The great doors of the Gremory estate opened wide, and the crimson glow of the torches spilled across the polished floors.
Zeoticus and Venelana stood at the top of the stairs, still trying to measure the man their daughter had chosen. But before either could speak further, a familiar voice broke the silence.
"Kaelthar!"
Rias's voice rang out, full of warmth and relief. From the far end of the hall, she rushed forward, her crimson hair flowing behind her like fire in the wind.
Kaelthar turned, golden eyes softening just slightly as she flung herself into his arms.
Without hesitation, she hugged him tight—and then, without a single care for who was watching, pressed her lips to his.
The kiss was long enough to silence the hall. Servants froze, Grayfia blinked once, and even Akeno and Koneko stiffened at the sight.
When Rias finally pulled back, her face flushed but her smile unshaken, she clung to his coat as though daring anyone to question her.
"Kaelthar," she said softly, "you really came."
Kaelthar's hand rested gently against her back. "Of course."
Zeoticus's expression cracked at last. His brows shot up, his mouth opening before he caught himself. What… what is this? My daughter—kissing him so boldly, right in front of us? He had seen Rias defiant before, but never like this.
Beside him, Venelana covered her lips with her hand, laughter threatening to spill. Her crimson eyes sparkled with amusement. Ara~ara… how bold, Rias. Not even afraid to show her feelings. Truly my daughter. And Kaelthar… not resisting in the slightest. This is going to be interesting.
Grayfia's face remained composed, but the faintest curve touched her lips. A small, private amusement at the chaos unfolding before her eyes.
Behind Kaelthar, Akeno's smile faltered, her eyes narrowing ever so slightly as jealousy flared in her chest. Koneko's golden gaze hardened, her tail twitching with irritation she refused to voice.
Venelana, however, was the first to break the silence. She stepped forward, her tone smooth and graceful as always. "Ara~ Rias, you certainly don't waste time, do you? How forward."
Rias's face flushed deeper, but she didn't let go of Kaelthar. "Mother, Father… this is Kaelthar."
Zeoticus cleared his throat, trying to recover some dignity. "Yes, well… we can see that." His eyes flicked between the two, still rattled. This isn't just infatuation. She's serious about him.
Venelana's gaze, however, drifted past Rias, settling on the two girls standing behind Kaelthar. Akeno and Koneko, who were still visibly unsettled.
With a soft smile, Venelana greeted them warmly. "Akeno, Koneko. How are you both finding school? Has Rias been treating you well?"
Akeno forced a sweet smile, though her voice carried a faint edge. "Of course, Lady Gremory. School has been… interesting."
Koneko crossed her arms, her voice blunt as always. "It's fine."
Venelana chuckled softly at their contrasting responses. "Good. I'm glad to hear it. You both must tell me more over dinner."
Her eyes lingered for a heartbeat longer, noticing the way they glanced at Kaelthar. Oh… so they're jealous. How deliciously complicated this has become.
Kaelthar said nothing. He simply watched them all, golden eyes calm, as though he had expected every reaction before it even happened.
The tension, the amusement, the jealousy—it was all laid bare before him.
And he welcomed it.
