Department of Heroes, Pentagon
The United States of America
With his left hand bandaged, plastered, and stuck to his chest, Alexander Becking walked the corridor, catching eyes from left and right.
Leya, his assistant, was walking in his shadow, her head down.
A group of armed personnel were following them as well.
Alex was wearing a neat black suit, the cigar in his mouth letting out smoke, his gray eyes looking older than the last time.
Suddenly, those gray eyes landed on a person, making him pause, with Leya running right into him from behind.
"Yo! Alex…" The voice boomed across the corridor as the Hero smiled. "I heard you caught a big fish, gramps!"
Alex crushed the cigar between his fingers unknowing. "… Star…"
Yes. The person walking right toward him, wearing Hero Costume that boisterously showcased the American flag, was none but the USA's No. 1 Hero —
— Cathleen Bate, more popularly known as… Star and Stripe!
Star was a tall woman, but compared to Alex, she fell eight inches shorter.
Her eyes landed on Alex's broken hand, the smile on her face widening. "Not bad…" she remarked. "The last time I saw you hurt so bad was when you were begging me to spare your life…"
Alex ground his teeth. "I never begged…"
"… Wouldn't know, to be honest," Star said, cutting him off. "… What with my foot on your face…"
Alex looked down at Star, their eyes looking into each other's.
A heaviness suddenly began manifesting in the entire place, despite the corridor's vastness. All guards, with Quirk or Quirkless, felt as if they were burning from inside, their shoulders drooping down.
Blue and Golden aura covered Alex and Star, ethereal sparks crackling between them.
"Hahaha!" Star laughed.
"Hahaha!!" Alex joined her.
Everyone's shoulders relaxed as if they had just averted a crisis.
In the very next moment, Alex slammed his head down on Star's face, and her fist landed on his stomach.
A BOOM threw everyone off their feet, the ground cracked and the walls caved in.
Both Alex and Star took a step back, enormous thuds rattling the entire structure.
Bile rose to Alex's throat, his insides twisting unnaturally within. Opposite him, Star chewed on something and spat out a tooth covered in blood.
"… Nice to see you, Alex!" Star let out a bloody grin, wiping away the blood. "Be careful… The bastards out to get you, I think."
As the No. 1 Hero walked past him, her large cape fluttering behind her, Alex somehow managed to not vomit and kept his spine straight.
"… Fuck you, too…" he growled, the corners of his lips arching up as her warning echoed in his head.
…
Alex entered a large hall where some big shots were seated behind a semi-circular table.
There was the Director of the Pentagon in the middle, flanked by Chiefs of International Operations and Hero Department.
Alex didn't recognize the others as he only reported to these three people directly.
If he was being honest, then he did not know why he was even here.
After the incident, the Government officials had already taken away all the information that they could salvage. Because of a sudden glitch in the electronics, all the cameras and other surveillance systems had stopped working somewhere after they had activated the Lockdown Procedure.
He had confidentially reported on the two boys who weren't with the Villains and had aided him during the battle.
Could it be related to that? Alex thought, frowning.
The higher-ups knew that Alex was a member of an ancient Order — which was also the reason behind his Quirk Evolution from Weight Accumulator to Gravity Crusher.
However, when all their attempts to unearth secrets related to Singularity and Quirk Evolution had failed, instead of continue torturing Alex, they had decided to use him as a tool, keeping him close.
So, it wouldn't surprise Alex if the bastards would use this incident again as a leverage.
"… How did Dr. Blessed get the fourth helper out of nowhere?" the Director asked. "The footage shows he arrived with a male and a female. Where did the Cyborg come from?"
So, it's the Cyborg that caught their eyes, huh? Alex noted, shrugging. "Don't know," he replied.
A silence lingered in the hall as the Director of the Pentagon waited for more.
Alex disappointed him, though, as he began looking around nonchalantly.
Letting out a sigh, the Director flipped the page. "Five Spider Drones of the Heavy Drones Unit are missing from the Detention Center," he pointed out. "Only scraps of their shells were collected from outside the escapee's Cell. Do you think the Micro Nuclear Reactors are related to this Cyborg?"
Now that was a damn interesting question, Alex realized. Why hadn't he thought of it?
He remembered the last fist of that fucking Mushroom-headed abomination… The same fist that had lit the entire Los Angeles' sky and had sent him flying, despite his 10000% accumulated weight.
"… It could be…" Alex answered.
A rush of whispers occurred between the Director, the Chiefs, and other officials.
"… There's no point in hiding the matter of Spatial Barrier now," the Director said after a while. "If Dr. Blessed knows about you, then it's safe to assume that the entire world knows about you. We need to tighten the Detention Center's security, but… you will not be a part of it anymore."
Alex's eyes gave off a blue glow.
No mention of other Radiants at all, first. Now this?!
"What are you planning…" Alex hissed.
"We have decided to cooperate with the Japanese Government regarding this," the Director said, smiling. "There will be a prisoner swap…"
"No!" Alex fumed. "I have yet to question that bastard!"
"Sadly…" the Director's eyes narrowed, the smile on his face widening. "… That's not up to you. Of course, delivering him to Tartarus is your official mission."
"… Then what's the true mission?" Alex asked, sensing something bad coming.
The Director stood up, a large screen behind him lighting up, showing a figure shooting across the sky, carrying Dr. Blessed and his associates over its back.
"… The Cyborg…" The Director of Pentagon ordered. "… Bring back the country's property, soldier.
"… And deliver American Vengeance upon these wannabes who think they can mess with the USA."
