Chapter 133 - Trial in the Outer Forest — Day One

The council dispersed slowly, chairs scraping against stone as elders left in pairs or alone. No one spoke loudly. The Prism results and the demonstration of the Battle Array had shaken them more than they showed.

For years, they had relied on instinct, favoritism, and guesswork. Now numbers, affinities, and limits stood in front of them like a mirror. Some elders avoided each other's eyes. Others looked thoughtful.

Robert remained behind for a moment, watching the emptying hall. The clan was changing. Whether it would grow stronger or crack under pressure depended on what they did next.

Formations could teach discipline. Array could polish skills. But neither could replace real danger. That evening, he knocked on the study door again.

"Enter," John Osborn said.

His father was bent over a table filled with scrolls and wooden slips, reviewing training rotations, resource logs, and supply routes. The work of a clan head never paused.
