"You may have a point," Aerion laughed softly, conceding the argument. Then, Ysolda excitedly filled him in on everything that had happened at the homestead while he was fighting for his life in the dark. She spoke passionately about the cheese negotiations, the arrival of wealthy merchants in fine carriages, the bustling activity around the estate, and how perfectly Sinmir had maintained the military discipline of the company.
As Aerion listened to her talk, a serene and quiet realization settled over him.
The things he had built in this world had not stopped simply because he had left. They had continued to grow.
That realization mattered to him more than he could easily express. His life in Skyrim was rapidly becoming vastly larger than his own personal power or his individual adventures. He wasn't just a wandering transmigrator hoarding artifacts and someone who schemed to become the hidden power in the shadow anymore.
He had people waiting for him when he returned. He had built a home from the ground up. He had established a thriving, lucrative business. He commanded a lethal mercenary organization. He had devoted students, fiercely loyal retainers, a herd of massive beasts, and heavy political responsibilities that shaped the fate of the province.
As they turned back toward the estate, Ysolda looked up at him, her green eyes searching his face.
"Are you planning to leave again soon?" Ysolda asked quietly, the hope that he would stay evident in her voice.
Aerion did not lie to her. He could not promise that he would remain home forever. He had received direct assignments from the Empire, he needed to report back to General Tullius, and the civil war was rapidly approaching a boiling point. There was still a tremendous amount of blood and politics waiting for him.
"Not immediately," Aerion promised softly, squeezing her hand. "For now, I intend to stay in Whiterun for several days."
They walked back toward the homestead together in comfortable silence as the sun lowered across the sprawling tundra, setting the horizon on fire.
Aerion had spent the last two weeks chasing ruins, gathering terrifying intelligence, fighting ancient monsters, and violently navigating the lethal politics of Skyrim.
But now, for the first time after his long journey, he was back home.
And as he looked at the warm, inviting lights of Tundra Homestead glowing against the encroaching twilight, Aerion realized that returning to these walls was beginning to feel significantly less like returning to a tactical base of operations... and entirely like coming home.
The late afternoon sun cast long, golden shadows across the Whiterun plains as Aerion and Ysolda walked hand in hand toward Tundra Homestead. The wind rustled through the tall tundra grass, a gentle contrast to the harsh, freezing gales of the northern holds.
Just before they reached the fortified stone walls of the estate, Aerion remembered a lingering logistical problem. He stopped, his armored boots crunching softly on the dirt road. Reaching into his leather satchel, he manipulated his dimensional storage and withdrew a heavy leather pouch, its contents clinking distinctively.
He pressed the pouch into Ysolda's hands.
"Two thousand septims," Aerion explained, holding her gaze. "I need you to purchase a supply of soul gems. I also intend to acquire a Staff of Frost for you. With the staff and the gems, you will be able to recharge the magical frost enchantment that keeps the cold storage cellar functioning on your own. That way, you will not have to wait for me or Eirik every time I am called away from Whiterun for several days."
Ysolda looked down at the heavy pouch, a bright, deeply pleased smile spreading across her face. The sheer practicality of the arrangement appealed perfectly to her merchant sensibilities.
"I can certainly do that, Aerion," Ysolda assured him, testing the weight of the gold. Her green eyes gleamed with anticipated negotiation. "In fact, I know exactly which caravan merchants are desperate to unload their surplus. I should be able to buy the required gems for considerably less than their ordinary asking price in the city."
Aerion smiled softly. Giving Ysolda money for a business expense was effectively giving a master merchant permission to wage war on the local economy. "I leave the haggling in your capable hands."
They resumed their walk, passing through the main gates of the homestead.
Before retiring for the evening, Aerion took the time to personally inspect the mammoth operation.
He stood near the reinforced wooden pens, observing a full round of cheese production. It was a delicate, highly coordinated process. Under the watchful eyes of the mercenaries, the massive female mammoths were milked. The fresh, incredibly thick milk was transported carefully in heavy wooden buckets to the preparation tables. There, Ysolda oversaw the exact measurements of moon sugar and other alchemical catalysts, mixing them thoroughly into the vats before the heavy liquid was prepared for fermentation.
Finally, the sealed wooden vats were carried down into the magically cooled cellar of the warehouse.
Aerion watched with a critical eye, paying close attention to the cleanliness of the buckets, the secure storage of the vats, the precise labeling on the wood, and the overall consistency of the batch.
Ysolda was visibly pleased that he was taking the commercial operation so seriously, rather than treating it as a distraction. Aerion, meanwhile, was already calculating exactly how much timber and stone they would need to expand the production line without sacrificing the artisanal quality that commanded such high prices.
With the cheese secured for the night, Aerion left the cellar and walked across the yard toward the newly constructed smithing area.
The heavy stone forge, the roaring smelter, and the solid iron anvil were finally in place, radiating a pleasant, dry heat against the cool evening air. As he looked at the setup, Aerion made a mental note, he still owed Adrianne Avenicci the remaining balance for the equipment and materials, and he needed to settle the debt soon.
Stacked neatly near the anvil were the crates of iron and steel ingots he had previously ordered.
Rather than letting the materials sit idle, Aerion decided to spend the rest of the evening actively improving his Smithing skill. He removed his heavy armor, leaving him in his tunic and trousers, and picked up a heavy forging hammer.
He started simple. He thrust several iron ingots into the glowing coals. Once they were cherry red, he pulled them out with the tongs and began hammering them into basic iron daggers.
At first, his strikes were purely functional. But as the hours passed, he fell into the hypnotic rhythm of the forge. The repetition did not bore him, it honed his focus. He moved from simple daggers to iron and steel swords, then forged the heavy heads of war axes and maces. He carefully shaped the flexible limbs of steel bows, and eventually moved on to the massive, grueling work of folding steel for two handed greatswords.
The sun slowly dragged itself across the sky, sinking below the horizon. The intense, blistering heat of the forge contrasted sharply with the rapidly cooling Whiterun air. Metal rang against metal in a steady, unbroken cadence. The heavy leather bellows roared, and the sharp, metallic smell of hot iron filled the yard.
Aerion became so entirely absorbed in the physical labor, watching the imperfections hammer out of the steel, that he completely failed to notice how late it had become.
"Planning to put Eorlund Gray-Mane out of a job?"
Aerion paused mid swing, lowering his hammer. Ysolda was standing near the edge of the forge's light, her arms crossed, an amused smile on her face.
"You have been at the anvil for hours, Aerion," she told him gently. "Are you intending to compete directly with Adrianne now?"
Aerion laughed, using a cloth to wipe the sweat from his forehead. "I have no intention of stealing anyone's profession. The purpose is entirely practical. The mercenaries require well forged weapons to maintain the perimeter, and there is no reason to spend our coin buying steel from outside merchants when I can produce useful armaments myself."
Ysolda stepped closer, inspecting the long row of finished weapons cooling on the wooden racks.
She picked up one of the earlier iron swords. "At first glance, I'd say these are merely average. Good enough for a city guard, perhaps."
She set it down and moved further down the rack, picking up one of the steel swords he had forged just an hour ago. Her eyes widened slightly in surprise. She ran a cautious thumb along the flat of the blade.
"But this..." Ysolda murmured, testing the balance of the hilt. "This is noticeably better. The blade is perfectly straight. The edges are remarkably clean, the weight is distributed well, and the crossguard is seamless." She looked up at him, genuinely impressed. "You learn fast."
Aerion chuckled, leaning the heavy hammer against the anvil. "Perhaps I will open a blacksmith shop of my own one day, if the mercenary business dries up."
"By the Divines, please don't," Ysolda teased, stepping into his space and resting a hand on his chest. "Adding another business to the list of things you already manage might actually kill you before the dragons do."
With the smithing session finally concluded, Aerion washed the soot from his hands and face, donned his armor, and saddled Revan.
He escorted Ysolda back toward Whiterun under the light of the moons. The ride was quiet, the silence comfortable and deeply personal after the long, productive day.
When they reached the main gates of the city, Aerion dismounted. They shared a warm, lingering embrace in the shadows of the stone walls.
"I will come to see you again tomorrow," Aerion promised softly.
Ysolda nodded, her eyes bright, and slipped through the heavy wooden gates, disappearing into the quiet streets of Whiterun.
Aerion turned Revan around and rode back to Tundra Homestead. He stabled the massive warhorse, offering the beast an apple before walking into the quiet mansion. He bypassed the sleeping quarters of his retainers and apprentices, entering his private room and locking the door behind him.
He sat on the edge of his bed and opened his System inventory.
It was an absolute mess. Between the dungeon dives, the bandit raids, and the various ruins, he had accumulated a massive, cluttered hoard of many items and equipments. It was time to purge.
With a series of mental commands, he began materializing the excess items, laying them out carefully across the floor and his desk. He kept the organization precise:
•Magical Tomes & Scrolls:
Reanimate Corpse Tome
Calm Spellbook
Scroll of Healing
Scroll of Fire Storm
Scroll of Summoning (Wolf)
3 Scrolls of Conjure Familiar
3 Scrolls of Magelight
•Weapons & Armor:
Glass Boots
Dwarven Sword
Dwarven Shield
Orcish Dagger
2 Elven Swords
•Staffs:
Staff of Lightning
Staff of Fireball
Golden Staff of Flames
•Jewelry & Valuables:
Gold Emerald Circlet
Iron Garnet Circlet
Iron Sapphire Circlet
3 Gold Necklaces
3 Iron Necklaces
4 Gold Bars
3 Flawless Sapphires
2 Amethysts
4 Garnets
1 Sapphire
1 Ruby
Mammoth Tusk
•Alchemical Ingredients & Potions:
Weak Potion of Paralysis
3 Glowing Mushrooms
4 Spider Eggs
7 Vampire Dust
The massive pile of objects successfully reduced Aerion's internal inventory weight by approximately 60 kilograms.
Aerion stared at the sheer volume of material covering almost every flat surface in his room. He let out a small, tired sigh, followed immediately by a quiet chuckle. He looked like a dragon sitting on a very disorganized hoard.
He set to work sorting everything into practical categories.
The spellbooks and the collection of scrolls were immediately stacked and placed neatly onto the wooden bookcases lining the wall of the mansion, available for the apprentices to study.
The Dwarven, Orcish, Elven, and Glass weapons and armor were grouped together in a heavy crate. He intended to hand them directly to Sinmir in the morning, allowing the Captain to distribute the high quality equipment among the most capable mercenaries.
The three staffs required more specific allocation. Aerion decided the Staff of Lightning would go to Eirik, providing the young battlemage with a reliable, heavy hitting offensive tool while he trained. The Staff of Fireball and the Golden Staff of Flames would be given to J'zargo, Onmund, and Brelyna to share among themselves until Aerion could acquire or enchant additional magical staffs for them.
The four gold bars were promptly placed back into his inventory, safely stored for future forging.
The remaining valuables, the circlets, gems, necklaces, and the mammoth tusk, were placed into heavy burlap sacks, destined for Belethor. Aerion briefly considered whether the glowing mushrooms, spider eggs, and vampire dust were worth keeping for his own future potion making, but decided his inventory was already too cluttered. The excess stock would be sold to Arcadia.
Once the sorting was complete, the sacks were tied off and set by the door, ready for the morning.
Very exhausted, Aerion finally unclasped his armor, crawled into bed, and fell into a deep, dreamless sleep.
The next morning, Aerion woke early with the rising sun. He joined the rest of the household in the main dining hall for breakfast. The atmosphere was lively and loud, the group enjoying thick cuts of roasted meat, fresh bread, and dark ale before starting the day's work.
After breakfast, Aerion equipped his heavy Nordic Carved Armor and stepped out into the crisp morning air.
He prepared to ride to Whiterun with a massive entourage: Lydia, Jenassa, Aeloria, Valdemar, Eisa, and the three apprentices. The group loaded the heavy sacks of saleable items onto the horses.
The short trip to the city felt incredibly lively. Traveling with such a large, capable group naturally fostered conversation. J'zargo and Onmund debated the mechanics of the destruction staffs they were about to receive, Eisa rode comfortably beside Jenassa, looking entirely at ease in her new role, and Valdemar traded quiet tactical observations with Aeloria.
They reached the Whiterun stables, paying the hostler to watch the horses, and walked through the main gates as a formidable, heavily armed column.
Their first objective was liquidating the loot.
Aerion led the group directly into Belethor's General Goods. The Breton merchant greeted them with his usual theatrical, slightly sleazy enthusiasm, his eyes immediately locking onto the heavy sacks.
Aerion stepped up to the counter and engaged his high Persuasion skill. He didn't use magic, he simply negotiated aggressively, his tone perfectly measured, effortlessly turning Belethor's own greed against him.
He dismantled the merchant's initial lowball offers on the flawless sapphires and the other jewels with cold logic, driving the prices steadily higher. Belethor winced and complained dramatically, but he was too eager to make a deal to turn away such high quality merchandise.
Leaving Belethor significantly poorer, the group walked to Arcadia's Cauldron.
Aerion kept the transactions strictly separated. He placed the vampire dust, spider eggs, glowing mushrooms, and the weak paralysis potion on the counter. Once again, his Persuasion skill commanded the room. Arcadia, normally stingy with her coin, found herself offering unusually favorable prices for the rare alchemical ingredients.
By the time both transactions were entirely complete, Aerion walked out of the shops having gained more than 8,000 septims in pure profit.
The group standing outside reacted with varying degrees of shock as Aerion casually slipped the massive pouch of gold into his satchel. The apprentices, in particular, exchanged bewildered glances. They were becoming increasingly, acutely aware that Aerion's sprawling businesses, his relentless adventuring, and his ruthless negotiation skills made him vastly wealthier than any ordinary mage in Skyrim.
"Return to the Bannered Mare and secure a table," Aerion instructed the group, adjusting his cloak. "I have another piece of business to handle alone. I will join you shortly."
Lydia nodded, leading the rest of the group up the street toward the tavern.
Aerion, however, changed direction immediately. He walked purposefully toward the smoking forge of Warmaiden's.
He needed to retrieve the massive cache of wealth he had previously stored in his private, modified storage chests during his earlier crafting sessions in the city.
He stood near the main road, watching carefully. Adrianne Avenicci was heavily occupied at the grinding stone, sharpening a broadsword, the screech of metal masking his footsteps. Ulfberth was inside the shop handling a customer. The guards on patrol were facing the gate.
Aerion engaged his Sneak skill.
Despite wearing heavy Nordic armor, his footfalls became completely silent. He perfectly timed his movements with the harsh, ringing strikes of Adrianne's hammer, slipping like a shadow into the less visible, narrow side area of Warmaiden's where he had tucked the modified chests out of sight.
He didn't draw a weapon or create any unnecessary danger. His goal was simply to retrieve what belonged to him without drawing a crowd.
He reached the five heavy wooden chests tucked against the stone wall.
Working quickly, Aerion opened each one, opening the lids and transferring the staggering contents directly into his dimensional inventory.
The combined chests contained an incredible 25,000 septims, the culmination of weeks of aggressive enchanting and smithing sales. He stored all of the money instantly.
Then, at the bottom of the list of the third chest, his hand immediately goes to pick one of the staffs. He picked and took out a pristine Staff of Frost. He held it up, deeply satisfied. This was exactly what he needed for Ysolda. With this staff, she could perfectly maintain the cold storage enchantment at the homestead.
After he finished with the chests, Aerion paused. A sudden, highly experimental curiosity gripped him.
He wondered if the System's inventory logic applied to the containers themselves.
He placed his gauntleted hand flat against the lid of the first modified wooden chest and mentally activated his inventory absorption ability.
The heavy iron bound chest instantly vanished into thin air.
It worked.
Aerion blinked behind his mask, immediately moving to the next chest. He placed his hand on it. It vanished.
One after another, in complete silence, all five heavy modified chests were seamlessly absorbed into his dimensional storage system.

Aerion stood perfectly still in the shadowed alley, genuine surprise washing over him.
He had not expected the System to recognize, let alone effortlessly store, large pieces of physical furniture so easily. He briefly considered the staggering logistical possibilities. If he could store these mod containers, then the heavy equipments and entire pieces of furnitures he wanted could be placed within his inventory, then the physical storage problems at Tundra Homestead, and on long expeditions, were about to become vastly easier to manage.
He pushed the thought aside, keeping the discovery grounded. He would test the full, potentially absurd implications of the mechanic later.
Aerion checked the alleyway around him. Adrianne was still focused on the grinding stone. Nobody had noticed the disappearance of the chests.
He adjusted his armor, smoothly hiding the Staff of Frost beneath his heavy cloak, and stepped back out into the bustling street, blending perfectly into the crowd.
As Aerion made his way up the stone steps toward the Bannered Mare, carrying 25,000 additional septims, a Staff of Frost, and five entire storage chests hidden invisibly on his person, a deep sense of satisfaction settled over him.
His meticulous, practical preparations were finally beginning to pay massive dividends. His smithing was improving. His businesses were rapidly expanding across the province. His household was growing into a fortress. His magical students were becoming a lethal vanguard. His political influence was spreading into the highest courts of Skyrim. And now, he had discovered yet another unexpected, reality bending use of his system. For Aerion, even an ordinary, mundane day of selling loot in Whiterun was rapidly becoming another opportunity to build something vastly larger.
