Chapter 1 - Experiment Gone Wrong

GOC NA Base 46

[Location, REDACTED]

Local Time: 15:43

Rift Transportation Project – Phase IV

It was a typical day in the GOC, well if you can called it that, since usually the GOC would be attacked by The Serpent Hands...usually.

Considering the Serpent Hand doesn't like an organisation where their idea of trying to freeing the anomalies is hated and the GOC is famous for having to killing Serpent Hands members and hunting Anomalies and be busy with the Liquadition of Anomalies who are constanty trying to destroy the world with a level 5 Engagement response.

But for this facility thankfully hasn't suffered an attack from any GOI or anomalies from the very first when it was constructed due to multiple reasons, this GOC Facility is one of the GOC newest facilities.

The facility can be considered a fortress in all but name, the facility is somewhat buried beneath sandstone and the desert of the American west, protected by different defense systems, from thaumaturgic defense system to a tangential electromagnetic scramblers.

The upper top or the opened part of NA Base 46 is unable to be seensatellite, and undetectable by typical sensors, through using with cognitohazard, and with a reality anchor on standby, it might as well have never existed.

NA base 46 Is a GOC experimental and test facility for the GOC's newest project that would revolutionise their way to deploy troops.

With the tech inspired by fiction.

---

Inside the Facility

the corridors of the facility buzzed by the sound of fluorescent lights and the occasional bark of intercoms calling for researchers to check on the calculations that is made,as well as the conditions of machines or engineering teams fixing or last minute prep before activation.

The PTOLEMY Division's logistics officers moved crates of important processor and machinery part, while the thaumologists scrawled thaumological equations across whiteboards and on laptops.

At the far end of the Primary Lab or the Test Bay, a 30 meter wide ring that gives a view on a futuristic Sci-Fi Like Tech, the ring was made of materials so advanced that it would give anybody seizure trying to say the materials name.

The atmosphere of the test bay was filled with unstable energy and the feeling of something powerful about it.

The tech the facility was built for was an experimental transportation device, a device that can be understand by it's codename.

Project Beyonder.

A GOC Project that if works would be a game-changer for all major GOC operations, or a disaster waiting to happen if the project fails, due to the cost of it was very expensive. But a game changer nonetheless.

Observation Deck

"...Still think it's gonna explode?"

Commander Kyra Harlow leaned back on her chair, while holding a half-empty thermos in one hand.

Kyra was the commander for one of the strike team personnel station on guarding the facility, she's an elite operative under the PHYSICS Division, and currently she was doing nothing but watching blinking monitors, and drinking coffee all day,as well occasionally sleeping around with some of the personnel.

"I hope it does. At least that'd be exciting," groaned Agent Rahim, one of the Assessment operatives posted nearby.

"Two weeks. Two Damn weeks stuck here.

With my last assignment I tagged an anomaly in Istanbul. Now I'm logging portal stability readings like a glorified intern."

Behind them, a fae engineer with silver hair and too many piercings adjusted a capacitor bank. As she muttered something in Old Celtic, then kicked the panel and continuing to curse about the panel, soon it finally turned on,and she then put it into place .

But they're complaints was soon cut off by someone.

"You know... you two complain like you're not getting hazard pay to sit in an air-conditioned vault and not doing anything other than eating and watching YouTube videos or playing games all day, or fucking someone" said Dr. Sophie, a senior thaumologist and one of the heads for the project who barely looked up from her tablet. "You could be on another base, which NA-278 had half their staff stuck in the base last week in an accident."

"Bet they got to shoot something first," Kyra muttered.

Which Dr Sophie Just sighed.

---------

Mess Hall

---------

some PTOLEMY Division personnel were gathered near the mess, sipping coffee.

Among them was quiet woman who was listening to an elf and another fellow scientist discuss on the implications of the device.

"Assuming this works," the elf said, "we could launch entire units anywhere on earth or beyond that. With minimal amount of EVE and energy used compared to the current method in Camelot. "

"And what happens if suddenly the portal that it made because which during that time the GOC Interstellar Fleet was about to exit the portal ? " The male scientist arguing with the elf.

" I mean considering things aportation via thaumology is much safer in practice, due to the fact the GOC having make progress in it,since it would fully transfer all the object instantly compared to this, considering it would still take some amount of time, albeit while very minor like a few minutes,it would be still be horrifying if half of the GOC space fleet was suddenly destroyed " The human countered, eyes narrowed.

The Woman sighed. "Then.... That would really be a problem huh."

Lower Hangar – Physics Division Weapon Bay

---------------

Meanwhile currently the majority of the strike Team members that is at the base :

Strike Team 8647 codename : Blitzkrieg

Strike Team 5648 codename : Urban Hunters

Were loitered in the base's armory or sparring rooms. With the members currently having their armor cleaned, guns checked twice. But sadly they don't have nothing to do but wait.

...

"I'm FUCKING bored as fuck" said Mendez, one of the strike team members as he checked his gear for the sixth time, with an annoyed look.

One of the other members replied to that.

" Same, but hey atleast we got hazard pay."

"We get hazard pay all the time Deepshit."

But Mendez then just stared at the rift chamber display mounted above them.

Main Lab ( Above the test bay)

------------

Countdown: T-minus 3 minutes

Senior Engineer Lana Cho, head of aportation calibration, took a deep breath. "Power levels holding at 97.8%." She tapped a glowing rune on her console. "PTOLEMY, we're green."

A calm voice replied through the comms, "Copy. Begin phase-lock. We are to go."

From the far end of the control room, the director of the base.

Director Anton Reiss, a tall man with an interesting hair colour, watched everything unfold with a blank expression.

Director Reiss is by definition the manager of the Facility being the one proposing and supervising this project that is about to begin.

"We'll make history today," whispered the quartermaster beside him.

Reiss didn't answer. His eyes were locked on the Device, it was starting to hum now.

Meanwhile soon Reiss went to the Communication Panel, and pressed the intercom.

" I REPEAT ALL PERSONNEL PLEASE CLEAR THE AREA IN CASE OF ANY MISHAP THAT COULD HAPPENED DURING TEST RUN"

"I REPEAT ALL PERSONNEL PLEASE CLEAR THE AREA IN CASE OF ANY MISHAP DURING TEST RUN."

Meanwhile Reiss soon turned to Lana and said " Lana you may have the floor I'll be going back with Alisna to my office on something report to me for the final result."

" Yes sir, and i hope your business with Alisna is quickly finish Winked " Lana grinned.

Reiss just stared at the Lana and then said.

"Fuck you Lana." Since Lana and the others has been teasing him a lot recently, since they're suspicious of him dating Alisna, the lazy fae.

" Sorry but I'm already married Reiss and i still loves my husband very much," with her smirking saying that.

I should have seen that coming, and also damn since Alisna is also snickering. Reiss thought,as his partner was smiling at him.

He soon left with Alisna to go back to his office.

--------

Later ...

--------

Meanwhile after some final inspection Lana and her team begin the countdown.

Lana begin asking on the current condition of the device to her team.

"How are the conditions of the machine Kim ?" Lana looked at Kim.

" Nothing major Lana" as Kim checked her computer for any problems but overall her's are clear.

"Power supply Ben ?"

"95% and it's stable." He replied.

" How's the mainframe Sophie ? "

" Clear sister. They're all stable and good."

Lana sister, Sophie replied.

Lana then turns around to the security who's behind them.

" All the personnel have evacuated from the bay ?"

" Yes they all have, Ma'am. " The Security guard reported.

" Good let's start the device. "

Soon, one of Lana assistants activate a countdown, as sirens begin blaring, with the intercom being turned on as it can be heard around the facility.

{ALL GOC PERSONNEL PLEASE REMAIN ON STANDBY FOR ANY EMERGENCY DURING AN ACTIVATION OF THE EXPERIMENTAL TECHNOLOGY THAT COULD CREATE SOME PROBLEM WHICH MAY INCLUDE CREATING AN ANOMALY, DESTRUCTION OF THE FACILITY, LOCATION OF THE FACILITY BEING COMPROMISED. }

Meanwhile soon Lana said " Sophie turn on the Device."

" Okay !!! , let's do this in 3...2....1" Sophie begin countdown with her fingers over the button.

As she then proceeded to pressed the button.

Immediately the sound of the device turning on that could be heard, and it was loud.

To described the sound it was as if a jet engine being activated, it was super loud.

Meanwhile the cable for the device continues to power the powerful machine, with the Facility Power Generator a Gen VII Fusion Nuclear [REDACTED] Reactor has more than enough to power the device.

The Device begins activating, the outer ring of the device begins lighting up and the ring of the device fires a concentrated energy towards the middle of the ring, and soon a swirl begin forming and a portal/rift appears in the circle, everyone cheered including Sophie and Lana.

"Yes, ok now let's bring the drone to test to see if this work." Lana replied.

A small drone was then launched into the portal.

Meanwhile at GOC Base NE-18 in the UK, a portal opened up above the base the drone appeared above it after entering the portal, with the feed of the drone was being showed at the base.

The drone operator comment on the status.

"Dr Lana It Work!! I repeat It Work!!, the drone is flying above GOC Base NE-18"

Everyone was about to make another cheer, since the project was a success, after this they can try to test-.

But suddenly the base was shaking.

And then...

BOOM

A deafening crack split the air like the sky itself had been torn in half.

As a blinding white flash burst from the device, the energy blast off everywhere flooding the entire facility with searing light for a fraction of a second before engulfing everything in darkness.

...

...

The floor trembled, with cracks appearing, ceiling panels had crashed down, exposing some wire,as sparks hissed from rhe exposed wiring.

Somewhere, a klaxon tried to sound but choked out into static. Then came the screaming.

--------

Unknown Location

----------

In the control chamber, Lana was thrown against the console when the device exploded, her tablet clattering to the floor. While her assistants and sister was basically knocked out as if they were punched by Mike Tyson.

The strike personnel with Lana was among thr first to wake up with her looking around and realising what just happened.

"Shit!" gasped commander Kyra, pulling herself up from under a collapsed ceiling board that had fallen on top of her.

Her ears were ringing and bleeding.

With some amount of blood was also dripping down from a cut above her brow after the panel edge hit her.

"Is that normal for a successful portal activation ? " Ben groaned as he rolled over, coughing from the acrid smoke that now hung in the air.

...

" Of course not unless your definition of 'success' includes detonation," Lana snapped, she then grabbed her com unit and slamming the call button. "Command, this is Lana, reporting catastrophic event at base and-"

STATIC....

STATIC....

"Status ? Anyone ?"

STATIC....

LANA frowned, adjusted the signal to Director Reiss communicator "Director Reiss." Still nothing.

She looked up. "Why the hell aren't we getting through ?"

---------

Director's Office

---------

The emergency lighting flickered to life dim red and pulsing like a heartbeat.

Reiss face illuminated only by the cracked screen of his desk monitor. With Reiss just waking up after the unexpected blinding of light hitting him,and temporarily sent him to dreamland .

Same for Alisna who wad with him who, didn't expect what happened.

Reiss meanwhile saw his computer screen blaring red.

{COMMUNICATION LOST}

{COMMUNICATION LOST}

He pressed some buttons,to try to connect to the backup communication system.

But it was showing the same thing.

"No uplink,and relay."

He then tried direct line to Ganzir.

Nothing.

He then fallback to theencrypted relay to NA Base-23.

Still Nothing.

Then the line to Bastion.

"...Damn it all." He rubbed his temple and tried to open the channel to internal facility command, and activating the backup intercom.

"INTERNAL OVERRIDE. "

{Emergency broadcast, this is director Reiss. If anyone hearing this, we're experiencing an unexpected Fffacility blackout event confirmed}

{Cause is from the Device. Communication with high command and other Global network seem to be temporarily down or are a total failure. All non-combatant personnel are to remain in assigned emergency zones until we determine what the hell just happened.}

He paused, staring back at the message log, the message logs that used to spammed information was quiet and blank.

No incoming pings,no auto-responses from satellites or long-range beacons. Heck not even the Base's Radio antenna is capturing the annoying music that is being played.

No sign they were anywhere in the network grid. Seeing that only cause Reiss to think of one thing since he was still alive.

"Where the hell are we now?"

--------------

Mess Hall / Common Areas

---------------

The sudden shockwave and blast of energy shook and broke some of the plates, mugs, and half the personnel was sent to the ground, and knocking them out.

But soon all we're scrambling to their position.

As currently Quartermaster Elaine Voss was already up, pulling an engineer to her feet as personnel scrambled to recover. " Secure the Equipment, and generators. Now. Make sure it's not been compromised-"

"We haven't found any compromised" said a technician, squinting at his emp proof tablet, that is showing the conditions of the generators" thankfully there was no emp burst detected and no damage to most of our equipment. Overall for atmospheric equipment scanner and location equipment? They're...um..What The HELL...?"

He tapped again...and again. "These aren't desert readings what is this the atmospheric density's wrong. The pressure, the humidity... this isn't Arizona at all."

"Wiat what !?"

----------

GOC Facility Terminal 1 (Door for the facility)

----------

Weapons were already in hand.

Strike Team Blitzkrieg and Urban hunters personnel had switched from trying to understand what just happened to full alert mode to ready to face God in under a few minutes. As some other Physics division personnel was running with them.

"Check corridors, then perimeter. In pairs, make sure nothing lethal unless verified threat," barked Avery, already strapping on her gear.

"Define 'verified threat'," Mendez said under his breath, checking the charge on his pulse rifle.

But he got no response.

" Oh ok."Mendez said, seeing that no one is responding to him.

The bay doors soon opened behind them, as the corridor lights pulsed emergency red. No sign of a breach or any damages.

No signs of anomalies.

Just silence... that's felt very weird.

"Reiss says comms are out," said a comms officer jogging over, after fixing his comms. "External links are dead for some reason!!!"

Avery muttered, "....that is bad."

---------

External Perimeter Hatch – 20 minutes later

------

The outer doors were finally opened, after confirmation of the condition of the outside was confirm to be ok,due to the camera being damaged by the blast,so they were unable to see what happened on the outside.

With caution the two strike team and other Physics Personnel in full Whitesuit and blacksuit moved out,the team expected either a smoking or burning outside or the familiar normal desert sun.

But What they saw instead was a forest.

Tall green trees, with some mountains around them. As sound of bird chirping can be heard.

"what the fuck...?" One of them muttered.

"What the hell !?, this isn't the blistering and Annoyingly ugly desert of Arizona" another member replied.

Members of Strike Team Blitzkrieg soon fanned out checking things out,and making sure they aren't hallucinating or got hit by a congitohazard.

They weren't hallucinating or anything, they wre actually in a forest.

but then in the distance, a faint glimmer of what looked like a... shrine?

One of them saw.

"Wait what ?"

------------

Assembly Hall

------------

Local Time: 3 Hours After the Rift Event

The sound of conversation filled the room like a low storm.

Over a hundred personnel mainly of humans, fae, elves, sat or stood across the curved hall, lit only by backup lights and a few glowing sigils pinned to the walls.

Most had calmed down. Some hadn't.

PHYSICS members leaned against walls, arms crossed and alert, unused to standing idle this long, not to mention worriedness on the threats that might appear. Quartermaster from PTOLEMY was reading data on tablets.

With PSYCHE operatives tried to keep groups from spiraling into chaos.

At the front, standing atop a reinforced command platform, Director Anton Reiss raised a hand. His voice, though worn, cut through the crowd.

"QUIET DOWN EVERYONE."

Everyone soon stayed quiet.

"Thank you," Reiss replied.

"As of now we have confirmed that our facility has been displaced, not destroyed, not breached, but displaced." He let that sink in."It's clear the cause is from the device releasing a tremendous amount of energy."

" From what we understand Our Rift Transit Test triggered a mass-scale spatial transition. The caused of that remains unknown but are being currently searched.

But overall one thing's are clear were no longer on U.S. territory. And using drones we have discovered we are not within even a GOC jurisdiction. "

Hearing that everyone that hasn't learnt about it looks shock and many widened their eyes.

" In fact–" he paused, letting the silence fall heavy, "were not on earth anymore at least ours from observation."

Immediately everyone begin to talk.

More chaotic this time.

"Does that mean we're in a different dimension !?"

" Oh for the coalition, this is really bad."

" Fuck!!!"

Reiss soon turned to his right, nodding at a figure beside him: an elderly man in silver-rimmed glasses, adorned in a reinforced lab coat lined with ritual-thread. A senior thaumologist, one of the best that was at the facility

Dr. Lucien Merrow.

He stepped forward slowly, staff in one hand, datapad in the other.

"Foe information I've conducted an analysis of the thaumic fields surrounding the facility. including cross-referenced local leyline signatures, atmospheric EVE densities, and comparative spectral resonance."

He looked up from the datapad.

"From what i determine were currently in a region somewhat similar to areas in east asia, but the energy signature are somewhat still significantly different than the data on our world East Asia. Overall we're able to survive with the condition here with minimal problems."

The silence now was deafening.

" This world seems to also have a vastly different metaphysical structure. EVE exists here in abundance, but from what i could analysis the density of the EVE has a 1.2 density compared to our world, but overall the EVE here thankfully doesn't interfere with the usage of thaumology. Basically what I'm saying thaumology can be still use."

He then gestured to the holographic projection, which flickered on.

A 3D map of the local area, showing the wood, and mountains.

And then the EVE projection of the area.

A hand rose from the crowd Quartermaster Voss. "Is it possible for us to return?"

Lucien paused. "We don't know. The rift equipment theoretically was impossible to displace the entire base, not to mention the main goal of the device was to allow transit, and it shouldn't have even had the power to create a spatial transit for the entire base across dimensions.

A strike team operative muttered, "So what, we crash-landed into a dimension by accident."

Lucien nodded. "yes that's how to explained it"

The murmuring rose again.

Reiss then went on the podium. "Enough. Until further notice, we are in lockdown. Thaumic camouflage remains operational. No external forces have detected us. We are invisible to the locals whoever or whatever they are."

He glanced toward the PHYSICS and Psyche division leads.

"Strike teams, you'll be on rotating patrols outside the perimeter. No contact with locals unless cleared. Psyche Division prepare for cultural and linguistic analysis. I also want an assessment team formed and ready to scout that shrine and outside the area."

Reiss looked around the room one last time.

"Id like to remind you we are the personnel of the Global Occult Coalition. We have face far worse than being displaced across dimension,so i hope you all do your duty,as you promised."

The words echoed with cold finality.

---------

Director Reiss Office

---------

3 Hours, 46 Minutes After Rift Event

Director Reiss soon stood in the dim lit command hub, arms crossed, with hiseyes scanning a dozen translucent screens flickering with incomplete data.

The once-constant stream of updates from Ganzir,Bastion,Eurtec,Camelot, regional offices, or allied GOC bases were gone.

"Status report," he ordered.

A logistics officer, Quartermaster Alvarez, nodded and tapped through an interface. "Initial personnel accounting is underway. Current confirmed headcount: 117."

"Should be 120," Reiss said coldly.

"We're verifying, sir. Thankfully since there's no signs of breach or casualties, just unresponsive. Might've been knocked out still during the displacement event. PTOLEMY Division is also interviewing anyone reporting nausea, memory loss, or temporal dissonance."

Reiss turned to a nearby technician. "Communications?"

"Still no uplink to GOCNet, Director. Whatever dimension we're in, the standard GOC-relays aren't connecting. Thaumaturgic tether traces are gone. It's like... The base had been crippled, but only like a broken arm crippled, not disabled."

Reiss's jaw tightened.

"No contact with High Command ?"

The technician shook her head. "No confirmation from High Command, Council of 108, or any of the ten directors nor the Silicon Goddess. We even tried tracing residual command signatures to send a signal back to our dimensions,in hope for the goddess to detect it but nothing's pinging."

Reiss exhaled, then tapped his personal console. A thin red screen opened, encrypted, marked with "Spatial Displacement".

" Try anyway to contact back to our world"

"Yes, Director."

Another personnel approached, this one from PSYCHE: Delphi, an elf with a stern gaze and silver markings burned into her temple.

"Sir if we are isolated from our world, sir we need to begin preparing for long-term autonomy i suggest using the contingency that the base had prepared."

Reiss nodded. "Begin drafting internal doctrine for the current problem. Also use all possible mean to learn this world culture."

She nodded and left, cloak swishing behind her.

Reiss turned back to the command deck, which now displayed names and divisions.

UNGOC Personnel Numbers:

•PHYSICS Division (Strike & Assessment Teams): 40

•PTOLEMY Division (Logistics, Engineering): 45

•PSYCHE Division : 15

•PNEUMA Division : 20

Reiss soon tapped his comm.

"All members of Ptolemy division leads: prepare a deep inventory check of all supplies, armaments, and machines. I want also a full check on the device if possible to activate it again and teleport us back"

Meanwhile Alvarez returned with some news.

"Sir," Alvarez added, "We have the last three personnel located. They were in the lower maintenance corridor. No injuries, just disoriented. That brings us to 120."

Reiss grunted. "Finally, some good news."

But his gaze turned back to the black screen labeled "GOCNet Link 187 – [NO SIGNAL]".

Beneath it, a command logs kept flashing on repeat :

> Attempting contact with High Command…

> Attempting contact with DC Al Fine…

> Attempting contact with Eurtec

> Attempting contact with Babel

> Attempting contact with The Ten Directors

....

> Unknown

> Failed

> Signal not found.

> Retry? [Y/N]

He didn't press anything.

Instead, he muttered under his breath:

"Fuck I'm so going to get killed after this if we somehow returned."

_______

We'll now that the introduction is done, this one will be a unique take for my part. Since i want to explore the deeper darker side, and political parts,as well as the fact there's no human faction in DXD (while MI6,CIA knows about the supernatural and like wizards of oz, Grauzauberer, and etc there's no dedicated organisation to protecting humanity),so having a human organisation from a different universe would be interesting for DXD.

Also it might take sometime to make a single chapter because of schedule.
