Chapter 23 - Don't move or you will get hurt

Lydia's pov

I moved back in caution and heard a low laugh coming from her.

"What are you?" I questioned, buying time. Mia was tiptoeing toward us, careful not to alert her.

"They call me Faceless," she said, and I wasn't really shocked. Her name fit her perfectly.

"What do you want from me?" I questioned, acting scared, and I heard her laugh again, causing a chill to run down my spine. She had no facial structure and no mouth, so hearing her laugh was totally strange.

Holding my breath, I immediately bent down as Mia used the log of wood in her hand to hit her hard on the head, causing her to scream inhumanly before disappearing into thin air.

"Let us leave here. This area is filled with bad energy," Mia said, holding my hand and leading the way. We walked back with her mate and the other werewolves who wore guard uniforms.

When we got to the gate, they all entered, and Mia hugged her mate, giving him a light kiss on his cheek before holding my hand again. We moved cautiously it was dark, and we tried our best to avoid being seen by any of the park obryn masters.

When we got to the room, Judith and her bunkmate were asleep or so I thought, until I heard Judith's bunkmate speak.

"Where are you guys coming from? You should be grateful we covered up for you guys."

"Oh… I see. Thank you for that," Mia said and was about to climb up.

"Aren't we supposed to bathe?" I asked, feeling sweaty, and watched her smile.

"It is past time for that, and if we try it now, we will draw unnecessary attention," she whispered back. I swallowed hard and nodded.

"Okay," I said and lay on my bed.

"Hey! I just asked you guys a question," Judith's bunkmate spoke, her voice filled with irritation.

"Keep it low. It's too noisy," Judith who I thought was asleep spoke, and her bunkmate didn't disturb us again.

I closed my eyes to sleep, but I felt something furry rubbing my leg. It was both soothing and annoying at the same time.

It reminded me of my cat in my past life. When it became too much, I opened my eyes only to meet a pair of dark orange eyes belonging to a very dark, strange looking animal. It looked more like a cat, but it had no ears, and then it grinned, showing off its sharp teeth, which made my heart almost jump out of my chest.

What the heck is this? I muttered under my breath, watching as the thing kept rubbing my leg with its fur.

"Let go!" I said and kicked, but it didn't let go. Instead, it acted like it wanted to bite me, and I screamed loudly.

It disappeared into thin air like it was never there.

"Sorry for that," I spoke loudly. I knew I might have startled all my roommates.

"You good?" Mia asked, her tone clearly full of worry.

"Yes," I replied and lay back down.

I don't know how long I slept, but the call bell rang, and I got up only to observe that I was the only one in the room. I hurried outside, only to see everywhere plunged in red, like it was a normal thing.

Then I saw people with red. looking eyes as they transformed into beastly wolves having human forms with strong builds and the heads of wolves. Their claws were long, and in the midst of them, I saw a familiar figure clothed in red, flowing garments.

Turning toward me, his face was masked, but I couldn't help the feeling that he was familiar. Slowly, he walked toward me, taking each step gracefully, and my heart filled with fear.

Is this the end of the world? I muttered under my breath, and I heard him whisper.

"Of course not, Lydia…" he said, then paused. "This is the beginning," he added, and his inhumane, scary laugh made my scalp tingle.

"Come with me," he said, about to grab my hand, but I dodged it.

"No," I said and walked away from him. His eyes grew cold, and he raised his hand, muttering some words I didn't understand. The beastly werewolves looked in my direction, their eyes fierce, ready to devour me.

"Are you coming with me or not?" he asked again, giving me a second chance, but I didn't agree. There was no way I would follow him never!

Instead of replying, I began to run, as fast as my legs could carry me. Then I heard his voice, laced with anger.

"Attack!"

Taking a quick look behind me, I saw them, an army of beastly werewolves running toward me. My heart raced.

This is the end, I concluded.

Suddenly, an arm grabbed me and pulled me behind a wall, close to himself. Looking deep into the guy's eyes, I saw worry etched on his face. He was the same guy I had seen in my dreams a couple of times.

"What do you want?" I questioned, trying to break free from his grip, but he didn't let go.

"Don't move, or you'll get hurt," he said, smiling, and I found it oddly strange. Why was he smiling?

I opened my mouth to speak but shut it when I saw him spit out a mouthful of blood.

"You have to leave now," he said seriously, his brows furrowed like he was in pain. I looked at him carefully and noticed an arrow plunged into his stomach. He was bleeding badly but had acted normal until now.

The arrow tip was barely visible, that was why I wasn't hurt when he pulled me closer.

"You're hurt," I said in fear.

He smiled and touched my face. "Take care of yourself," he said, and my heart ached painfully.

Then I heard the voice of the guy who had been chasing me.

"Enough of the lovey dovey moment. Come out!"

I was scared.

"We have to leave," I whispered to my savior, but he replied, "It's too late."

Then the other guy came into view, smiling as he looked at us.

He spoke a strange word and waved his hand in the air. A very dark looking bow and arrow appeared in his hand.

He smiled and aimed it at me.

"Don't shoot!" I shouted, shielding my savior, and I heard him laugh.

He drew the arrow and shot it, but before it could hit me, my savior shielded me. The arrow struck him, and he vomited a mouthful of blood before falling to the floor, lifeless.

"No!!" I screamed.

A blinding light covered everything, and I woke up, sweating.

Thank goodness it was just a dream but it felt very real.

It was still dark outside, and all my roommates were asleep. Suddenly, a faint light caught my at

tention. When I looked down, it was the necklace I was wearing it was glowing.

What does it mean? I wondered.
