MAHIRA
I woke up with a sore body and questioned my decision to sleep in a fuckin park. A couple of
reporters were taking pictures of me, the clicking of their cameras and their flashlights annoyed
me.
'Mahira, why did you spend the night here? There are rumors that your relationship with your ex
husband was better so why are you here.'
'If you say one more word, I'll burn down the company you work in and there's nothing you can
do about it now move out of my way.'
'Why are you venting your anger on us? We are just doing our job.'
'I'm warning you if you keep picking on the wounds of an animal, it won't end well for you.'
'And why should we be scared of you? Half of the world knows that your ex-husband and you
have issues and you nearly died because of him.'
I pushed the reporters aside and walked out of the park. My green saree was torn and I'm sure
my eyeliner was a mess not to mention my hair.
When I got home I found the house cleaner than I had found it last night. Thane drove the
wheelchair towards me with a smile on his face as if all this was a joke. As if making a fool out of
me was nothing but a joke. I smiled at him even though there was nothing to smile about really.
'Have you eaten yet.'
'No. I was waiting for you.'
'Okay. I'll prepare something for you.'
I made three bowls of greek salad, one for myself and the other two for Thane and Adamsen. I
served them their salad and smiled.
'Are you okay hottie?'
I slid an envelope towards Thane and Adamsen.
'These are the legal documents for my house. I have transferred them to your's and Adamsen's
name. I have also transferred nine million euros to your company, keep it.'
Thane looked confused, 'Why are you giving me these?'
Adamsen, 'you look cute when you are angry hottie.' Mahira, 'Shut up! Hottie my foot! How long were you planning on?' I closed my eyes and took a
deep breath, stopping myself from venting out in anger.
'I'm giving you these documents so that you can get out of mine and my son's life. I can't believe
you stopped this low. How could you betray me like that?'
Thane, 'what are you talking about?'
I turned to Adamsen, 'I trusted you. As much as I trusted you, your betrayal hurts me more than
that of Thane. How could you team up with him? I'm supposed to be your friend, your only friend
but you lied to me.'
Thane and Adamsen looked at each other. I'm sure they had no clue that I knew the truth.
'Thane you don't have to pretend to be a cripple anymore. It's pointless.'
They looked at each other, realization finally taking over both of them. Adamsen stood up and
opened his mouth but no words came out.
'I did it for you and only you Mahi.' Thane defended himself.
'What do you take me for Thane? Hmm. You do things that hurt me then you say that you love
me. You make mistakes and then ask for forgiveness only to make the mistakes again.'
Thane forcefully grabbed my arm and dragged me to our room. He locked the door and threw
the keys out after locking the balcony window.
'What the fuck are you doing?'
'either you listen to me or else I'll shut you up and you'll be forced to listen.'
'What more do you want? Why do you hurt me every time? Why do you come up with such petty
schemes to keep me close? Do you know how difficult it is to take care of a cripple? Do you
know how difficult it was for me when I found out about your condition?'
'I didn't want to lose you, it was the only way I could be close to you.'
'Thane, you ABUSED me. You cheated on me, you put our kids life's in danger as if that wasn't
enough you had to fake this. You pretended to be in a critical condition. I thought you were
going to die.'
'I only wanted to do good and earn your forgiveness. Mahira, please try to understand.'
I'm always understanding. Why am I the one who's always understanding.'
I'm sorry. Please I love you, I'm sorry Mahi.'
Was love supposed to be this painful? Did it require this many sacrifices?
'You have to ask for forgiveness from Kaashvi. Without her blessing I can't do much to keep
you.'
'I'll fix everything okay. I promise I'll fix everything.'
He pulled me into his arms, locking me in his embrace. Love was never my strength, it had
always been my weakness and perhaps the only reason why I always got hurt.
The door opened and Adamsen came in looking terrified. I thought the door was locked.
'Love birds. Your angry bird is here.'
'Angry bird? Who is the angry bird?'
'That Kaashvi. She's the angry bird.'
'Really?'
I pushed them aside and ran downstairs to hug Kaashvi. Angelo and Alexander stopped me
before I got downstairs and whispered to me that I was in trouble. I still went downstairs to meet
her even though I was presumably in trouble. 'Let me guess, even after so much betrayal and pain you have forgiven Thane because you
love him.' She emphasized the love part.
'He is really sorry.'
She looked at me as though warning me with her eyes but also trying to understand where I
was coming from. I know she didn't approve of this though. Kaashvi walked straight to Thane.
'If you hurt Mahira I'll cut off your balls you hear me. I'm only forgiving you because of Mahira. If
it wasn't for her I'd have buried you alive.'
Angelo, 'we will assist aunt Kaashvi with burying you alive if you hurt mom again.'
Alexander, 'stop with all the threats. As for me, if dad doesn't propose to mom right now I'll be
the first to gouge out his eyes.'
Thane kneeled in front of me and asked for my hand in marriage. This time he didn't get as
emotional and dumbstruck as last time. Kaashvi rolled her eyes.
'Hold your horses, you actually thought my forgiveness won't come with a price tag. You put
mahi through shit she should have been protected from so your marriage this time will come at
a price.'
'I'm willing to pay any amount, just name your price.'
'Well then you will have to give me a farm, a farm with 10 horses,10 pig's,10 cows, you know
what just ten of each domestic animal. And a big mansion as well as 100 000 000 000 Euro's.'
My mouth fell wide open at the price Kaashvi set out. She must be joking right, I mean, this
much money and so many animals. That money and animals will be enough to sustain 9
generations.
Adamsen, 'Thane, I think that you are going to be broke. Is your company that rich?'
'Ooh and I want ownership of 4 of your companies, only then can you marry my best friend.'
Angelo, 'ooh dad, will you be able to pay for that?'
Kaashvi smiled at Thane.
Thane, 'please tell me that you are joking please.'
'People tend to take free things for granted so this way, you'll know the value of what you have.'
Well, she was right about one thing. People take free things for granted.
