Chapter 37 - Action

Anderson woke up. It had been another month. The day before the healers cleared him for hunts. Half a month ago he was able to train and spar. Now he could go on hunts with others.

Cast had set him up with a group who were planning a easier hunt. He need to be ready early, so on one was around as he walked around. Heading to the mess hall he saw only a few people.

Two groups of people were in the mess hall. He was able to meet a lot of people in the pass month. Though he still wasn't able to meet everyone. They two groups made up Zarria's team and Hamon's team. Anderson walked over to Hamon's team.

This was the team he was going to join. He sat down in one of the empty seats at the round table.

"Well look who finally arrived." The person sitting next to him said. The man had a short beard and long brown hair. This was Klark. He had the ability to draw the focus of nightmare creatures.

"Anderson, its good to see you made it." Hamon said realizing Anderson had arrived. Hamon was on the older side of the Sleepers, being one of the first Sleepers to arrive. He was a tall man, although he was skinny it did not mean he lacked strength. "You ready over the file I sent to your room, right?"

"I did. We are going to hunt an Awakened Devil who has recently made its home close to the compound."

Flashback

"The hell. I thought Cast said I am going to join an easier hunt. Why am I joining a hunt for an Awakened Devil." Anderson walked out of his room and found someone.

"Hey can I ask a question?"

"Sure." The man said.

"What is the easiest hunt you have heard about recently?"

"Oh I think it was a Fallen Beast. There haven't been many hunts for Awakened Devil and below recently so the Fallen Beast that was hunted last weak is probably the easiest."

Anderson went back to his room.

"Holy shit this place is more dangerous than I thought. Like what do them mean a Fallen Beast is the easiest hunt recently.

What did they do, hunt all the awakened creatures?" He said rhetorically.

Only he was right. In the twenty years here they managed to hunt almost all of the Awakened Nightmare Creatures that weren't Tyrants.

End of Flashback

That news just about sent Anderson into a coma. It was unheard of for a group of Sleepers to hunt so many Awakened Nightmare Creatures. Let alone wipe them from an area as large as the Night Clock's city.

Anderson was contemplating the hunt for the entirety of his breakfast. Unlike the rest who were chatting casually.

'They're acting as if hunting an Awakened Devil was child's play. Actually compared to what I have heard it might as well be. Just before I arrived they managed to hunt a Fallen Tyrant. Most Awakened could do that, but a group of Sleepers did.'

His chain of thought was broken by Hamon's group starting to get up. They were preparing to leave. Getting up Anderson followed.

They reached the east gate of the compound, when they started to summon their memories.

"Anderson. You learned the hand signs right?" Hamon asked.

"I did, they weren't too complicated."

"Good. We won't be talking after we exit the compound."

"Why is that."

"This exit is the closest to our destination, but it is also one of the more dangerous ones. Preferably I don't want to have to fight a Fallen Nightmare Creature today."

With that they were ready. Anderson had summoned [Bloody Fur Coat], [Climbing Claws],[Flagbearer's Halberd], [Growing Heart], and [Captain's Pipe].

He used the Halberd's enchant to put the Growing Heart charm in its charm slot. He would have used the Pipe for this, but the pipe wasn't a charm even though it acted like one.

On top of that he had found out the smoke from the pipe was toxic to others. That was a funny day for Anderson. Seeing all the seasoned Sleepers flee. They weren't even mad, most of them were glad it wasn't a Nightmare Creature attack. Though Anderson was curious why he could breath it without experiencing that same affect.

With everyone ready they headed out. This was Anderson's first time leaving the compound since arriving. As the gate opened the world expanded. The city was in ruin, or at least something like ruin. The buildings were tall, standing strong with their age. Though some buildings were missing half of their structure, yet they still stood. It was odd. Some buildings were floating in the air while others had collapsed. It was the strangest of sights. It lacked the normal logic Anderson was used to.

The outskirts were in bad shape with buildings on the verge of collapse with some actually collapsing. Yet the city here was worse and at the same time better. It hurt his brain thinking.

For most of the travel they moved on the low ground. There were obvious paths that had signs of travel. They moved along these paths. Anderson was still looking at the chaos that was the city when the group stopped.

Anderson seeing this almost ran into Klark. Only barely managing to stop himself from slamming into the big guy.

They had arrived. In front of them was a crater. It was much to large to be natural. Looking inside he saw their target.

It was a giant Nightmare Creature. It was easily three times the height of Anderson. It had one eye and was green. In an instant a creature came to Anderson's mind.

'Cyclops'

It looked almost exactly like the stories described. In the academy he read a story called the odyssey. The man character at one point had to escape a cyclops. That was the only reason he knew of such a creature. Now he was going to have to fight such a creature. Wasn't it ironic. He would have to fight one of the creatures to eventually go home, just like Odysseus. Even if it was in a different situation.
