I didn't expect Bella to slap Mahira that way. Before I could even break Mahira's fall, someone
beat me to it. There was my sister with a strange man. Ooh, I recognize him, he is Adamsen
Lorenzo Mendez, the business tycoon.
But what would Adamsen be looking for here, that too with my wife. I completely forgot that
Mahi had fainted and let anger get the best of me.
'Leave my wife.'
He looked at my Mahi with so much affection and care, a feeling I knew far too well and I
wanted to gouge out his eyes for looking at her that way.
'Why? Now you know that she's your wife. How can you cheat on your wife right in front of her?'
'How does it concern you? She's my wife not yours. Unless you think you have the right to my
wife after fucking her.'
Adamsen chuckles, 'You think so low of your wife. You don't even trust her. It's a pity she's in
love with someone like you.'
'Are you jealous? Don't be, she's my…'
Elena intervened.
'Stop it both of you! Fairy is not well and all you can do is fight. Adamsen sir please carry fairy to
your car. Brother you are coming with us to follow Adamsen's car. You have a lot of questions to
answer!'
Elena glared daggers at me then turned her back and left. Adamsen left following suite after
Elena and I glared at Bella who had a smug smile on her face. She reached her hand out to
touch me but I hit her hand away and followed them. Although there was space in their car they
left without me so I used my own and followed them to the hospital.
The jealousy threatened to tear me apart. I, the original husband, had to follow empty handed
while some stranger carried my wife as if they were lovers. And my sister, whom I thought was
dead, is actually alive. How? Ariana told me that Elena was dead. When we got to the hospital,
the doctor examined Mahira for nearly eight hours. 'It's so pointless pretending you care about her, you have done worse to her' my conscious said
out of the blue.
It's true, I've hurt her so much these past months. I have done more damage to her than myself.
I have done so many despicable things. I put her through shit I should have protected her from
but what about what she did to me was unforgivable and she deserved how I treated her so she
does not get to play the victim card.
Ever since we came here, no one said a word to each other, well to me specifically. Elena has
been sitting with Adamsen all along. She kept looking at him throughout until he asked her why
she was staring, she started crying and he hugged her but he didn't look very comfortable with
that kind of physical contact.
I didn't dare approach her, perhaps I could blame it on the shame I felt for believing she was
dead even when Mahira told me she wasn't but just because one thing she said was true
doesn't erase all the things she did and the lies she fed me.
'Doctor, is she fine? What happened to her?'
Adamsen was the first to ask the doctor that question with concern written all over his face,
concern I didn't want him to feel.
'Are you her husband?'
I stepped forward, 'No. I'm her husband.'
Adamsen glared at me then turned his attention back to the doctor.
'Doctor, please just tell me if she is going to be fine. Is her condition serious?'
'She shows signs of physical abuse, emotional abuse and the reason why she fainted is
because of starvation. She hasn't eaten in two days. Her immune system is very weak. She
needs proper care and attention. Her mental health is deteriorating. This is a case of domestic
violence hence the police need to be involved. The police will be arriving in ten minutes. Until
then no one is allowed to see her for fear of her being threatened to keep quiet.'
The doctor left and Adamsen finally broke their silence.
'What did you do to her? You claim she's your wife but you are harassing her. Aren't you
ashamed of yourself? You fuckin abuse her.'
'Didn't I tell you to mind your business. She is my…'
'Wife? Is that what you call her, your wife? Brother…'
Elena closed her eyes and tears forced their way out of her eyes even when they were shut.
'You have a lot of shit to explain brother and you better have a valid reason for fairy being in this condition.'
Elena walked away. The police came in after 10 minutes and interrogated Mahira. I'm not sure what he told them but they left disappointed, one of them looked at me before they left.
