Chapter 58: Sequence 7 - Knowledge Keeper (Detective)
Anderson only remembered that he had found some kid rather agreeable at first glance. He'd originally intended to test him, then sell him a dose of Hunter potion and recruit him into his self-assembled adventure team.
Who would've thought the kid was already a Beyonder of another pathway? There was nothing he could do about that.
"Why are you still here?"
Anderson asked with some confusion. He distinctly remembered telling the other party to leave earlier.
Enber looked at the man before him-the so-called strongest Hunter whose attitude had changed so drastically and felt no surprise at all.
A tool has been used. Of course the traces would be cleaned up.
"I just don't know whether his memory was stolen, or if he'd been hypnotized in advance.."
Considering that the one who acted was likely a White Tower Pathway demigod, Enber guessed it was probably a composite ability. Mysticism Mentors are always good at developing bizarre spells.
While his thoughts wandered, Enber didn't linger with Anderson and instead left the room directly.
After only a few steps, he spotted Aetis smoking in the corridor, clearly waiting in case something went wrong.
Seeing this, Enber felt really nice. No matter how sharp-tongued this second-generation
police officer was, he truly treated Enber as a friend.
Unfortunately, Aetis didn't know just how terrifying Anderson really was. He didn't understand that showing up like this could actually become a burden during an escape.
Xio was different. She knew Enber possessed the Sea Breeze Hat. Without her dragging him down, escaping over the ocean would actually be easier for Enber so she hadn't followed.
When Aetis saw Enber emerge safely, he relaxed and withdrew his hand from his holster, and casually pulled out another cigarette, offering it over.
The original owner of this body had indeed been a smoker. But Enber had quit after transmigrating but he accepted the cigarette anyway, merely holding it, and said, "Looks like you've grown quite a bit during your time at sea."
" I've learned the hard way. nearly lost my life a few times." Aetis was silent for a moment before giving a bitter smile. "On the ocean, without strength, all you can do is be cautious."
"Even with strength, you still need to be cautious." Enber shook his head, thinking of Miss Gwen, another runaway like Aetis.
She had brains, initiative, and a three-person combat team of Warrior, Hunter, and Sailor. Even so, due to insufficient preparation, she lost two reliable companions... and that Hunter characteristic had ended up in Enber's pocket.
Aetis took a drag from his cigarette, then seemed to steel himself. "Enber... you're a Beyonder, aren't you?"
"Why do you ask?"
Enber wasn't surprised that Aetis knew about Beyonders. Overseas, they were far less restrained than on the mainland; ordinary people were much more likely to witness the supernatural.
"I didn't understand before.." Aetis spoke slowly. "But after these days of adventuring, I realized something. Your teacher, the great detective isengard he always found clues when the police were completely stuck. That was never normal. And that ridiculously heavy carne of yours... thinking back now. it clearly wasn't ordinary either."
He listed things that once seemed normal before he had any exposure to the supernatural, then finally asked, "I want to become a Beyonder too. Do you have a way?"
Enber looked at him seriously.
"Do you really have the resolve? I once heard someone say: Beyonders are pitiful creatures, constantly fighting madness and danger. Even knowing that do you still want to become one?"
"I know.."
Aetis's emotions surged. "I've seen a Beyonder lose control! My very first companion died at that monster's hands!"
He took several hard drags of his cigarette, forcing himself to calm down before continuing, "Sorry, I'm not targeting you. But before they died, they entrusted those naive dreams to me... So no matter what, I have to carry their dreams and become the most famous adventurer across the Five Seas! I'll find those legendary treasures and make a name for myself."
"So you think strength is indispensable and that becoming a Beyonder is the only way?" Enber sighed softly, then asked, "Carrying other people's dreams... isn't that exhausting?"
"That was my original dream too!"
Aetis replied firmly. "And Kyle gave me food and shelter when I was at my lowest. Sam saved me when I was in danger. Dana made me understand what it means to be a man...."
His voice gradually lowered as memories surfaced.
Hearing this, Enber knew there's no persuading him further. Whatever the reason, Aetis already had the resolve.
"I have something that can let you become a Beyonder directly. It's worth 400 pounds." Enber spoke plainly.
"You understand I can't just give it to you right." Since that Hunter characteristic would eventually be sold anyway, he might as well sell it cheaply to a friend. At least he wouldn't inflate the price.
400 pounds Aetis hesitated, then asked, "Is it the kind that immediately boosts combat power?"
"Yes"
Enber nodded.
"It'll turn you into a Hunter, Your physical abilities will improve across the board-far beyond normal humans."
"Then hold onto it for me for a while."
Aetis clenched his teeth. "Once we reach Enmatt Harbor, I'll figure something out."
He didn't try to bargain, clearly thinking the price was fair.
Four hundred pounds isn't a small sum for a runaway... Looks like he still has some connections in Enmatt Harbor.
Enber didn't pry. All he needed was the money.
After chatting a bit more, Enber said goodbye and retumed to his cabin.
Just as Aetis was about to head back to his employer,
Anderson appeared out of nowhere, blocking his path, grinning.
"Young man, let's have a talk too. I think the way you speak has real Hunter flavor!"
Back in his cabin, Enber first adjusted his emotions, then sealed the room with a spiritual wall before taking out various containers and pre-prepared potion auxiliary materials.
He had already anticipated that the potion might digest at any moment before boarding, so everything had been prepared in advance.
Following the sequence of auxiliary first, main ingredient later, he added the materials one by one Into the beaker When the giant dragon-eyed python's eyeball, and the golden leaf of the Tree of Wisdom given by his teacher were added
*tisss*
Amid a teeth-grinding sound, a pale blue mist
suddenly surged upward, only to be forcibly dragged back into the beaker by an invisible force.
Once everything settled, Enber quickly stirred the liquid until it became uniform.
It now displayed an extremely peculiar appearance.
"No matter which angle I look from... it feels like I'm seeing an eye full of scrutiny."
This was the Knowledge Keeper's potion.
Enber opened the Pure White Eye, performed a brief analysis, and confirmed it's quality. He then calmed his inner agitation through meditation, letting all emotions temporarily distance themselves.
Only then did he raise the glass beaker, tilt his head back, and drink the potion.
Gulp.
The icy liquid slid down his throat, bubbles constantly bursting along the way.
As Enber endured the stimulation, a massive torrent of information suddenly flooded his mind, transforming into wave after wave that relentlessly scoured his brain, Veins bulged on his forehead. It felt as if his skull were about to split apart!
Fortunately, he'd already experienced something similar when analyzing the gray fog with the Pure White Eye. Compared to that, this was far less dangerous.
He quickly regained control, consciously restraining his thoughts, shaping visualizations, and gradually entering a meditative state.
After an unknown amount of time, his vision returned along with an intense itch all over his body.
Enber rolled up his sleeves and saw countless thin, line-like openings on his arms. As the potion's overflow stabilized, those lines slowly vanished.
"These lines... they feel like eye slits."
"If I were to lose control... would my whole body be covered in eyes?"
"I only advanced after completely digesting Sequence 8, and there's still this level of residual impact... For those who rely on time alone, this threshold must be even harder to cross. No wonder my teacher spent over a decade before.."
With a silent sigh, Enber flexed his arms-now clearly stronger and felt a surge of excitement.
"I've finally become a Knowledge Keeper."
"In this era, Sequence 7 marks the entry into the mid-sequence."
"It means Beyonders finally move beyond merely being better than ordinary people in a few aspects-and begin to wield truly diverse supernatural abilities"
"And with the Pure White Eye..."
"I'll be even stronger."
