"What?" I simply say, then I burst into laughter because this is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. I look at Jeremy to see if he's laughing with me because it's that funny, but he's not laughing; he looks serious. In fact, he looks like he's buying this nonsense.
"Are you ridiculous? Are you being serious? I am the son of Bastet and Anubis? Are you nuts?" I wait for her to start laughing to say yes, it's all a joke, but she doesn't.
"Hmm," she simply says. "Deep down, you know I'm right."
"Are you insane? No, I don't think you're right. I have two parents. Leonard and Fiona Humphrey, those are my parents. I saw the picture of them holding me in the hospital."
"Oh, honey, your mother wasn't supposed to have you. She was infertile. Did she not tell you?"
My face falls, because she did tell me that, but…
