Chapter 35 - Chapter 35: Before the Storm

Evening — Sanatan Flame Sect

The sun dipped below the horizon, casting an amber hue over the towering structures of the Sanatan Flame Sect. Shadows stretched across the courtyard as evening approached, wrapping the sect in a tranquil yet anticipatory silence.

Inside the Gravity Training Chamber, however, peace was the last thing present.

First Level Training Ground.

Disciples sat cross-legged on stone platforms, meditating deeply, while others clashed in fierce duels, pushing their spiritual and physical limits to the brink.

No one held back.

The air buzzed with spiritual energy. Bodies moved with blinding speed, and the clash of weapons echoed like thunder through the chamber.

Elder Wu observed carefully, correcting stances and movements with the sharp eye of a seasoned master.

"Zong Bu," he called firmly, his voice stern yet encouraging.

"You've improved. But it's still not enough. You must push beyond your limits!"

Zong Bu nodded silently, sweat dripping from his brow. Without hesitation, he resumed his duel with renewed determination.

Meanwhile, Elder Wan had gathered disciples from the Alchemy Hall and was teaching them his latest creation.

"Look carefully, disciples," Elder Wan said, unveiling a small red-glowing pill.

"These are the upgraded Explosive Pills. One pill can kill a peak Qi Refiner and severely injure even a peak Core Formation cultivator."

The disciples' eyes widened.

"We will now learn how to create them," he continued, carefully measuring ingredients while his disciples watched with fascination.

Second Level Training Grounds

Here, the gravity increased to 20× normal gravity.

Elder Liya and Lin Shu split the disciples into two groups.

Lin Shu led Su Quan, Muo Qian, and several other female disciples through advanced formations. Their movements flowed like water.

Across the chamber, Elder Liya trained Xu Ran, Xiao Lian, Xiao Rui, Lee Bie, and several others.

"You are all doing great," Elder Liya said confidently.

"If you continue pushing beyond your limits, we will be able to stand against the Royal Army."

Her words ignited new determination.

Despite the crushing gravity that strained their muscles and bones, no one faltered.

In a corner of the chamber stood four powerful figures:

Wang Tian

Luo Chen

Sheng Lu

Lu Fang

Even under 20× gravity, they stood relaxed.

Wang Tian chuckled as he pulled out his greatsword.

"Loser treats the winner to a meal."

Lu Fang smirked.

"I have no objection. After all… I'm going to win."

Sheng Lu raised an eyebrow.

"Your dream is admirable, but the winner will be my Majesty."

Wang Tian sighed.

"Sheng Lu, how many times do I have to say this?"

"I am not your Majesty."

"I am your senior disciple right now."

"And as your senior… I order you to go all out."

Sheng Lu bowed respectfully.

"As you command, my lord."

Luo Chen unsheathed his Lotus Sword and pointed it toward Wang Tian.

"Less talk."

"More fighting."

In a flash—

He charged forward.

Wang Tian dodged and countered with a powerful fist.

Luo Chen tilted his head slightly, narrowly avoiding the strike.

Nearby, Sheng Lu and Lu Fang began their own battle.

Steel clashed.

Fists collided.

Energy rippled violently through the chamber.

Luo Chen vs Wang Tian

Sheng Lu vs Lu Fang

Other disciples gathered to watch, inspired by the intensity of the fight.

Luo Chen's sword danced through the air, sparks flying as it collided with Wang Tian's fists and blade strikes.

Their battle intensified.

"Mountain Breaking Fist!" Luo Chen roared.

"Iron Fist!" Wang Tian answered.

A shockwave exploded outward, forcing both fighters to slide several feet back.

Then they lunged again.

Wang Tian drew his sword and attacked.

Luo Chen countered instantly.

Their blades clashed continuously.

Even under 20× gravity, their movements remained fluid.

They had adapted.

They had evolved.

"Lotus Swift Slash!" Luo Chen roared.

"Lightning Cracking Slash!" Wang Tian answered with full power.

The techniques collided with a deafening explosion.

Energy blasted outward.

Sheng Lu and Lu Fang were thrown backward, their eyes wide with shock.

The entire second floor trembled.

Down below—

Elder Wu and Elder Wan looked upward.

"Powerful energy… from the second floor?" Elder Wu muttered.

Back on the second level—

Wang Tian and Luo Chen continued clashing.

Again.

And again.

Their blades sparked like lightning.

Finally, both leaped backward.

Breathing heavily.

Time for their final attack.

"Ultimate Sword Strike!"

They roared simultaneously.

The resulting explosion cracked the air.

Even the elders stepped back.

A blinding light filled the chamber.

Silence followed.

As the dust settled—

Wang Tian and Luo Chen stood motionless.

Then Wang Tian smiled.

Luo Chen dropped to his knees, panting.

"The battle is over!" Xiao Rui shouted.

"And Wang Tian won again!" Muo Qian clapped excitedly.

"Wow, he's super cool!"

Su Quan rushed over to Luo Chen.

"Are you alright?"

Luo Chen smiled weakly.

"Don't worry."

"I'm too strong to fall."

He looked toward Wang Tian.

"You won again."

Wang Tian chuckled.

"Of course."

"Now you owe me a meal."

"But you did really well."

Luo Chen gave a thumbs-up.

Wang Tian returned it.

Elder Liya clapped loudly.

"Alright, you two rest."

"Everyone else — resume training!"

Nearby, Lu Fang and Sheng Lu exchanged grins.

"Let's finish our fight," Sheng Lu said.

Lu Fang entered a fighting stance.

"Just don't cry when I defeat you."

Lin Shu watched from the side.

Her gaze drifted toward the third-level entrance.

"I hope Shaurya is alright…"

Third Level — 40× Gravity

Shaurya lay on the stone floor.

His body drenched in sweat.

His muscles burned.

His chest rose and fell with each painful breath.

"The energy that shook the chamber…"

"…must have been those two brats," he muttered.

Images of Wang Tian and Luo Chen appeared in his mind.

"But since the energy disappeared… the battle must be over."

"Wang Tian probably beat Luo Chen again."

The system responded.

[System: Wow, host. Your guess is spot-on.]

Shaurya slowly pushed himself to his feet.

"That wasn't a guess."

"I know my disciples well."

"That is the mark of a true leader."

His body trembled under the pressure.

"They're doing great…"

"And as their master…"

"I cannot fall behind."

"I am the Sect Leader of Sanatan Flame Sect."

He roared proudly.

"Shaurya the Great!"

A powerful aura burst from his body.

Then he resumed training.

Punches.

Kicks.

Shadow boxing.

Martial arts forms.

His movements flowed endlessly.

His power surged.

His spirit ignited.

"Royal Family…"

"I don't care how strong you are."

"You chose the wrong sect to provoke."

"I will destroy you."

His aura glowed with divine brilliance.

15 Hours Later

The disciples and elders exited the chamber.

Exhausted.

But stronger.

Wang Tian and Luo Chen were completely drained.

Sheng Lu, Lu Fang, and others limped with sore bodies yet satisfied smiles.

Elder Wu looked around.

"Where is the Sect Leader?"

Lin Shu and Elder Liya froze.

"He's still inside!" Lin Shu gasped.

"He entered the third level from the very beginning…" Elder Liya murmured.

Everyone turned toward the chamber door.

Lin Shu clasped her hands.

"I hope you're alright…"

The door creaked open.

Shaurya stepped out slowly.

Bleeding.

Pale.

Barely standing.

His robes were torn.

His breathing shallow.

The entire sect froze.

Lin Shu rushed to him.

"Are you alright?"

"You look terrible."

"You look like you fought someone!"

Shaurya gently patted her head.

"I fought gravity."

"It's too strong in there."

Lin Shu froze.

Her cheeks turned crimson.

The entire sect gasped.

Shaurya blinked in confusion.

Then suddenly realized.

He quickly pulled his hand back.

"L-Lin Shu… I didn't mean—"

Lin Shu lowered her head.

"It's alright."

"You must be tired."

"Go rest."

"I will cook something healthy for you."

Before he could reply—

She vanished.

Elder Liya chuckled.

"Kids these days are so shy."

"I'll go help her."

The disciples remained frozen.

Mouths wide open.

Shaurya stared at them.

"What is with these weird reactions?"

He raised his fist.

Instantly—

Everyone turned away awkwardly.

"The weather is nice…"

"Yeah… very nice…"

"Have you visited that place—"

"You… I… we… uh…"

"You know I'm a boy and you're a male—"

They began babbling nonsense.

Shaurya sighed.

Are they all fools?

One thing is certain.

They are very bad at acting.

"I guess I'll have to train that out of them too."

Outside — Near the Kitchen

Lin Shu leaned against a wall.

Her face was still bright red.

She clutched her chest as her heart raced.

"H-How could he do that in front of everyone…"

"He's such an idiot…"

Elder Liya arrived quietly.

Lin Shu immediately composed herself and began cooking.

Elder Liya smiled knowingly.

"Kids these days…"

Meanwhile — Far Away

The earth began to tremble long before anyone saw them.

At first it was only a distant rhythm…

A deep, thunderous pulse rolling across the land.

Thud.

Thud.

Thud.

Dust rose along the far horizon, slowly thickening into a vast grey wall that swallowed the evening light. Birds scattered from the trees in panicked flocks. Even the wind seemed to hold its breath.

Then the banners appeared.

Rows upon rows of crimson war flags cut through the dust like bleeding streaks across the sky. Golden emblems of the Royal Army glimmered beneath the dying sun, fluttering violently as the marching tide advanced.

And beneath those banners—

Steel.

Thousands of armored soldiers marched in perfect formation. Spears angled forward like a forest of blades. Shields clashed in rhythm with their steps, creating a metallic roar that rolled across the plains like distant thunder.

The ground shook beneath their advance.

They did not look like an army.

They looked like a moving wall of war.

At the very front—

A beast walked that did not belong to the mortal world.

Its scales shimmered deep sapphire beneath the sunlight. Hooves crackled with faint blue lightning each time they touched the ground. A mane of mist-like energy flowed behind it like drifting clouds.

A Qilin.

Each step of the mythical creature left faint glowing marks upon the soil.

And upon its back sat the man leading the storm.

General Chu Kang.

His figure towered above the soldiers like a war god descending upon the battlefield.

Silver armor wrapped his body, polished so sharply it reflected the burning sky. The plates were engraved with ancient battle runes, each line glowing faintly as spiritual power flowed through them.

Across his back hung a monstrous battle axe.

The weapon was so large that an ordinary warrior would need both hands just to lift it. Yet Chu Kang held it casually in one hand, the massive blade resting against his shoulder.

The edge shimmered with a cold, brutal light.

His face was calm.

Too calm.

Cold eyes scanned the endless plains ahead as if already measuring where the blood would fall.

The air around him distorted slightly.

An invisible pressure spread outward like the weight of a collapsing mountain.

Soldiers near him kept their heads lowered without realizing it. Even the war horses behind the front lines snorted nervously.

This was the aura of a man who had slaughtered through countless battlefields.

A man who had crushed cities beneath his march.

The Qilin snorted, releasing a stream of blue mist from its nostrils.

Chu Kang slowly lifted his gaze toward the distant lands ahead.

The axe shifted in his grip.

Clang.

The sound alone echoed across the army.

Immediately—

The marching rhythm intensified.

Thousands of soldiers struck their shields with their spears.

CLANG.

CLANG.

CLANG.

The sound rose into the sky like a declaration of war.

From the horizon to the hills, the Royal Army stretched endlessly.

Armor.

Spears.

War banners.

An unstoppable tide of steel swallowing the land.

Dust storms rolled behind them as they advanced.

Villages in the far distance had already begun to ring their warning bells.

War drums thundered.

And at the front of it all—

General Chu Kang tightened his grip on the axe.

His voice was quiet.

But it carried across the army like a blade cutting through the wind.

"Forward."

The Qilin roared.

The Royal Army surged ahead like a tidal wave of steel.

And across the kingdom…

The first shadow of war had finally begun to fall.
