Rhydian;
I can't help but calculate the space now left between me and the orb.
It's not much, yet every cloaked bastard in this chamber seems to have decided they would rather die than let me cross it.
I drive my blade through the nearest one's chest and feel it pierce something that isn't quite flesh or bone. Whatever is beneath the cloak gives like wet cloth, then pulls against my blade like it's trying to suck it in. When I wrench my sword free, the creature doesn't fall. It stumbles, tilts its hooded head at me like I should have known better than to expect pain from it, and lunges again.
"Die already!" I groan as I kick it off the blade and swing again, harder, and this time the creature crumples. I take the few seconds before it recouples itself and continue towards the orb.
"There are too many of them!" I scream in annoyance, and Zephan's voice comes from behind me.
"Don't count them! It only makes it worse!"
