At the same time.
Inside the house, the Azusagawa sisters were sitting in the living room, wondering when Yuki would arrive.
"Kaede, when did Big Brother Yuki say he was coming?"
Sitting at the edge of the sofa, Mahiru Azusagawa turned on the TV. Though her gaze seemed fixed on the screen, her eyes kept sneaking glances at Kaede beside her. A look of inquiry on her face, she asked the question.
"You've asked that almost ten times now, Mahiru!" Kaede's eyes shifted from her phone screen. She looked up slowly, a hint of exasperation on her face as she responded.
"And my answer is still the same: Big Brother Yuki said he'd come in the morning."
"Alright."
Hearing Kaede's words, Mahiru's expression showed a flicker of awkwardness as she softly replied.
Meanwhile, the sisters' parents were seated at the dining table near the sofa.
They, too, were contemplating how to receive this tutor they'd never met.
Although they had a general idea about him from what Kaede and Mahiru had said, the parents were still a bit concerned. After all, the other party was only a student one grade above their daughters.
His actual teaching ability was still an unknown quantity. Therefore, they felt a proper evaluation was necessary.
Today's invitation was naturally to have Yuki give the sisters a trial lesson. That way, they could observe firsthand whether he was capable of handling the tutoring job.
Just then, the sudden ring of the doorbell shattered the quiet in the Azusagawa living room.
Ding-dong—!
The first to react were Mahiru and Kaede.
They instantly turned their heads, their eyes meeting, and they could see the shared delight in each other's gaze.
The message passing between them was clear: Big Brother Yuki is here!
Immediately, they jumped up from the sofa, scrambling to dash out of the living room.
"Kaede! Wait for me! Why are you in such a hurry?!"
Kaede was a step faster than Mahiru and soon reached the front door.
She placed her hand on the doorknob, her heart thumping with nervous excitement.
Haaaah... whoosh—!
Kaede took a deep breath and then slowly turned the doorknob.
Click!
The moment the lock disengaged, accompanied by a crisp metallic sound, the door slowly swung open.
Mahiru had caught up by then, standing beside Kaede.
As the door opened fully, the sisters' eyes met the familiar sight of that tall, great figure and the guy with the breathtakingly handsome face, now smiling at them.
"I'm here, Kaede, Mahiru," Yuki greeted them warmly with a gentle smile.
"Mhm! Please come in, Big Brother Yuki!"
Just like always, upon seeing Yuki, a hint of bashful shyness colored both Kaede's and Mahiru's faces. They quickly stepped aside, inviting him in.
Yuki nodded and stepped inside.
Only after Yuki entered did the sisters notice the silver-white supercar parked outside their home.
"Huh? Is that car outside yours, Big Brother Yuki?" Mahiru asked, curiosity getting the better of her.
"Yep," Yuki nodded, readily admitting the car was his.
Hearing his confirmation, the sisters' faces lit up with surprise and excitement.
"That's so cool! That car looks super expensive!"
"Of course it is! It's a supercar!"
The two of them immediately started chattering excitedly about Yuki's car.
Yuki smiled and asked, "Interested in the car?"
His question made both sisters blush slightly with embarrassment.
"Well, a little!" Kaede admitted, her cheeks tinged pink, looking a bit sheepish.
Mahiru, feeling the same, added, "We've only ever seen these kinds of cars from a distance on the streets. We rarely get to see one up close like this."
"So, it does feel a bit mysterious to us!"
Hearing this, Yuki felt a touch of understanding.
That feeling was perfectly normal. Even if you weren't particularly interested in something or didn't know much about it, if you saw it often enough but could only observe from afar without ever touching it... over time, it was natural to develop curiosity about that thing.
Back on Earth, hadn't Yuki been the same?
Unable to afford supercars costing tens of millions, even knowing they weren't the most practical for daily use, seeing them often enough would inevitably spark a desire to learn more about them.
That was exactly the mental state the Azusagawa sisters were in now.
"In that case, how about this?"
"I'll be tutoring you both in a moment. At the end of the session, I'll give a little quiz."
"Whoever scores the highest on the quiz, I'll reward her with a ride in my car around Tokyo. How does that sound?"
Yuki proposed the idea to the sisters with a smile.
This way, he could motivate them to study hard while also satisfying their curiosity—a win-win.
Hearing this, the sisters' faces lit up with delight.
"Deal!" they chimed in unison.
Immediately, a fiery competitive spirit ignited in their eyes. The looks they exchanged were now brimming with rivalry.
Mahiru! The one sitting in Big Brother Yuki's passenger seat will be me!
Don't even think about it, Kaede! Your grades are definitely worse than mine!
It seemed like sparks were flying between their gazes, their silent declarations clearly communicated to each other.
Seeing the sisters so fired up, Yuki gave a slight, approving nod.
After changing into slippers in the entryway, Yuki followed the sisters to the living room.
The Azusagawa house wasn't very large. With the first floor housing the kitchen, living room, and one bedroom, the hallway was quite narrow, allowing only two people to walk side-by-side at most, and even then, it was a squeeze.
However, the living room itself felt relatively spacious once you entered.
There, Yuki met the sisters' parents.
He greeted them first, introducing himself briefly.
The Azusagawa parents' first impression of Yuki was naturally favorable. After all, with Yuki's looks, it was hard to find any fault with his appearance.
During their conversation, Yuki's elegant and poised demeanor further raised their opinion of him in their hearts.
With everything else being so impeccable, the only remaining question was his teaching ability.
While Yuki's outstanding temperament gave them a very good impression, that wasn't the most important thing. The most crucial aspect was still his teaching.
As Yuki chatted with the parents, Kaede and Mahiru were already growing impatient.
"Big Brother Yuki, when do we start?"
"Yeah, Big Brother Yuki, let's start the lesson already! We can use my room!"
"No! Mahiru, my room would be better! Your room is such a mess."
"My room is not messy at all! Your room is the messy one, Kaede!"
The sisters started arguing about where to hold the lesson, leaving their parents staring in astonishment.
They knew their daughters well. For them to be this proactive and eager to study... it was like the sun rising from the west.
After settling it with a game of rock-paper-scissors, they decided Mahiru's room would be the tutoring spot.
