Selina stood dumbstruck, every ounce of her resolve to reject his idea shattering under his genuine, fragile expression. A flicker of sympathy finally cracked through her defence before she could stop it.
She blinked hard, shaking her head to break free from his unpredictable spell.
"But why should I even share a room with you?" Selina murmured, eyes averted from his as she nervously wrapped her arms across her chest, biting her bottom lip. "What if something goes wrong? It's not that I still want it to happen. I mean, the pregnancy hormones might..."
Zane understood her incomplete words; she wouldn't give him that rare, golden opportunity to touch her again.
"You don't owe me anything," he said gently. "I won't take advantage of how vulnerable you're feeling. If it becomes too much, just say the word and I'll go."
Selina sighed in resignation, berating herself hard in her head. "At this rate, you'll spike my blood pressure, Zane."
