Morning sunlight poured over Long Ring Long Land, spilling across the calm water where the Elysian sat anchored. The crew had planned to rest one more day before sailing out, but peace never stayed long around them.

‎Kaya leaned on the railing, watching the sea sparkle. "It's too quiet," she said softly.

‎Robin closed her book. "You're starting to sound like Rael."

‎Vivi laughed under her breath. "That's not a bad thing."

‎They'd spent the last week training with him — drills that left them bruised, exhausted, but sharper. Rael's methods weren't gentle; he didn't believe in comfort. "The world won't give you time to breathe," he'd said once. "So learn to fight while you're catching your breath."

‎That morning, his words proved right.

‎A dark shape broke the line of the horizon — a ship, low and fast, moving straight toward them. The skull-and-sword flag left no room for doubt.

‎"Pirates," Robin said, voice steady but cold.

‎Kaya's hand went to the pouch at her belt, where a set of smoke bombs Rael had given her rested. "He's still in town."

‎Vivi's expression hardened. "Then we handle this ourselves."

‎The pirate ship cut through the shallows, its hull scraping against the sandy bank. Dozens of rough-looking men jumped down, grinning when they saw the three women waiting on the deck.

‎"Well, look at this," the leader sneered. "A ship without a captain. Lucky day for us."

‎Robin met his gaze without flinching. "You're welcome to test your luck."

‎The man laughed, waving his sword. "Boys, take the ship. Don't scratch the women."

‎That was the last order he managed before chaos erupted.

‎Vivi moved first — her whip cracked through the air, catching one pirate by the leg and yanking him off his feet. He hit the ground with a thud, gasping. Two more rushed her; she spun, using the momentum to sweep both aside with a single, fluid motion.

‎Kaya threw one of the smoke bombs at the same time. The deck filled with thick gray mist, blinding the pirates. She darted through it, striking with quick, precise blows — the same pressure-point technique Rael had drilled into her again and again. Two men went down clutching their throats, choking and stunned.

‎Robin stepped into the haze, calm as ever. Her hands flicked open the folded pages of her book — an old reflex, though she didn't need it to fight. When one pirate lunged from the smoke, she sidestepped and drove her knee into his stomach, knocking the air from his lungs.

‎"Keep them close," she called to Kaya and Vivi. "Don't let them spread out."

‎Vivi's whip lashed again, wrapping around a sword. She pulled sharply, sending it clattering across the deck. Kaya lunged in to finish the job, disarming the man with a kick and knocking him into the rail.

‎Within minutes, the smoke cleared — and half the pirates were on the ground, groaning. The rest hesitated, staring at the trio with new wariness.

‎The leader snarled. "You think you can—"

‎Something flicked past his face — another smoke bomb, landing right at his feet. It burst with a hiss, and before he could react, Kaya was already behind him.

‎"Rael says never talk during a fight," she said quietly, and swept his legs from under him.

‎The pirate hit the deck hard, coughing. Vivi pressed the edge of her whip handle to his neck. "You can leave, or we can see how deep this water gets."

‎He looked at her, then at his men. None of them moved to help him.

‎"Fine," he spat, scrambling to his feet. "We're done here."

‎The pirates fled to their ship, limping and cursing. The Elysian rocked gently in their wake, the sound of the tide returning like a sigh.

‎Minutes later, Rael arrived from the path leading to the village. He stopped at the sight of the unconscious men scattered across the shore.

‎"…I was gone for one hour," he said slowly.

‎Robin smirked. "You should leave more often."

‎Kaya grinned, brushing a lock of hair from her face. "They thought we were easy targets."

‎"They were wrong," Vivi added, coiling her whip.

‎Rael glanced around the deck — the scorch marks, the smoke still drifting in the air, the bruised but steady stances of the three women. His lips curved into a faint smile.

‎"You remembered the drills."

‎Kaya gave a tired laugh. "You didn't really give us a choice."

‎Rael chuckled quietly. "Good. That means they worked."

‎He looked toward the horizon where the pirate ship was shrinking into the mist. "Pack up. We're leaving at noon. There'll be more of them after this."

‎Robin folded her arms. "You sound almost proud."

‎Rael's smile faded into something quieter, more thoughtful. "I am. But don't let pride dull your edge."

‎Vivi nodded. "We won't."

‎As the sun climbed higher, the crew began preparing to sail again. The Elysian creaked softly, waves brushing its sides like applause.

‎Rael stood at the bow, eyes fixed ahead — but behind him, the sound of laughter returned, light and real.

‎This time, it wasn't the laughter of
