Chapter 126 - Dark voyage chapter 126

NARRATOR

After that, silence claimed the room where Sai stood. No one dared to speak further—Yuri, Namae, Taro, even Sai himself. In that brief, fragile moment, all of them needed time to breathe, to weigh the truth that had just been laid before them, and to realize the perilous occasion they now stood within.

Elsewhere, Jiro had already stepped away. Leaving Yosuke's room, he wandered into the forest beyond the village walls. There, beneath the weight of swaying trees and shifting light, he trained—his movements sharp and relentless, as though every strike and motion could silence the unease gnawing inside him.

Yosuke, however, remained. Sitting alone, staring at his scarred hand, he thought of Naemi. His mind circled endlessly around the question of what the gate—and the godglyph—meant for her. He had no answers, only shadows of possibilities, each darker than the last.

When Naemi returned later that evening, cheerful and weary from her tasks, Yosuke forced a smile and welcomed her in. But he chose silence. He did not tell her what Jiro had suspected, nor the strange pull she might have felt toward the gate. He swallowed his worries, deciding it was not yet time.

The night passed, heavy and quiet.

By the next morning, the village was awake with whispers, though none dared to name the truth. It was then that Taro sought Yosuke. They spoke briefly, but the weight of the conversation was clear: Naemi, and what role she might unknowingly play in what was to come.

That same afternoon, Taro sent word to all of them. Sai, Yuri, Jiro, Yosuke, and Naemi were invited to gather in a single room. The summons carried no flourish, no explanation—only the weight of necessity.

A meeting awaited them, and with it, the next step toward a fate none of them could yet see.

SAI SHINU

The room Taro had chosen was simple: four wooden walls, a low table in the center, and enough floor cushions for all of us. Yet as we gathered, the air felt heavier than stone.

I glanced around — Jiro's jaw was tense, as if he'd rather be back in the forest training. Yosuke's eyes kept flicking to Naemi, who sat quietly with her hands folded in her lap. Yuri sat close to me, her gaze steady, though I could tell she was watching more than she spoke. Taro, as always, held himself like a man carrying the weight of command.

Finally, Taro broke the silence.

"Thank you all for coming. I know everyone's tired after… what we went through. But we can't ignore what's in front of us. The gate is still open, and inside it lies a godglyph. That means danger — and opportunity."

I felt my chest tighten. He was right. The longer the gate remained, the more unstable things could become.

Yosuke leaned forward, voice low but firm.

"Before we decide anything, there's something you should all know. About Naemi."

Naemi blinked, clearly caught off guard. "Me?"

"Yes." Yosuke nodded. "Jiro and I discussed it yesterday. We realized something. When someone breaks a godglyph, the power doesn't vanish. That's impossible. But Naemi…" He glanced at her hand. "When she broke one, nothing happened. No visible power, no ability. Which means…" He let the words hang.

Jiro crossed his arms and finished the thought. "Which means the power didn't vanish — it's flowing through her. But because she doesn't have a core, she can't wield it like we do. She can't summon flames, bend water, or manipulate wind. But she can sense them."

All eyes turned to Naemi. She looked down at her lap, her lips pressing into a thin line. I could see her shoulders tremble before she finally spoke.

"When I first came to this village… after the bar, when we split to look for Taro… I felt something strange. Like something was pulling me. I ended up outside that room — the one with the gate. I tried the door, but it was locked. I ignored it then… but that feeling, that pull, it hasn't left me since."

Yosuke placed a hand on the table, firm. "That's proof. She's connected to them. Even if she can't wield the powers, she can feel the godglyphs."

Taro's expression darkened, but his voice was steady. "Naemi." His eyes locked onto hers. "You understand what this means, don't you? If we're right, then you're the only one who can lead us to other glyphs. But it will be dangerous — more dangerous than anything you've faced before. If enemies learn about this, you'll be hunted. I need to know… are you willing to help us?"

The room fell silent. My heart thudded in my chest as I studied Naemi's face. She was pale, but there was a spark in her eyes — the same determination I'd seen in battle.

"Yes," she said finally, her voice firm despite the tremor in her hands. "If I can help, then I will. I don't want to be the one everyone protects while you fight. I want to stand with you, in my own way."

Taro nodded, his features softening just slightly.

I leaned back, exhaling. "Then it's settled." I looked around at each of them — Jiro, Yuri, Yosuke, Taro, and finally Naemi. "She may not fight like us, but she has something we don't. A connection none of us could ever hope to replicate. From now on…" I glanced at her again, and a faint smile tugged at my lips. "…Naemi will be our navigator. The godglyph navigator."

The words lingered in the air. Heavy. Final.

For a moment, none of us spoke. But deep down, I knew — this decision would change everything about the path ahead.
