Chapter 56 - Chapter 56

"Now for the final topic of this meeting."

Mace Windu read the datapad once more and sighed, looking up at the two young women. Then he rubbed his aching bald head and asked, "Padawan Daesha, I hope you understand the seriousness of this situation."

"Yes… Master Windu… I, I'm sorry."

"Calm your emotions, Daesha." Kikha placed her hand on that shaking right shoulder, causing the girl to quickly relax a lot.

"I'm also responsible for this situation."

"You're both at fault here." Mace stared at them with a stern expression, "Your own written accounts are far too graphic and 'detailed' to talk about in a Jedi Council Meeting. So I'll just get straight to the point. You both understand what you've done. And now it's time to deal with the aftermath."

"Yes…" Daesha blushed a bit and looked at the few Masters who still had no idea what was going on, "I'm pregnant."

*Gasp~!* Everyone stared or glared at Mundi, who had the absolute least to say in this matter.

"What's wrong? I'm not judging, I'm just genuinely surprised."

"Unlike 'you', Daesha has never asked for or received permission to marry or start a family." Mace Windu explained to the scared 'little girl', "The general rule is that if the child is Force Sensitive, they can be raised as a Jedi in the Temple, but you must not have too much contact with them. At least nothing beyond a normal relationship between Jedi. If the child is not Force Sensitive, they can be placed up for adoption or given to the father to raise. Does he know?"

"No… I don't think so. I haven't spoken to him since we returned to the Temple."

"You have nearly a year to decide." Mace stared into those watery green eyes and continued to speak as sternly as he could, "The Jedi are not just a religious sect. We are the guardians of civilization. Our duties are often extremely dangerous and trying. Many Knights break under that pressure, a Padawan leaving the Order to raise their child is not some new or strange event. It's just something that happens."

"Daesha, no matter what you decide, I will take responsibility as your Master." Kikha smiled, "From the moment the Force guided me to you, I had a feeling that this day would come. Maybe I've always known that I wouldn't be a Jedi forever?"

"How is her situation any different than mine?" Master Mundi suddenly spoke up as he looked around the room, "It might be true that Twi'leks are not facing a population crisis and she also didn't receive permission beforehand, but the father is likely one of the last of his kind… Correct?"

"But the father isn't a Jedi." Adi Gallia shook her head covered in fleshy tendrils, "If he wants to repopulate his Species, it has nothing to do with the Jedi Order."

"Where 'is' the father now?" Mace asked, "Is he still on Coruscant?"

"Deus…" Kikha smiled wryly, "He said he needed to go 'home'."

"Home? Where's that? Tatooine?"

"Not exactly…"
