"..."
Seeing the new skill, he appraised it…
{Abnormal Condition Resistance:
Enables the user to resist types of conditions such as corrosion, poison, paralysis, petrification, etc., under a certain threshold to be negligible.}
Kanon was completely speechless…
Doesn't this skill seem a bit too overpowered? What level was that monster? Defeating it made him instantly reach level 100, with each of his stats at 1000.
Kanon felt a bit overwhelmed by all of this. Now that he thinks about it, aren't all of his skills broken, too?
"..."
For now, he decided not to think about it.
Wait, doesn't this mean he'll be able to wield those weapons now? He was excited.
His gaze landed on the Absolute Spear on the ground; without giving a second thought, he grabbed it; this time, he was able to lift it easily.
With sparkling eyes, he spun the spear, carefully swung it, continued in a slashing motion, and ended with a thrust.
"Hahaha… this is awesome. I can finally wield these weapons properly," he was excited.
He then placed the spear back in the Item Box, pulled out the Omnisword, and started swinging the blade while mimicking the move he had seen Beryl perform.
While performing those motions, the blue screen popped up again.
{True Martial Art Level 1 ⇒ True Martial Art Level 2}
Kanon stared at the screen. "My 'True Martial Art skill' levelled up. Nice."
Even more motivated by seeing the screen, I started practising and swinging through the motions.
Feeling hungry after a while, he stored the sword back in the item box. Then he remembered that he hadn't checked the spot where the bear monster had died.
There, he found a bear's hide, a yellowish-brown stone the size of an adult's fist, and a large pile of meat.
"So, there is an item drop system in this world." Pretty convenient, Kanon thought as he prepared to appraise the items.
{Hide of the Lightning Bear:
Lightning Bear is a unique monster evolved from the devil bear. The hide has high lightning resistance and a minor impact resistance effect.
Note: It is recommended to use hide as a material and make it into full-body equipment.
Magic Stone (Rank B):
A special ore that can be obtained from magical beasts. The ranks are, in ascending order: F, E, D, C, B, A, and S. The higher the rank, the more expensive a stone will be.
Lightning Bear Meat:
A super rare high-class ingredient said to enhance the lightning affinity of and increase the defence of the one who eats it.}
"..."
"Wow! The lightning bear meat is awesome. Just by eating it, it will increase my defence and lightning affinity."
Then there was this hide of the lightning bear. The description said it had lightning and impact resistance. He picks up the hide and sees that it is just way too big for him.
For now, he has no way of using this hide, so he decided to put it away in the item box.
That leaves the magic stone. He picked up the magic stone and stared at it.
"Hmmm… so what is this thing used for?" He examined the stone from every angle.
Based on what he knows about the mana stones from the anime and manga, they are mainly used as a power source to operate magical artifacts and some other things.
"Hmm?" Now that he thinks about it, in this house, there are so many magical items, but he didn't see a single magic stone.
"Maybe the sage is so powerful that he doesn't need any external source of mana." Kanon began to see the sage as one of those overpowered characters he had seen in anime who can do everything on their own.
"Yeah, that should be it." With that thought, he put the magic stone and the pile of meat in the item box.
Kanon then went back to the farm, picked up the veggies again, and headed to the kitchen. The kitchen was, unsurprisingly, like a modern kitchen. Hell, it was better than the one at his house, with modern appliances. There is a stove, a sink, a freezer, and proper shelves with spices and modern kitchen utensils.
Seeing those modern appliances, he began to think that this world might not be the Medieval world he had previously thought.
He then began to open the drawers and looked for a knife to cut the vegetables, and soon he found it in the third drawer.
Like everything else, the knife's quality is excellent. He then washes the vegetables and cuts them into small, bite-sized pieces.
After that, he tried to take some spices, but he was too short to reach the shelves.
"..."
"Damn it." He then looked around and found a stool.
He then gathered the necessary spices and made a garam masala to prepare an Indian-style vegetable curry. While doing so, he also cooked some rice.
Now everything was ready; he took the first bite.
"..."
Kanon, without saying anything, ate as tears started to well out.
The taste was not exactly the same, but it was close enough to how his mother used to make it. He used to help his mother in the kitchen and had seen her cook hundreds of times, so he was very familiar with the recipes.
"And here I thought I was over it." He slumped in the chair.
"I guess this is what I'm fearing. A family."
Trauma of losing a family—I never thought I would have this.
He started to eat again, and before he knew it, he had finished the whole pot of curry.
"Hah…" with a sigh, I wash the utensils and place them back in their place.
The Yuki family—they are kind people. From the start, they have shown me nothing but kindness. I even began to think of Mikan as my own sister. As for uncle and aunt, I don't see them as my parents yet, but perhaps in the future.
Then there was Beryl's offer; from a strategic point of view, having access to another world made choosing Beryl more advantageous. He could train in the morning and then slip out to the other world afterwards.
Beryl himself seemed kind, but Kanon had noticed the calculating look in Beryl's eyes, which made him a little less appealing.
Considering all the memories from this month, the decisions become clear.
"I think I know what my decision will be."
"Transfer"
Back in the living room, I made the door reappear and, with a sigh, went back to the other side.
"Can't always run away from these problems," he says as he walks back to his house.
It was about 3:19 pm. The association members should arrive before dark.
After a while, a man and a woman in office attire arrived and began questioning me about my situation. I answered as much as I knew, and then they asked where I was currently eating and about some other things. I replied that it was the Yuki family who took care of me. They noted down all the information and left, saying they would return the next day. The whole investigation lasted about 2 hours.
After they left, I went directly to Yuki's household.
"Aunt Ringo, could I have a moment? Also, could you call Uncle as well?" I requested it formally.
Ringo, noticing Kanon's serious manner, nods. "Give me a second."
Back in the room.
Kanon, taking a deep breath, spoke, "I have decided; would you please take me in and make me part of the family?"
I bowed my head and remained silent.
"..."
For a few seconds, no one said anything.
Kanon knew they would accept him. But this silence made him nervous.
"Kanon, lift your head; from my perspective, you are already part of our family," Saibai said with a smile.
"That's right, we had already accepted you." Ringo got up and hugged Kanon, smiling.
"Isn't that right, Mikan?" she called out
I looked back and saw Mikan standing near the sliding door.
"Mikan, I…" I tried to say.
"Stupid, what took you so long?" Mikan glared.
"I just needed some time to think," I explained.
Mikan, ignoring my explanation, huffed and turned her head.
Ringo observes our interaction with amusement and interjects, "Oh my, I wonder who has been worried this whole time," she says in a teasing tone.
"M-Mom, please don't say that." Mikan, feeling exposed, blushed in panic and embarrassment.
"Well, now that this is settled, we need to make it official." Saibai got up.
"I am going to inform the association; they should have the paperwork ready by tomorrow."
"Now that's settled; let's have dinner," Ringo said with a smile.
"Before that, I have something else to ask," Kanon spoke up.
Everyone posed and looked at him with a question.
"I want to learn Swordsmanship."
