops," Judy muttered. "We have intruders," the guard declared.

The Spy Teens screamed, dropped from the ceiling, and knocked Ron and the guard down. They dashed for the exit, but Ron hit the intruder alert button, triggering alarms throughout the building. Security guards began scouring the premises for them. As the Spy Teens tried to escape, they found their path blocked by guards, who quickly surrounded them and raised their weapons. Gasping in surprise, the Spy Teens were captured and escorted to meet their villain.

The security guards escorted The Spy Teens to the studio president's office and threw them to the floor. Emily greeted the group, saying, "Good day, spies." Judy exclaimed, "Spies? Of course, we're not spies! We only slipped in because we wanted to see the studio—we're huge fans of your movies." Emily remarked, "I appreciate the effort; however, that attire does not reflect typical fan apparel. The Spy Teens looked down and realized they still wore their spy uniforms. Stella remarked, "Oops." Emily said, "Now, it's time for your demise. Take them to the hounds." Judy remarked, "I don't like the sound of that." The security guards took Judy, Kevin, and Stella to the room where they kept their dogs and locked them in a cage. Judy asked, "Could you explain your plan before you end this for us?" Emily responded, "Certainly. In case you haven't noticed, the elder minds don't have many ideas these days, but the younger minds do. Children often take pride in demonstrating their intelligence within the academic environment of school. Therefore, I chose to capitalize on the opportunity presented. I had my staff go to Los Angeles High as teachers, just like you did. Don't bother denying it—Ron said he recognized you three from school. Teachers assign homework to their students and identify those who receive the highest grades when the assignments are first submitted. Then I told them to steal their homework by breaking into their houses at night and pretending they had no idea what had happened. As a result, the students received detention when they were supposed to submit their assignments. Subsequently, the teachers I delegated would return with the students' assignments for my evaluation. The good ones get turned into movies I take credit for writing, and the ones with horrible grades get eaten by our dogs so we don't have to feed them real dog food. And now that you know the truth, it's time for me to say goodbye." Emily pushed a button, released their hounds, and they tried to eat Judy, Kevin, and Stella.

Once Emily abandoned them to their fate, she pressed on with her scheme. Left behind, Judy suddenly remembered something important. "Our gadgets—we still have them," she exclaimed. Reaching into her backpack, she retrieved her P.A.L. Pen. Kevin questioned its usefulness, but Judy handed him the Super Bubble Gum and instructed, "Start chewing." Taking her advice, Kevin popped a piece of gum into his mouth and started to chew.

Meanwhile, Judy activated her P.A.L. Pen, transforming it into a pole. Addressing the dogs, she called for their attention, instructed them to fetch, then threw the device, prompting the animals to pursue it. At the same time, Kevin utilized the Super Bubble Gum to create a bubble, which effectively dismantled the cage. After they reached the ground, the dogs began barking and pursued them once more. To evade capture, Stella deployed her mini smoke bombs, producing a substantial smoke screen to obscure their escape from the dogs' line of sight.

The Spy Teens hurried to Emily's office. "Now to kick some movie director's butt," Judy said. When they reached the door, Kevin switched his P.A.L. Pen to laser mode and cut through the lock, then kicked the door open. Seeing them, Emily asked, "How'd you get free?" Kevin replied, "That's our secret." Emily answered, "You may have escaped, but let's see you catch me." She pressed a button on her desk, causing her chair to drop through a trap door. Without hesitation, Judy, Kevin, and Stella activated their Jetpack Backpacks to pursue Emily as she descended into the basement on her chair. Emily glanced back, noticing the Spy Teens coming after her with their jetpacks. They arrived at the cellar once they had caught up with her. Then Emily grabbed a gun off the desk and tried to shoot the Spy Teens. Stella took out her P.A.L. Pen, pressed the button, and transformed it into a pole. Then Stella knocked Emily's gun out of her hands and hit her with her rod. After Emily fell to the floor, Judy, Kevin, and Stella moved quickly to handcuff her. SOOTS quickly arrived, apprehended Emily, took her into custody, and placed her in jail at their headquarters. "Job well done, spies," Sally remarked. "No problem, Sally," replied Judy. With their mission complete, Judy, Kevin, and Stella returned home on their jetpacks.
