Volga, an elite High Born who commands catastrophic thunder, leads imperial forces to suppress a rebellion on the industrial moon Kaelus-9. Deep within the mines, Matriarch Vespera unites the slave cells and strikes back, sabotaging Aethelgard's atmospheric grid. The attack fails to break the empire, but it proves the Nulls can draw High Born blood.
Book 2: The Gene Siege
Vespera deploys a horrific retrovirus, Aethel's Fall, which causes High Born power to backfire and vaporize the user's nervous system. Volga is tasked with hunting Vespera alongside High Inquisitor Lyra, a ruthless telepath. Volga captures Corin, Vespera's chief scientist, who reveals the imperial secret: Nulls are the original human blueprint. Though shaken by the truth, Volga remains loyal to his empire, executing Corin and using the extracted data to build immunity tech for the High Born army.
Book 3: Shattered Spires
Vespera shifts to total terrorism, allying with alien syndicates to secure black-market planetary cracking tech. She detonates dirty bio-bombs across the cradle world of Sol-Prime, killing millions of High Born civilians and reducing golden citadels to ash. In response, High Inquisitor Lyra authorizes absolute war. The High Born stop capturing Nulls, initiating a galaxy-wide purge. Volga leads the vanguard, his thunder obliterating entire Null strongholds as his empathy hardens into ruthless imperial duty.
Book 4: The Extinction Engine
Cornered and desperate, Vespera unleashes automated bio-drones designed to wipe out all powered life across the sector. Volga tracks Vespera to her final hideout on the ruined surface of old Earth. In a violent showdown, Volga uses his raw lightning to incinerate her remaining elite guard and disable the extinction device. Rather than killing Vespera in the dirt, Volga brings her back to Aethelgard in chains, intent on using her to break the spirit of any remaining resistance across the cosmos.
Book 5: The Iron Reconciliation
The rebellion is crushed completely. High Born legions sweep the galaxy, rounding up every surviving insurgent cell and publicly executing every rebel combatant. The Nulls are forced back into absolute, inescapable servitude under even harsher bio-surveillance.
Vespera stands trial before the High Born Council, charged with grand terrorism and treason against the empire. She is condemned to death by orbital ejection. Stripped of her command, her body scarred and her rodentian face permanently altered by the empire's mandate, she walks the plank toward the airlock.
As the glass shield lowers and the void prepares to claim her, Vespera stares directly into the imperial broadcast feeds broadcasting to trillions of subjugated slaves. With her final breath, she rasps into the comms:
