Chapter 388 - Chapter 388: The Accountability Conference

Tsunade finally let go of her anger.

What was there left to be mad about?

She herself was an inheritor of one of the Three Great Sage Lands. Now that she understood the whole situation, she could no longer hold a grudge.

Still, the situation in Konohagakure was far from good.

"That bastard Chizan, did you just say you fought with Hanzō?"

"Yeah, and that's exactly what I need to ask you—were you trying to get me killed?"

At first, Tsunade's words didn't sound like much. But the moment she said them, Gekko Chizan grew agitated. He took a quick step forward and started questioning her sharply.

"Tell me, that jutsu kunai I gave you—where is it?"

"Huh?"

Hearing his question, Tsunade froze for a second, then instinctively reached for the ninja pouch at her waist. But as her fingers brushed empty air—eh? Where was it?

Seeing this, Gekko Chizan spat in frustration and cursed under his breath.

"You lost it, didn't you?"

"Want me to help you remember where you dropped it?"

"At the camp! You actually left it back at our previous camp!"

"Do you even know how many people jumped me the moment I landed?!"

What misery!

Gekko Chizan felt utterly miserable. He wasn't afraid of unreliable teammates—he was afraid of teammates who would literally get him killed!

To throw away such an important jutsu kunai at their old base—if the base hadn't been overrun, it might have been fine. But as it was, their camp had been captured.

He had teleported straight into enemy arms! The only reason he wasn't dead was because of his own ability!

"Uh… maybe it fell off during the battle. I didn't even notice."

"Ah, no big deal, you're fine, aren't you?"

Tsunade's voice betrayed a bit of guilt. For a shinobi to lose even her weapon—and nearly drag her comrades down with her—was shameful enough that even Tsunade's thick skin couldn't quite save face.

Jiraiya and Minato both covered their faces in silence. They couldn't bear to look.

Minato even shot Gekko Chizan a look of sympathy. Poor guy—he could already imagine it: the moment Chizan used Flying Thunder God and appeared on the battlefield, enemies swarmed him from all directions.

And that wasn't even the worst part. Judging from the previous fight, even Hanzō had been there. Meaning Chizan had teleported right into the arms of the Demigod of Amegakure himself. Brutal.

"Hmph! No big deal, my ass!"

"That was Hanzō the Salamander—and a bunch of Iwagakure shinobi!"

"I was wondering why our base had fallen. The moment I saw Hanzō, I understood."

"That damned Ōnoki, that old bastard Tsuchikage—he actually pulled Hanzō into this!"

At this point, the war had indeed grown extremely complicated.

For Ōnoki to bring in Hanzō just to crush Konoha—that was quite a move.

Hearing this, Tsunade and the others fell silent.

Even when facing two tailed beasts earlier, they hadn't lost ground. After all, Gekko Chizan had pioneered an excellent method for fighting tailed beasts.

Of course, it only worked for people who could use the Flying Thunder God and had enough chakra.

Yes, they were looking at you, Namikaze Minato.

In the later battles, Minato had gone all out—his tactics against the two Jinchūriki were pure harassment.

If he wasn't sending the Four-Tails flying away, he was tossing the Five-Tails into a river. As long as he had chakra, he didn't even bother fighting—just teleported the beasts far, far away.

He had truly mastered Chizan's style.

"Hanzō's appearance caught us completely off guard."

"That poison gas from his giant salamander was even more troublesome than the Kamizuru clan's venom bees."

"Speaking of which, the Kamizuru clan is no longer a threat."

That made Gekko Chizan blink in surprise. What? The Kamizuru clan was finished? That didn't sound right—their venom bees had been quite formidable.

Tsunade then explained everything in detail.

"The Aburame clan analyzed the venom bees and managed to cultivate a breed of insects that developed toxin antibodies in a short time."

"They were deployed before our insect repellents ran out. The results were excellent—the venom bees' spread was successfully contained."

"Coupled with their prior losses in battle, the Kamizuru clan now has less than one-tenth of their original swarm. They're no longer a real threat to us."

So that was the story. Gekko Chizan couldn't help curling his lips.

The force of history was strong indeed. In the end, the Kamizuru clan still lost to the Aburame clan.

He had merely played a supporting role in that outcome.

Of course, he had no idea just how much hatred the Kamizuru clan now bore toward him.

First, he and Tsunade had led a night raid and destroyed a swarm of venom bees.

Then, during the great battle, massive Fire Release techniques wiped out even more.

Those bees had been created by their clan leader Yabachi using forbidden jutsu—and before they could even shine on the battlefield, Chizan had utterly wrecked them.

"Ah, the main problem was that Hanzō showed up too suddenly."

"That damned guy—after all these years, his strength hasn't diminished one bit."

"Even if Minato and I worked together, we couldn't gain the upper hand against him."

Jiraiya clenched his fist in frustration, clearly holding quite the grudge against Hanzō.

Minato sighed as well. Even the Twin Stars of Konoha had to admit—Hanzō truly lived up to his title as a demigod.

"Tch. It's just Hanzō, what's so scary about that?"

"Poison? So what? Next time, I'll deal with him myself."

Gekko Chizan spoke dismissively. He was someone who held grudges—and Hanzō had made a move against him. There was no way he wouldn't return the favor.

Behind him, the three Snake Princesses smiled faintly, floating gracefully and adding to his aura.

That sight made Tsunade overjoyed. Chizan's arrival had truly been a blessing in their desperate hour.

Years ago, it had taken Tsunade, Jiraiya, and Orochimaru together just to hold off Hanzō. Though Orochimaru wasn't here now, his disciple had clearly surpassed his master… in some ways, at least.

"Good. In that case, we have enough top-tier power to hold them off."

"But this isn't our final goal. We need to push them back into the Land of Grass."

The war had already reached the Land of Fire's borders—they had to drive Iwagakure back.

Suddenly, Gekko Chizan remembered something. His expression sharpened as he turned to Minato.

"Wait, hold on. The situation's already this bad—why hasn't anyone gone to cut off Kanabi Bridge?"

At that question, Minato froze awkwardly. Jiraiya, too, looked embarrassed.

Tsunade glared furiously at the teacher and student pair.

"Don't bring that up—it pisses me off!"

"Jiraiya, you bastard! This is all your fault!"

Oh? Gossip time!

Gekko Chizan and the three Snake Princesses' eyes instantly widened.

The three snakes moved in perfect sync, transforming into their serpent forms—one coiled around Chizan's head, the other two on his shoulders.

Man and serpents alike were ready for drama—all they needed now were some peanuts and melon seeds to snack on.

"Come on then, tell us what happened!"

"I'm waiting to hear it!"
